Received quote for local move of $90 an hour for truck and 3 experienced movers. All items were packed when movers arrived on site. They had me initial a contract on arrival, but no dollars or time were filled in. When ask, they said that there was a three hour minum charge and that they would not know the charges until job wascomplete. Once the truck was loaded and driven to my new house, only 4.5 miles away, the driver requested payment of $1, 371 before he would unload the truck. I asked why the charges were so high, as there was only a small amount of furniture and boxes. That's when he showed me an alleged packing list that they had performed for an additional total of $771.00. The driver said that if we didn't pay the fee in advance that he would leave and charge us a storage fee on the goods. After much arguing, tears, and frustration, the fees were paid by credit card.
The "experienced" movers were actually two day labors hired for the day at the Home Depot in Fresno. One of the workers was so disgusted by the unethical behavior of the Fast Lane driver that he actually quit! The driver said that he would only drop the items in the driveway and that we would have to move the into the house. With the help of my step dad, brother, and sister-in-law, we moved the items from the driveway into the house.
The packing list showed that they had packed nine dish packs at a cost of $35.86 per box. There were zero, nata, no dish packs used what-so-ever! The driver had tapped some cardboard around a TV and actuall had the nerve to call that a dish pack. They also placed a computer monitor into one of my boxes with no tape or paper and charged me for packing a medium box. One box had one bed pillow inside. The boxes were opened with no paper used. On top of that, they were my Home Depot Boxes!
The movers came on a Friday and on Monday I drove to Fremont from Fresno to talk to the Manager and pick up several items that the driver had failed to unload. Of coarse the manager told me that all the charges were valid and that we got a good value for our money!
The bottom line is that this move should have cost no more than $450.00 tops, even with the double driving time. These guys are defiantly rip-off artist and they extort their customer for ransom once they have the customer's goods in their truck!
Run, don't walk from these guys!!!
