Dangerous/Hazardous Batteries
Office Max is knowingly and intentionally selling Compaq laptops with hazardous and dangerous batteries and not refunding customers for this fraud. They will tell you to it takes 20 minutes for the new laptop to boot, all the while knowing that these chinese batteries are defective and could possibly destroy the computer or cause harm prior to that 20 minutes. My battery heats up to burning within 10 minutes. An ex employee of office max says they are aware of the fact that they sell defective products and hide behind their return policies, thus they are getting a great deal with manufacturers to sell their defective products.

Bad service
I ran the utility to create "recovery discs" on my new laptop. It aborted. I registered and emailed tech support for a set of discs. I waited. I emailed again. I waited. Over 3 months, including two emails to the office of the CEO, Mark Hurd, this produced...NO EFFECTIVE COMPAQ SUPPORT!
My laptop is useless without recovery discs and I can't get normal support, escalated support, or support from the office of the CEO.
Will I ever recommend or buy Compaq or HP again? Not in THIS lifetime.

$200 Cashback not received
I purchased a Compaq Presario C776TU from Dick Smith Powerhouse in Hamilton, NZ on 8 July, 2008, on the premise that the product was subject to a $200 manufacturers 'cashback'.
We sent away the Duplicate receipt along with the paperwork required to Compaq and to date have not see our $200 nor heard from the company concerned.

no cash back recieved
On the 21/05/08 we purchased a Compaq Presario C774TU NB from Dick Smith Electronics at Carnes Hill Marketplace with the Cash back offer. On the 06/08/08 we completed and downloaded the appropriate form from www.compaq.com/cashback as per instruction on the cashback promo together with a copy of the sales reciept and mailed it to Locked bag 7507, McMahons Point, Noth Sydney, as per instruction on the sales promo well before the Final Claim date of 15/08/08. It has now been over three months and we have not yet recieved our cashback entitlement as promised. Can you please chase up this claim and pay us as promised or I have noticed there is lawyers online on this site and will contact them as to what our next step would be to redeem our offer. A prompt reply to this email would be appreciated. Thanking you.

Rebate
My husband and I bought a laptop from RadioShack..it was a spur of the moment purchse because we were supposed to get some really great REBATES to make it ridiculously inexpensive. So, we get everything home and of course I make copies of all the receipts and UPCs and fill everything out and send them via mail to the listed addresses. Of course you have to wake some ridiculous 8 to 12 weeks for your money...so there are about 4 rebates...I get three back...all the small amounts. The one I am waiting for is the big one...about $400. After what I consider to be a good length of time I let my husband know we still have not gotten the money and we look at my copies of everything to find the email address and immediately contact them. We don't hear back from them. So we contact them again. When we first hear back from them they say we did not send the correct UPC. PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG, but normally when this occurs with a mail in rebate they send you a letter so that you are able to send the correct information back to them...of course that is the one envelope that I get the 15 UPCs mixed up in...I'm human, we make mistakes. So, my husband says okay, we have copies, we can send it to you now...they say no...the time is up... We missed it by DAYS...it took them WEEKS to respond from the first time we tried to contact them. Which my husband told the "customer service" rep and she basically said, tough luck. So he wants to speak with her supervisor...she says you can, but he won't do anything for you...he will tell you what I just told you. He says that he wants to talk to them anyway. And then...he is not available. WHAT!?!? So now we are out $400 on a laptop that has already been sent in 2 times for maintenance. STAY AWAY FROM RADIOSHACK!! We will never go back...not even for a battery!
