Not Too Bad So Far
Well let me start off by saying that I recieved my auto loan through another lender that went out of business and Consumer Portfolio Services (CPS) took over their clients. When I recieved notice about the switch I immediately googled CPS to see the company profile and was so surprised by the number of complaints and negative reviews I saw. I immediately labeled them as the type of company that I wanted nothing to deal with but at the same time there was nothing I could do because I like my car and I figured I would just have to stay on top of my payments to prevent any problems with this company.
Well like many sometimes life hits us with the unexpected and I fell behind on a few bills and unfortunately my car note was one of them. I regret having to call CPS and tell them that I would not thave their money but I had no choice so I called. I admit when I called there was a guy that was rude but somehow we got disconnected (I didnt hang up I promise lol) and when I called back I spoke with a woman who to my surprise was very professional and actually worked out a payment arrangement with me. I thought it was too good to be true. To my surprise I never once recieved ANY harassing calls and I made my payments as promised. So I was so surprised about all the complaints I saw but then I realized that this is a company that works with people with poor credit. I can only imagine the bullshit calls they recieve of people trying not to pay their note and trying to get over. I am not making excuses for this company I just feel that we as people should be more grateful because they did not have to approve us for a loan. We are a risk to their company and we should do our best to pay our car note and try to establish some credit cause obviously our credit sucks because if it didn't we would not have to go through CPS.

Harrasment
As I see there are lots of people dealing with this company and getting the same harrasment phone calls as I do. I have several complaints about this company. I have realized that if you are just 3 days late on a payment they start calling your phone, work phone, even my fathers phone. At one time I was $138 short on a payment and my next payment was due within 2 days. They called my work one day and lucky me who answers the phone at my job (which employs over 500 people mind you). We are not allowed personal phone calls either so I said she is not in and cannont receive personal phone calls either. The lady then said WELL I KNOW THIS IS HER! And I am telling her its not and blah blah blah and hung up the phone...well go figure they keep calling and I have to answer the phone and we do not have caller ID in there if its an outside call. She got an attitude with me and then said well can I talk to her supervisor? This is not allowed they can't get your work and others in your personal financial problems. Eventually I just said I was going to pay the balance in two days when I get my check. They set me up to believe a towing company was outside looking for my car and I had to pay them the balance now or my car will be towed. I went ahead and did it and left it at that. Well another time I was almost 30 days behind once again and they called my job again! I was'nt in yet because I work 2nd shift and the guy asked my coworker why I wasn't at work!!! She got an attitude back at him and hung up. Every worker there I have talked to is rude and has no sense. As of right now I just paid them $300 a week ago from me being past due due to a relocation and start of a new job...I am currently 2 weeks behind on my payment this month and they call me at least 4 times a day...probably more because I have no service at my job so I cant get any phone calls! Something needs to be done to this company!

Calls others and gives detail infor about my loan status
They changed my original due from the 13th of the month to the 1st without my permission or request. If my loan payment becomes past due they call my work, fax my work and if I hit 60 days (twice I have) they call everyone of my references and leave detailed information about my loan status, even my last payment date. They have threatened to send the repossession company over to get my van - I was passed due $100. due to a posting error by Western Union. - $100. I told them when the repo man came - I'd give him the $100.

harrassing and rude
I called into CPS to set up a payment arrangement for the following week and the man I spoke with (MIKE) was unreal. He threatened to take my van. He actually yelled at me! I asked to speak to a supervisor and he said no. I, again, told him that I was not going to argue with him and that he made me feel uncomfortable and that I wanted to speak to someone else. He said, "Why, because I won't do what you want me to, still no!" Only after I told him that I was going to start recording the conversation, he finally gave me to someone else. The other gentleman (BRENT)was proffesional and set up the arrangement with no problem. Brent even stated that I had made my payments faithfully for over 2 years with no problem so he didn't understand the problem with being a week late, yes just a week. Brent also told me that he'd have a supervisor call me so I could report how Mike was acting but no one ever called.

