Columbia House DVD Club Reviews

Bad service
I fell for this scam don't fall for it too! I was offered 7 dvds for .49 each plus shipping and a chance to get two advanced dvds one for $14.95 the other for $9.99..Columbia House is pulling a fast one with these offers..I ordered my 7 introductory dvds which I was told I would get first and if I decide to stay in the club then I would get my other dvds..so I took them up on the advanced dvd offers...what I got instead was headache and hassle from this sham outfit..had they kept their word I would have paid about $25 which I would have gladly paid immediately then be sent the two advanced orders which I would then pay on..instead what I received was both advanced orders and only 1 of my introductory dvds..and a bill for close to $50..NOT what I signed up for and I told them so..they then informed me they only send out a portion of the order and ask for prepayment..that info is conviently left out of all info I am sent prior to getting my order..when I informed them I would send my payment in full upon receipt of my promised introductory package they refused I then pointed out to them in their own emails they promised delivery of my 7 introductory dvds their response.."that email was misworded" more like I was mislead..I informed them I kept all of my proof even a copy of the agreement I followed when I joined their sham club..they informed me they would not send out my introductory package until I made a payment which takes away my choice of staying in the club or not..because they are asking for payment for the advanced orders as well..uh no not happening skippy! So then they offered to let me pay $25 for the introductory package first..so they want me to pay for the dvds I was told I would NOT have to pay for until I received them..again I said no..all I want is my 6 missing dvds and for them to honour their own agreement/terms..and still they refuse..so guess what now I'm shouting breach of contract which releases me from any obligation to this scam club btw thanks for the 3 free dvds..WARNING FOR ALL MOVIE LOVERS STEER CLEAR OF COLUMBIA HOUSE DVD CLUB! Their HUGE loss I buy around 9 or 10 movies a week..add that one up CHDC see how much you'll be losing! BTW they also charged me $2 more for each advanced dvd order I received! One was $14.95 they charged me $16.95 the other was $9.99 they charged me $11.99..

My name was used by a co-worker to establish an account with Columbia House DVD Club, and they refused to verify any personal information about me so they could correct the problem. They said they would close the account (IN MY NAME) and my credit would be ruined. PLEASE HELP!!!

Bait and switch fraud
I received a advert which stated buy 7 dvds for .49 each plus shipping which should have been about $25 in total..I ordered the following dvds at .49 each plus shipping...Single white female, the silence of the lambs, red dragon collectors edition, sibling rivalry, psycho collectors edition, father of the bride, and urban legends Bloody Mary..these were suppose to be sent in my introductory package per their own terms..I also placed two advanced orders..the first was Urban Legend the second was Blind Fury..what I received instead of my promised introductory package of 7 dvds I received "Silence Of The Lambs" one of my .49 dvds, Urban Legends priced at $16.95 and Blind Fury priced at $11.94, (they charged me more for my two advanced orders to top it off..$2 more for each title)..Columbia House pulled a bait and switch on me..instead of getting my welcome package of 7 dvds paying for that should I decide to join they sent me the two advanced orders (charged two dollars more for each dvd) I would have gotten had I decided to join and paid for..they sent me the advanced orders first along with a single dvd from my welcome package..they gave me no choice in whether I join the club or not..I opened that package thinking my welcome dvds were inside instead inside was two dvds I was suppose to get AFTER I made my decision about whether I was staying in the club or not..they took my choice away from me now they want me to pay not only for the two advanced dvds now, but also for my welcome dvds I never even received..I emailed them and received the same canned dumber then a box of rocks response both times..Columbia House pulled a bait and switch on me..they have lost ALL of my future business..I DID NOT receive my 7 dvds priced at .49 a piece plus shipping instead what I got was three dvds only one was from my welcome package plus a bill for the welcome package I never even received..I will pay what I owe, but I will NOT buy another thing from them..another thing that angers me two dvds I ordered Psycho collectors edition and Red Dragon aren't even listed on my invoice as being owed to me!

Legal Racket? Consumer BEWARE of their fraudulent business practices!
The worst experience ever! I am struggling to comprehend why this company is still in business. Their business practices are border-line fraudulent. Please, BEWARE. Don't purchase anything from this company, DO NOT give them your credit card info if you want to avoid long battles to refund unauthorized charges!
I've recently received their demand to pay them $75 of Due on Contract charge, since I failed to purchase 3 more DVDs. I don't even understand how the 2 years contract with 4 DVD's obligation became a year contract... Well, they sent a leaflet along with their threatening collection letter. This leaflet listed all the crappy movies in the world I could buy for their exorbitant prices in order to fulfill my so-called obligations. I wasn't going to purchase any of this crappy titles forced on me so I tried to get an access to my account on their site to peruse their full selection, when to my surprise I've discovered that they de-activated my account. Meaning I didn't have an access to the full selection on-line. The only titles available were the half-a-dollar movies qualifying for their membership. I immediately called the customer service number on the letter 1-800-262-2001 -- what a run-around. You can never reach a live person -- I pushed every option available to try to get a live person on the other end of the line. So after spending more than an hour on the phone I tried to contact their web-site. What a joke! I'v lost a count of e-mails I sent to their Customer Service. I've got an impression that I bunch of parrots was hammering away on the keyboard buttons or they simply have an E-mail robot, which selects the answer by identifying some key words. All my explanations were rebuffed by the demand to pay the money first and then they would send me the CERTIFICATES for the DVD' purchase. Listen to this irony! I don't have an access to their selection because they canceled my account. They force me to choose the titles that I don't want and don't need and then they offer certificates that I can't use since I don't have an access to the full selection without an account. Is this legal? Can somebody help me with an advise? I am going to file a complaint with FTC and Attorney General of Indiana and my State. I've sent a letter to Columbia House DVD Club headquarters regarding this situation. NO reply! Class action, anyone? I am in!

got movies-did not order
In Jan 2007, I was a victim of identity theft and Internet fraud. I received DVD's from Columbia House that I did not order. I got billing from them for the amount of $106.76, with threats of turning me over to a collection agency. This was recently, after over a year of hearing nothing from these people, and thinking this problem had been resolved. There were 41 other fraudulent charges against my account and all others were corrected. Before Christmas, I returned 9 DVD's to them, still sealed, along with a letter of explanation, their bill, and documentation of the fraud, as well as a copy of a complaint filed with the Internet Crime Complaint Center, all dated Jan 2007. Today, 31Dec 2008, I get another statement from them for the $106.76, and telling me that this account has been reported to a consumer reporting agency, with the further threat of referring the account to a national collection agency. How do I get these dogs off my back?? Like others of you, I can't get anyone to answer the phone, and the websites are no help, except maybe this one.

Unauthorized Membership
I recently became aware that someone had utalized my credit card to become a member of and order DVD from Columbia House DVD Club.
RE: Membership #50567782078. I am reporting this as fraud. Authorizing my credit card company to not accept further activity for products or services from Columbia House DVD Club. Also contacting the Legal Department for appropriate action in this regard. Any further unauthorized activity allowed on this account will be considered both willful neglance and accompliance in fraud.

wrong dvd, did'nt authorize payment
I did not order the dvd that was sent to me, "You don't mess with Zohan". I did not authorize money to be deducted from my account. I would have to be an idiot to pay $28.00 for a dvd that I've never heard of, nor authorize to be sent.
They can have the dvd back, and put the money back in my account
