Inactive Account Fee
I have had an account with Compass Bank for over a year, but have not had any activity. When I looked over my monthly statement I noticed that I was charged $10.00 for having an inactive account. I did not agree to this when I opened my account. After calling Compass Bank, I was placed on hold for over 10 minutes and did not have a chance to talk to a customer service representative.
Not only did Compass take my money without asking, but they have horrible customer service.

Stay away
Applied a new checking account 1wk ago from BBVA Compass bank. Called three times to be able to set up online login. Initial deposit was withdrew from another bank on Nov. 23. Money is gone from another account but didn't show up in this new Compass checking account. I'm transferred to 2 reps and both of them didn't give any useful info and told me they don't where is the money go. Customer service is extremely slow.
The Compass Online Banking is worst one I've used. It's not fully automatic online banking. You have to call in to setup everything. The application form is also delayed.

NSF
On a Friday before 4 p.m. a large sum of cash was deposited in my account at the drive thru. The money did not show up on the account until Wednesday morning. NSF fees were assessed and it was explained that it does not count until its posted and it takes two business days to post.

Holding Deposits and transacting debits to generate NSF fees
I made the mistake of opening a checking account with Compass Bank 6 months ago. It generally takes them 24 hours to process an automatic deposit. Deposit goes into the bank electronically at midnight, shows as pending and if you use your debit card the next day they will process the debit before they post the deposit IF the debit creates a negative balance so they can charge you an NSF fee.
I had 300 in my account. Used my debit card four times on Tuesday and had the funds to cover the debits, wrote a check on Thursday and had an automatic deposit made on Thursday night. They held the deposit until Saturday. Processed all four of the debit and the check on Friday BEFORE processing the deposit and then charged me four NSF fees in the amount of $38.00.
I will be closing the account. Their customer service is poor and they obviously don't care they have a low customer base.

Fees
Thi sbank will manipulate your deposits and withdrawels any way they can in order to charge a overdraft charge. They actually went back in my account 5 days to charge me 4 overdraft fees. I used my card on a Saturday with ample funds. On Wednesday, after my deposit I used it again. They stated that since I used iy on wednesday it took funds out that were on hold from Saturday and charged insufficient on Thursday. Three times. Then on Friday they charged one more for the transaction on Wednesday. I use direct deposit so the funds were there. They explained how the one worked on Friday that hegated the explanation for the ones on Wednesday. Then they said something totally different. It appears that thi sbank is croocked and will manipulate your funds anyway they can to get your money.<br />
I would advise no one to use this bank. I am closing my2 accounts with them.

NEVER WILL BANK WITH THEM AGAIN
From day 1 I have had nothing but problems with compass bank. I have only had the account for 6 months. I havent had a bank in a while until i opened up this account. (after my dilemas with compass it may be another long while to trust another bank) I just called tonight to check my balance since ive had so many previous issues before. It said i was negative $91.00. I was floored because i last went to a compass atm 2 weeks ago to withdraw $260 from my checking account which i knew was in there because i called to check the balance and did a balance inquiry, mind you from the compass bank atm, verifying the money was in there. My gut was telling me to call tonight and then I spoke to rep whom told me that there was a $2 atm fee on the same night of the withdrawal. I could not understand why since i went to my own bank's atm to avoid fees in the first place. The rep told me that they charge an atm fee and since it put my account negative they charged me $38 and then another $38 for it being negative 6 days and then $7 per day until it is put positive again. I could not understand since i have been to a compass atm before (not the same machine) with no issues. The rep told me that the fee assess depending on which atm location it is although its my own bank's. I contested the amount and wanted a manager. He then said they cannot credit my account back and will have a customer compliance agent contact me in 24 - 48 hrs.
This is some bull-shit. I will never recommend this bank to anyone.

