NON PERFORMANCE OF DUTY
I have had two instances where I was the target of scammers and the subsequent illegitimate/disputed charges to my bank debit card. When I reported this to Commerce (my bank) they did very little to assist me and seemed to favor substantiating the charges in spite of the significant evidence I supplied to the contrary. One of these charges dealt with one of the Acai Berry "marketers" which is by now exposed to many as being involved in fraudulent charges. I even sent evidence that one government agency had declared the same charges in another state to be fraud and took the company to task. In spite of all that, Commerce eventually found that I owed the money and sustained the charges. I have not paid them. I closed my account and will fight tooth and nail against not only the Acai Berry issue but also Commerce Bank's indifference to abuse of its account holders.

Terrible bank
A day or two prior to Thanksgiving 2008, I went to the Demun Branch on Clayton Road and specifically ask that this account be closed. The representative remembered me from the time I had opened the account, and said no problem, he would gladly close the account. After presenting my driver's license for verification, his completion of the paperwork, he then presented me with cash in the amount of $8 and some change (and said the account was closed).
A week later I started receiving statements in the mail saying items were presented for payment and being returned, and $35 fees were being applied to that account. I contacted the bank and asked why fees were being applied to a closed account, and I was told, 'well the account isn't closed for 30-days after a request is made, and as long as items are not presented for payments, then they will close the account.' If items are sent to the bank, they are returned however, that will cause the account to open itself, and fees will continue to apply. If these fees are not paid then they will send my account to some checkmate agency that will cause me to not be able to write checks until those fees are paid.
I've had numerous request for payments from payday loan companies, (which I had informed them in advance that Commerce Bank account was now a closed, and the funds were not available). The payday loans would continue to send their request for payments regardless, and Commerce Bank was informed of this, however, they continued to keep the account open, and continued to apply these fees to what I though was a closed account. They say I now have over $665 in fees, and they will fix it so that I can't write checks until they are paid.
I think this is illegal, unjust, and there's just no way I can pay these fees! Commerce Bank is totally out of their mind for practicing in this manner, there's just no way this can be legal! I wrote to the Manager Brian Buck and as of to-date there has been no response from him!

Fraud and cheating
For about the 3rd time now, Commerce Bank has posted something in my Pending Transactions online, including taking the money out of my account and once that item is credited back to my account (because I have returned it), they have removed it from my Pending Transactions, but not credited the money back to my account.
They like to say that the transactions canceled themselves out, but that isn't true because the money was never given back. To make matters worse, because I have contested transactions with them so many times they have since told me that I can no longer get a credit to my account, even if it is their mistake, because I have already had 3 this year... which basically means they have a right to rob me from now on and I can never get my money back.
In a slumping economy where every penny counts, being robbed by your bank is the worst insult.

A bunch of scam artists
The same thing happened to me. I have two gift cards, one for $200 and the other for $150 only to find that $2.50 a month was being taken out for their maintenance fees. WHAT MAINTENANCE???? I called and spoke to several supervisors and they won't refund my money. Funny, when I got the gift card, Commerce Bank's name was not listed in the greeting with mine!! WHAT A BUNCH OF SCAM ARTISTS! HOW DARE THEY!
Where do they come off charging fees? I'm going to file a complaint...or better yet...I'll call the news!!

Abetting internet fraud
I was a long-time Commerce bank customer here in Springfield, missouri. In reviewing my account status on the internet recently I noticed some "Pending Charges" which I had not authorized. (This was a Colonsmart scam where I paid $3.95 through Commerce for shipping of a "Free Trial" product sample, then Colonsmart immediately took my account number and started hammering me for unauthorized purchases.) I immediately went in person to my local bank to advise them of this scam, so that they could take necessary steps to protect me from this pending theft. They refused. They treated this criminal act as if it were nothing more than a routine dispute between buyer and seller over a routine and legitimate transaction. In fact, they ended up aiding and abetting the thieving scumbags at colonsmart.
It was like the cowboy who came across a family of settlers who had been killed by indians, all except for their teen-aged daughter, who had been raped and left naked and bruised, staked out on the ground. When the cowboy rode up she started sobbing and telling him of the atrocities she had seen and endured that day, and how thankful she was that he had arrived. The cowboy climbs down off his horse, ogles the girl's nakedness for a minute, then unbuckles his belt and drops his jeans and says, "Well, ma'am, it looks like this just ain't your day." That's Commerce Bank's attitude toward their scammed customers.

Illegal actions
I have an account with Commerce Bank and have been happy for the past year. Well, I was embarrassed greatly the other night. I went to dinner with my mom. When the bill came I took the check and gave the waiter my check card.
I was so embarrassed when he came back and said it was declined. I was in shock and so was she. I had gone to the bank the day before and deposited over 2000 and my pay check was also in the bank which was another 1500 so I had no idea what was going on. I called the bank and was told that they turned my card off because I had been gambling on an online bingo site. I was shocked not once had they told me in the six months that I had been playing on the site that it was illegal and that I shouldnt be doing it. They just up and deactivated my card one day. Needless to say, I will be getting another bank very soon.

Stay away
Well, I have been a customer of Commerce Bank for the past year. The other day I got paid direct deposit which was $1040 after taxes and I also deposited another $2000 in the bank as well. I took some friends and a co-worker to lunch and my atm card was declined. I called the bank and was told they deactivated the card because I used my atm card on at a casino atm. I was pissed. I cursed them out something terrible. Needless to say, I'm moving on and getting a new bank. Do Not get Commerce as your bank!

Illegal action
I was trying to deposit 1980.00 cash deposit into bank account, after handling the cash to the teller, she claims that I give her only 1780.00, after asking her for some physical bills that I give her. She bring me different money, to prove that she is lying,
I try to deposit 400.00, but I memorize the serial numbers of the bills, but before finishing the transaction, I ask for the some money, she give the different money, than the manager confess that once you put the money in the machine to be counted, you cannot has the some money, but the some amount, which mean if the machine is wrong about counting, than you are out of luck for good.
Is illegal for bank to mix the consumer money with their money before finishing transaction of counting and printing his receipt of deposit? I'm trying to Federal Reserve help line, please anyone with the some situation.

Reopened a closed account and charged late fees
I closed my account at Commerce in June 2007. I recently received a collection notice for $100. I went to the bank and their explanation was that in August they gave their customers a rebate of $4.00 which opened the account automatically which began the monthly charge for being below the minimum. Can they do that? Now they are giving the run around. I have 30 days to pay the $100 before it goes into collection and reported to the credit report. I was told go back in couple of days and speak to the bank manager after he has had a chance to look at the paperwork.