Harrassment
When I got laid off my job in 2/09, I informed this company that I could no longer make the payments on the car and to come and get it. After many letters and filing complaints with the BBB and the State Attorney General's Office, they kept threatening and calling. They finally come and got the car in the middle of May. I sent them an invoice for storage as I kept the car in a secured place until they picked it up and they haven't paid me. They claim they sold the car and I asked for proof of such and the amount and they haven't taken care of either request. They consistently call and most of the time it is only a recording and I have informed them that my only income is social security which is exempt from garnishment and have sent registered certified letters alot to them but they still call. Of course there is a balance owing on the vehicle that I turned in, but there is no way I can or will pay the balance. This company should not be allowed to be in business and if you want to read more about them, just go to their site and you won't believe what this company has done to people. I even informed the dealership where I got the car that they should not deal with this company, but I never heard back from them.

Harassment
I have had a auto loan with CPS since 2005. I signed up for the automatic payment option when I purchased my car. I have been on time with my payments for the last 5 years and am close to paying off my loan. I was recently laid off from my job and applied for unemployment benefits. As most people know this process can take anywhere from 8 to 12 weeks. I called CPS and let them know of my situation and was spoken to rudely and was given no consideration even though I had been a loyal customer who paid their bills on time. I have been HARASSED the last few months with several phone calls a day on my home and cell phone at all hours of the morning and evening. I am only one month behind in payments and agreed to catch up once I received my unemployment check. I have never been treated or spoken to in such an unprofessional manner and on top of that they leave threatening messages like "if we don't hear back from you today i'll have to make a decision on your car". What kinda crap is that? My boyfriend sometimes gets the messages before me and is VERY concerned about who I have my loan with. It is emberassing when they are constantly calling, even though you spoke to someone SEVERAL times! Plus, not only do they call and harass you, they call anyone you have down as a reference! Not sure if these people get a commission or what. I want to switch my loan to someone else immediately! This business should be ashamed of themselves and be closed down by the better business bureau.

Payment credits
CPS has continuously posted payments to our account AFTER the due date, however each payment was sent AND deducted from my bank account BEFORE the due date. Our last 10 payments are showing late charges incorrectly.
We recently made the last scheduled payment, a total of 48. They are claiming we only made 47, ( the payment history I have that shows 48, and has been looked at by my accountant and my attorney) came from THEIR records!!!
They also double 'autodrafted' my account, which in turn caused not only a negative balance, but bounced a mortgage payment. THEN they charge me an NSF FEE for that check, even though that months payment was made and posted!
SCAMMERS and THIEVES...
I have filed several complaints with the States Attorneys office.

This company sucks!!! Calls all the time multiple times a day with threats and lies. Calls yelling at my boss. They are rude im not even 30 days behind. Calling my grandmothers house the day we buried my grandpa and telling her that they are coming to take my car away and making her cry.

I was financed through another Company for my car loan. The finance went bankcrupt, and CPS took over.. I was sent ONE letter informing me of the company change, along with my new account number. I lost all my documents while moving, and tried to contact CPS to get my account number so I could send my payment. I called numerous times, and could not get in contact with any live person. I was always referred to leave a voice message with a return number and my Social security number( which is very unsafe to do). I NEVER received a return call. I received NO aditional bills to make a payment, and no call backs. It has now been four months and still no catact has been successful. Now they are looking for my car for reposession, and have not gotten any advance notice. I am still trying to contact CPS, and still no contact, and no return call. DO NOT GET FINANCED WITH THIS COMPANY IF YOU ARE SEEKING A LOAN FOR A CAR. This is a Dishonest company, avoiding your payments only to repo your car and sell it to collect the dept from the companies they take over. BEWARE if your company has been taken over by CPS. You'll be sure to lose your verhicle.

Excessive Phone Calls
These people call my excessively at work for my loan payment. I believe they sent out someone to repossess my car and I saw them sitting in my apartment complex so I left then came back about 20 minutes later and they were parked in a different location. When I called to ask if they had sent someone to repossess my car, they wouldn't give me a straight answer. Also they asked me the condition of my car. I would love to give them the car back!!! Working with this company has been a nightmare. Please let me know about the lawsuit. I'm all in!
