Since caller ID said, "Customer Service" I answered, thinking it was may be a legitimate call. Said hello many times before some man spoke & called me by my first name. He didn't identify himself or the company he was calling from. His pushy sales pitch started with him telling me the last four digits of my (old) credit card and reassured me there was nothing wrong with my card, but...
"they were going to send me a $100 gift card in the mail that could be used at Walmart etc., blah, blah..."
I cut him off by telling him, "DO NOT SEND ME ANYTHING!" and I also told him that credit card was no longer valid, which it isn't.
Do NOT fall for the "free gift card in the mail" scam! They all include an "opt out" option that the solicitors, I mean scammers, do not tell you about. Most victims of this scam do not realize they have to do something to "opt out" within a certain amount of time, or their credit card will be charged monthly for "crap" that they unknowingly agreed to when accepting the gift card.
If the scammers even bother to mention the "fine print, " they will talk VERY FAST through these details and even skip over a few words. You will not be able to understand them. Do NOT let them intimidate you. Tell them, "You do NOT have permission to send me anything!" and promptly hang up...
I know this information because a few months ago a fast-talking bottom feeder called with the same scam, and as I asked the guy a ton of questions, the truth about all of the hidden costs eventually came out. Of course I told him to stick the gift card and his scam where the sun don't shine!!!
IF you have accepted the gift card, cancel that credit card immediately and be sure to do everything to "opt out" of their scam. If you receive identifying information about the company, turn it over to the BBB and FTC.
