To the reader, please go over these lines, as is my intention to spare you from a very bad experience when dealing with this company.
While the people I talked to in the office were courteous and sounded professional, the three movers they send me were unprofessional, unfriendly, inexperienced and overcharged us. Now my wife and I are in the turmoil of filing claims and making several upsetting phone calls a day to get things straightened out.
First they showed up an hour late and after being extremely pushy with my wife to make her write down her initials on the contract. Most of our stuff was packed (we were moving a small studio) and even when the job was mostly putting sealed boxes on a truck (less than 25 medium boxes to be precise) they took more than an hour (purposely, to charge us more). When we moved form New York it took 3 very efficient guys to load these exact same boxes no more than 25 minutes into their truck (consider that one of them spent about 10 minutes finding parking for truck in Midtown Manhattan). Back to our sad story, these incompetents from Continental Express not only were unbearably slow, but also broke our entertainment center while "carefully" packing it. Now its ruined and, while still can be used, I can no longer install the steel legs it had which gave it a nice modern look.
To top it off, they told my wife they would not unload the truck until we paid them for 5.5 hours of work (this happened 2.5 hours into the job), and as I said, 2 efficient men would have performed this move in less than 3 hours. Well...we got 3 lazy unfriendly ones. We paid the head guy almost twice the original estimate to "release" our goods. He was very aggressive towards my wife and started adding charges that were not explained to us in our estimate, like a fuel surcharge ($63 to drive a dirty old truck with our stuff for exactly 1.4 miles) and two cardboard boxes which were priced by this individual at more than $50. Now, would you consider it fair to charge such amounts? You be the judge. In the process I had to start unpacking the truck because these people were taking for ever to do so (again, purposely to charge more), plus those 30 minutes they were harassing my wife for the "ransom" money to release our goods were of course added to their "hours of work". Very unprofessional.
To top it off, we asked them to cover our brand new leather sofa with blankets so it would not be damaged. They refused, put the couch on the street while unloading it, and of course scratched the leather...and I do believe it does not take a rocket scientist to realize that an ivory leather sofa would most likely be ruined if dragged on the street. Now we are left with a blemished brand new leather sofa that wee need to try to repair.
Stay away from Continental Express Inc., save your money, spare yourself of a headache, that terrible feel of helplessness, and go with a reputable company that would treat you with decency and that would perform their job correctly, in a timely, professional and courteous manner.
