NSF FEES
My account went into overdraft do to me paying my AT&T bill, which was my fault. However, when it was not cleared up in 10 days they began charging $7/day from the day it went into overdraft. No diclosure or notice was given until the fees reached $241.00. The employees was less than helpful. If you have a similar problem send a complaint to the Federal Reserve Bank (their regulator) at http://www.federalreserveconsumerhelp.gov/

customer service
Their customer service reps are sometimes really rude! They also aren't very knowledgeable... plus their over-the-phone surveys suck. They're so wordy and awful. The people doing them are really nice, but I don't think they actually work for the bank, so that's probably why.

excessive inactivity fee
Unbelievable fees. I had used this account to manage my travel expenses for work related travel. Being unemployed, the account was inactive. They said I was informed that a fee would be imposed but I never saw one. They charged $39 inactivity fee. Bad, but it gets worse. I thought that at least the fee would be considered an 'activity'. It wasn't. They charge another $39 the next month. I went in to discuss but they did not seem to care on way or another so I closed the account. I will soon be reemployed and need another account and you can rest assured I will not be using Compass.

Lost $10,000 of my money
This happened several years ago but it still steams me to this day! I agreed to transferr $10, 000 from an IRA to an Annuity in December 2004 at the Crestline Branch. I completed all the paper work and the branch manager, Grant Lauderdale, gave me a copy of the paperwork and told me I'd get confirmation in the mail from the annuity company... Well, I'm not a rich man, but I trusted Compass with this money... and I sort of forgot about it... I never did get a statement and a couple of years went by and I thought "I'd better check on this money"... so I went back to the Crestline Branch in late 2007 (3 years.. I know!) - the Lauderdale guy was long gone.. so I spoke with the branch manager and told them I wanted to confirm the annuity was in force... they looked and looked and told me they had no record of the transaction and gave me a number to call in their brokerage dept... I called and they looked and looked and said sorry... no record or an annuity OR you old IRA... "sorry, sir - you'll have to prove to us that we processed this transaction"... I felt like a fool! I could not remember where that carbon copy was... so I dug through old boxes of stuff (thank God I keep everything) and finally found it. So I took it back to Crestline and they said... we'll look into it... I heard nothing from them for over a week so i called again and they acted like they knew nothing about it... and another guy told me "we have no idea where this money is"... Well it turns out that Grant Lauderdale never submitted the annuity paperwork and he left the bank shortly thereafter... and the money was finally traced to a "unknown" account. TO THINK... if I had not kept that piece of carbon copy paper I would have been out over $10, 000... Anyway, what made me so mad was that the bank offered me no apology... Forest Suber in brokerage acted like I was just bothering him... I will never do business with them again... they lose your money and then act like it was my fault. THERE...I got it off my chest! Oh, and I continue to get a bank account statement showing I have 9 cents in the account - and I closed the account in 2003 and have asked then numerous times to just keep the 9 cents and stop mailing me a statement every month... but I keep getting it.

Excessive NSF Fees/Holding Cash Deposits
I had a business account and a personal account with Compass. Had multiple NSF charges even though I was transferring from one account to another. I couldn't even figure out what the NSF fees where against. I have never known a cash deposit to be HELD in pending and also a transfer from one account to another. Had them explain it to me and still confused as to why I have NSF Fees totaling over $500. I will gladly join a Class Action Lawsuit. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH COMPASS.

Fuzzy math
My statement listed 4 debit items showing positive balance on the same date. The next debit item was listed on the following date and my account was charged a $38.00 overdraft fee for that item and 4 $38.00 fees for the debit items from the previous day. You can imagine the snowball affect this caused. Now they are billing me for almost $700 in fees. THIEVES!!

Nazi banking techniques
All of us can't be wrong:

http://www.complaintsboard.com/?search=compass+bank&everything=Everything

My exhusband gave me a check to deposit from his new account he opened with Chase bank

because I borrowed some money from him. He later come back and told me that Chase closed

his account due to information they found about him.

I immediately contacted my bank (Compass) to ask how this would affect me and I was told

that the $333.00 would be reversed and I would pay a $6 fee.

The next day I was checking for my automatic deposit of my paycheck and to see if my

father's $1, 200 wire had posted to my account only to find that my account had been frozen.

I called Compass customer service as was told that my account was frozen but not closed

because back in December of 2009 my ex-husband tried to cash a check for $730.00 and the

signature did not match.

I went to the branch and explained that I gave him the check because I wrote it from my

hospital bed. The story then changed and I was told that my account is frozen because I

knowingly deposited a check into my account on a closed account.