NSF fees
Compass Bank is a joke - We had 6 accounts. They charge there debits before credits so your co called free checking is not free. You can have your payroll be credit Tuesday morning if you withdraw money from there bank on that day they will charge you nsf fees. Had over 7 such fees refunded from there customer service line only to have one of my accounts shut down by local assitant manager Amy Whitehouse 352-694-8368. Explained the NSF fees were do to there error - She did not care. Went in to close 5 of the 6 accounts to until they could release the 6th. Still they care less. Complain to Regional Manager Chuck Sprague 352-367-5073 no reponse - no response - no response - Sucky bank. We have two buisness's in the Ocala area both we have refuse to take any one check or debit card issued from compass. If you have an account with them close it it will be the best thing you ever did!!!

overdraft fees
My experience with my son's bank account and Compass charging excessive overdraft fees to the tune of over $3, 000 in a 2 month period while he was working in a remote part of Oklahoma (full time student but worked seismic in the summer to pay for school). No access to internet, had no idea his account was overdrawn (to do a direct deposit paycheck being deposited, then reversed and not redeposted for two more weeks). He had not received bank statements in the mail for serveral months, because he had moved, filed a change of address with Compass, but they said he had the zip code wrong so they were being returned to the bank. He had at the time over $20, 000 in a Compass Brokerage account, so I tried to negotiate on his behalf and was met with absolute rudeness and unprofessionalism.
Then last year, I finally convinced him to close the Compass Account and go with Wells Fargo. He closed the account, an auto debit went through without his knowledge on his car insurance and suddenly he had again over $300 in overdraft fees. It took forever to get Compass to reverse these charges and to actually CLOSE the account. Then a few months later he gets a statement that his savings account is overdrawn by $4.00. Huh???? Glad he has finally done with Compass. Does anyone know of any class action lawsuits against Compass for overdraft fees. I would gladly join the cause.

NSF
I looked at my account yesterday, I had enough money in my account, I subtracted my pending transactions and everything looked great, so I went to get gas for my car, when I got to work I checked my account again and again everything looked great. (I work for a bank one of the big ones) the next day I checked my account and there was 2 NSF fees on 2 transactions one for $2.00, one for $66.72, now remind you I work for a bank, I was a little upset because my deposit went in that same day, have you noticed that they put you in the hole before they take any money out?? Well they do, they charged me $38.00 for the $2.00 that of which could of been taken out of the amount with out any recall, then the other for $66.72 so here I look at my bill they took out the overdraft b-4 the transactions, well to make things worse they charged me $38.00NSF for my deposit and another $38.00 for my $11.00 purchase. Now I am pissed I cant even make my house payment without going into OD, I was mad my poor wife took the blunt of it, she was crying, Now I called 1-800-compass I talked to customer service about this little problem they hung up on me, (yes I was upset but in control) so I recalled them I got customer service again and asked about this problem again, so they start telling me about the pre-charge of the pending transactions and that I was in the hole way before the $66.72 and the $2.oo. So I said Looking at my account online and said, no you are wrong I was positive not in the hole, and they proceed to tell me that the amount on line was wrong, which I returned and said no it is not, (the bank manager told me to watch my account everyday so I would not get NSF's) I told her to take the $339.76 and subtract 302.48, does that leave me in the negative if it does then something is Really wrong, I want to talk to your manager, she said in a minute let me tell you how and where you went into the negative, I said I believe that I am going to contact my Lawyer and pull my account, she then said if you look you. I then said NO I WANT TO TALK TO YOUR MANAGER, she then said let me put you on hold, (I was thinking that she would hang up on me) after about 4-5 minutes she came back on and told me that they were going to have their lawyers look at it and call me with in 24 hours. I think that I will get a hold of my states attorney general, and my lawyer plus the media.

unfair practices/NSF
I have a small trucking company and I have accounts with Compass Bank, one for payroll and one for operating (daily expenses). I make deposits regularly and transfer funds between these accounts as needed. If you deposit monies in your account, before closing, to cover items that are sent out they will tally at the end of the day and take the debits before the credits and charge you the NSF charges even though you deposited the money the same day. Today, I just was charged $250.00 in NSF because I transfered funds to cover payroll checks on the 28th, 3 checks hit on the 28th, they charged me, then on the 29th they charged me 4 more charges because the checks were deposited on the 28th at different banks by my employees, did not clear my bank till 29th, I had ample monies to cover the checks, because I made that transfer on the 28th and it was posted on the 28th, they did not have to pay these items until they got to my bank on the 29th, however they charged my account NSF charges. Better yet, there was never any charge pending prior to that under their pending charges block on the online banking page. This is Robbery!
And something needs to be done about this.
