Columbia House DVD Club Reviews

credit card charges
I have had the very same problems others have had with columbia house dvd club. I ended up canceling my credit card to stop their pre- authorized withdrawals after I specifically stated to them not to do it. If you are planning on doing business with them DON'T. It isn't worth all the headaches they put you through.

RIP OFF ARTISTS
Dealing with a company like the Columbia House dvd club has been hell in my life.Like many people i am on a budget. So getting charged $50.00 every month is a little annoying!!! I have cancelled my accounts, which there are three, four times in six months.Still nothing is done about the charges.I have been charged with my bank an overdraft fee three times, because i never know about the charges i am receiving until it is too late.I have filed a comsumer compaint, and have talked to a lawyer about how to get my money back.To this day i am still being charged!!! Customer service is awful, the people are rude, and you never get a straight answer.I will not give up with columbia house until i receive my money back! Avoid this company at all costs, or you too will be a victim of this god awful company!!!

Automatically Billing My Credit Card
What a scam...these people will automatically send you and charge you $30 for movies UNLESS you intentionally tell them you don't want them. They also tell me that I can't cancel my account unless I fulfill my contract by purchasing 3 DVDs in the next year. This website is sketchy. There is no contact phone number on the website, only an email address. And when I would email them, they would send me back emails that were completely IRRELEVANT to the questions I had asked. I finally got a hold of a customer service rep on the phone and, as a lot of people here have said, ran around in circles trying to talk to someone that would help me. I think their strategy is to make things as complicated as possible and hope that you'll just give up and pay the price. I asked the rep I was talking to to connect me with a superviser and she just said, "Sorry they're busy, I will take down your information and call you back later." So I said, "I actually don't believe you will call me back, I would prefer to be on hold" and it literally took 20 seconds for a supervisor to get on the phone. I talked to the supervisor in circles for about 20 minutes before he agreed to let me mail the movies back and get a full refend. DO NOT JOIN THIS WEBSITE, IT IS A SCAM!

My name is Roy Randall, my address is 15 Hart Street, Hornell, New York 14843. acct 50486716645. You have billed me for a dvd that i returned months ago. monsters vs aliens. i will not pay these charges and i have requested numerous times over the last year to cancel my account. Every dvd that you send me will be returned. If you chiose to ignore my request you will simply be wasting my time and your companies money by sending dvd movies to me... thank you

I am being biiled after I paid off contract.
I spoke to someone about my membership back 2007. Telling I were not satify with the quality of their DVD's. And I wanted to discontinue my membership with Columbia House DVD club. And I was told I had to pay off my membership and pay for balance of (3) movies. And I did. I thought that would be the last time I would from them. Now they have been senting out movies and I have been sending back. They stopping sending movies but now the billing continue to come. And unless they receive prompt payment, they will report my unsatisfactory account to a consumer reporting agency, which will keep this information in its files for up to seven years. How do I get these Hound dogs off my back.

Membership Cancellation
I have been a loyal customer of Columbia House for several years, with a large purchase history and impeccable payment record. On Wedenesday, June 24, 2009, I called the company's DVD customer service center to find out why I had stopped receiving their monthly E-mails. The first telephone rep I spoke with was unable to give me a clear answer, so I asked to speak to an actual manager, who was one of the rudest people I've ever dealt with. I don't recall whether she gave me her name, but she sounded African-American, and the call was somewhere between 2:30 and 3:00 p.m. PST. From here on, I shall refer to this customer service manager as the CSM.

The CSM explained to me that the reason for my discontinued E-mailings was that my account had been permanently closed. Shocked to learn this, I immediately asked why, to which she replied "It was a business decision." I said "What kind of business decision?", to which she said "That's all the information I can give you." I immediately asked why I was never notified of this in any way, to which she said in an abrasive, arrogant tone of voice: "We aren't authorized to tell you ANYTHING. We reserve the right to cancel a customer's membership any time we wish, and it's not our place to tell you why. If this answer is unacceptable to you, you will need to submit your complaint in writing." I was so disgusted at this point, that I ended the call right away, and let this woman know what I thought of her and Columbia House.

Who do these people think they are, treating customers this way? They just randomly spit them out, and then bully them when they kindly ask for an explanation? As far as I'm concerned, this kind of organization doesn't deserve to be in business, and I'll go to whatever measures I have to to let my voice be heard about this. I can only wonder how many other loyal, decent customers they've treated this way. Even if they have a valid reason to close a customer's account through no fault of their own, the least they can do is communicate it to them. If they can't accept this simple courtesy, then they're not qualified as business people, and it really disappoints me that my membership has to be ended on such a nasty note, because I really enjoyed being with them for so long.