Corporate security not only froze my account for closure but they are holding all my money

until January 20, 2010 so I am told. This happened on January 4, 2010.

I have been everyone just to get this story out so that people can make up their minds is

this the type of bank they want to keep their money in.

Is this not how the holocaust or slavery started because anyone who can do anything just

turned their backs. Should your zip code determine if your story is important or not.

Isn't it time that the news really looked at what local news is all about. The people that

it serve not just when we are on fire, shot and arrested.

Somebody please tell my story...

Unfair business practices NSF
I used my Compass debit card while on Christmas vacation. All was fine until we went to an event that we had prepaid (so we thought) on a totally different card. After we had finished, we were told that card was only used to hold the reservation. The problem was we didn't have that card with us, so, I put it on my Compass card knowing it would push me to my limit. I asked a relative to make a deposit the next morning to take care of the problem and I fully expected to be charged one NSF fee. It was our misunderstanding when we made the reservation so I was willing to take my "punishment". Once I returned home and checked my account, I was shocked to find out that Compass bank had processed all of my vacation charges in order from largest to smallest AND had held my CASH deposit. Since the problematic charge was the largest it was charged first and I ended up with FOUR NSF charges instead of 1. The maddening thing about it all was that charge was $1.66 over my balance. My NSF charges ended up being 152.00.

I talked to customer service and was told, they do process debits first in order from largest to smallest and THEN process deposits. What kind of unfair practice is that?

I went into the local branch and the manager was rude and unsympathetic. I had printed pages and pages of these complaints so when she tried to make it sound like it was just my negligent book keeping practices, I showed her the stack and told her they were only the tip of the iceberg and that I found it hard to believe ALL of the people complaining were "poor bookkeepers". She said the bank was only trying to help the customer because the larger charges are usually mortgages or car payments and they would rather make sure those got paid first. What she didn't address it that no matter what order the charges are in, they pay them ALL anyway and how does it help the customer if changing the order causes multiple NSF fees. Her answer was that we (the customers) shouldn't keep such dangerously low balances. Where has she been for the last year?

Anyway, I informed her I was not going to bank with a bank whose practices purposely screw the customers. She really didn't like that comment but could have cared less that I was closing my account. I have accounts with Compass since 1985. No thank you, no sorry, what can we do to make you a happy customer???

Good riddance.

NSF
I can't believe all the complaints! I thought I was the only one with these EXACT issues. I would like to add that customer service in completely inconsiderate and rude. I was treated like garbage and wish there was something I could do besides leave the bank. Thank you for bailing out out trusty, reliable, considerate banks! Unbelievable. Hello 1st Bank!

ATM machine ate my business debit card
To start Compass ATM machine ate my business debit card. I asked teller to look into it and she denied it. She flat out said there is no card in the ATM machine. The next day they called me and said they found a card because a customer turned it in from the ATM machine. I asked them to cancel it. Two weeks went by but I didn't get the new card. When I called them, they said they never cancelled it. I asked them again to cancel it. After a week I got (not one) personal (not business) debit cards in mail. I went to the bank and they told they made a mistake. Now I had three debit cards (one that I've been using) and two new ones. They cancelled two of the personal checking account cards and I kept one of the new cards. They told me I will get the new business debit card in a week. Finally my new business debit card arrived. A week later I started getting these over draft charges in mail from my business account. I called compass and they said they had screwed up my debit cards and that they have to look into it.. Now my personal debit card was taking money out of my business account and the balance had gone to negative and they were hitting me with $38 over draft fees every time I made a purchase with my personal debit card. No one ever called me back so after couple of days I went to the branch. This is almost a month ongoing now. I went to the bank and asked them to look into it. I got interrogated and felt like as if they are trying to blame it on me. Finally they said they will look into it and will call me back. Three days went by and they finally called me back and said they had voided all the overdraft fees so I didn’t have to pay it. But now my balance was negative because I couldn’t transfer any money to my business account due to the whole mess they put me in. She demanded that I come to the bank right away to put money back in that account or they would not cover me if there is any charges coming in against that account. I was at work and I couldn’t make it to the bank that day. Next day I went to the bank and she has the audacity to tell me that since she called me the day before, there has been to charges on that account from my automatic withdraw accounts and now I have to pay over draft fees no matter what. They made me wait over a month to fix this mess but now they punish me for behind a day late. DO NOT open an account with Compass Bank. Half of my fiends have left that bank due to similar reasons.
