ASBESTOS AND ILLEGAL AND UNETHICAL TENANT RELATIONS CORONADO BAY CLUB RESORT APARTMENTS Coronado California. In December I rented and entered into a three month lease with this management company with a promise that if I stayed longer than three months that my rent would decrease. First problem, no murphy bed as promised which required that I stay in a hotel so not to sleep on the floor. Other significant problems asbestos frying and hanging from the bathroom fan and in other significant areas. I was told there were not asbestos problems when signing the agreement.
The apartment smelled of toxic cigarette fumes and needed paint., Two and one half months into the lease (my last month) came a illegal phone call that I was getting a 20 percent rent increase beginning in two weeks on April l and if I did not accept this increase I was in violation of my agreement or could vacate. I chose to vacate. Now over six months later the management company is attempting to defraud me and collect $1300 for "skipped" rent. This is illegal and unethical as they suggested to vacate if I would not agree to the illegal increase. The law is I must receive this request in writing thirty days before the end of my agreement and that I must agree in writing to accept this increase. I was not given this written notice and did not accept in any capacity and wrote to them in this regard. I heard nothing further about leaving at the end of my term. Also, it is 60 days notice for anything other than a 10 per cent increase by California code. These people are unethical. Probably wanted me out because I requested improvements with paint, asbestos, etc. Go ANYWHERE but to Coronado Bay Club Resort Apartments