I would like to be contacted regarding this matter as soon as possible. Thank you so much for your time and attention.

Avoid at all costs
I am soo over their bs..first I enter their club and they try to renege on their own agreement by trying to make me pay for my intro package and two advanced orders before I even received the intro package..I complained to the Attorney General and they were forced to send me my intro package..I paid and am now trying to get them to send me my first few orders so I can kiss their club bye bye..I placed two orders one twice coz they ignored the first order..then I requested a replacement be sent for a dvd title they no longer had that was suppose to be a part of my intro package...I placed a second order that would get me closer to fulfilling my obligation..they sent me my first order one item would count toward my obligation the other item would not..of course the item that did count was heavily damaged..my request for a replacement item is being ignored, by them, they removed the charge for my obligation item, so I'm now no longer one step closer to fulfilling my obligation...they sent me my replacement title plus the dvd set I bought from them does not count toward my obligation and the orders I have placed that would count are being totally ignored..they are trying to back me into a corner..I sent them one last email and gave them 3 days to ship all of my orders or I would be contacting the AG..COLUMBIA HOUSE IS A RIP OFF, AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

Fraudulent company
It would seem Columbia House has one set of rules for other customers and a different set for me..when I first joined they forced me to complain to the Attorney General because they refused to adhere to their own agreement...I won and they were forced to send me the rest of my intro package prior to my paying..they tried to force me to prepay for my intro package..I refused and the AG sided with me..now it seems they are bound and determined to make my membership a living hell...I placed my first order I was forced to reorder because they refused to ship out my first order..they finally did and the one set that would count as 1 toward my obligation arrived heavily damaged..I informed them of the damage I might add the shipping box was undamaged yet the cd case was smashed beyond repair and the discs were scratched, I believe this set was damaged prior to shipping and sent on purpose why else would the set be damaged, but the shipping box not be? I was sent two different emails the first said to "send it back" and the second said to "throw it away"..I find it funny I was sent a damaged set and of course it was the set that would count as my first obligation purchase..the cost was removed from my balance..I still owe for the rest of the order a mere $24.96...I placed more orders and was shocked when none of them were shipped..3 were not yet released when I placed my order..however one has since become available, but has not shipped..to their credit they did ship me a replacement title for one from my intro package that was no longer available..of course that one they cannot bill me for in any way so it does not count toward my obligation nor does the one title I was sent..get the picture? They are sending me titles that do NOT count toward my obligation, but holding out on sending the ones that do!! They ignore my email complaints that is until I start sending in complaints elsewhere!!I was shocked when I received a note saying until I pay off my balance a whole $24.96 I might add that is NOT past due nor was it past due when I placed my other orders..I spoke with a customer of theirs online who said he "placed orders totaling almost $300 BEFORE they sent him such a notice!!" It seems the rules are different for me then for other customers and if this is the way they want it to be then I will take my business and money elsewhere..I usually buy up to 5 dvds every two weeks, but if that's not good enough for them then they can kiss my money and my ass goodbye..I plan to send them a copy of this complaint and if the rest of my orders are not shipped to me including the preorders when available I will leave this club and they can shove their attitude, their dvds and my so called obligation up their asses!!

This club has been nothing, but a pain, they lie, change the rules around only do the right thing when forced to and get their revenge in a sneaky way..I wont let my nerves be shot by this companies actions..I will walk away and they will lose a lot of money!

double charges and charged for item not recieved
I had order a dvd thru a Columbia House web site which adververtised an intro package for $5.00 dollars. Then I would have two years to purchase an additional 6 selection at the regular rate which ran about $22.00. I had paid the intro charge of $5.oo on August 8th using my debit card. However I found out that when i used that same debit card at a merchant. I was declined. When I called my debit card provider as to what the problem was, I was told that there were two charges from Columbia House posted to my Account with in three second from each other thus causing the decline of my other purchase. I only authorized one purchase. My card holder services had that additional $5.oo charge reversed. Then I recieved a invoice for $124. dollars and some change and the reason stated that I had not fulfilled my contractual obligations. Also shortly after I started to recieve calls from a collection Company (unsure if it is in house) That I owe $124.00+ for stated above reasons. I explained what the situation was and that I dispute their claim. An after many subsequent calls from this collection agency I asked them to investigate the claim and to not call me any more and I refuse to pay for items I did not recieve.+
