Costco Reviews

Wouldn' let me make a purchase!
I'm 17 years old and I had my eyes on a certain item from Costco for my parents for Christmas. This item was about $300 with tax, and me and my younger brother were going split the price so that we could surprise them on Christmas day (it's a pretty expensive item, but we really wanted to show them some appreciation!) Anyway, my mom is the Costco card owner in our household, so I had to borrow it from her to get in there. I drove there (about 45 minutes, a pretty big drive) And got in successfully with my mothers card. I picked up the item and went straight to the till. The cashier asked if it was my mother's card, and I fessed up :P. Then she informed me that not only could buy anything without my mother being present, but she even had to PAY FOR IT, if I wanted to buy something. I explained that it was a present, the cashier said, re-emberce her after she pays!
Hmm, lets think... "Hey mom, can you pay for your christmas present now? oh hey surprise 3 months in advance. That'll be $300, Ill pay you back later mom!"
Jeeze! I offered to call my mom so she could speak to them and okay the transaction, fax them her ID to confirm it was her on the phone, I had my ID out to prove that I had her last name, whatever I could do to accomodate them, but nope. I also explained that I was 17, so it's not like they would even let me have my OWN card, what am I supposed to do? Finally I told them they just lost a $300 sale and walked out (I guess I wan't even supposed to be in there in the first place, without my own card!)

It makes me angry that first of all you have to pay to have a stupid card to even walk inside their store, otherwise you are not good enough to see the "wonders of Costco." Furthermore, I can't even be a cardholder my self if I WANTED TO, because I'm not old enough! Kind of a no wim situation (Not that i would want to pay $50 for a piece of plastic i'm going to use once!)
Too bad Costco, you just lost a sale, I'm going somewhere else for sure, where the public is allowed into the store without an exspensive piece of plastic!

Membership Policy
For years I have been purchasing products for my work, on my personal Costco card. I have the Executive Membership so I get rewards, and I share with my card with my mom. I usually ask for two receipts so I can get reimbursed at work.

A few weeks ago, I was told that I cannot do this anymore, it is against Corporate Policy to give two receipts, and they made a really big deal about it. I said I would just go through the line twice, and be done with it. They said they would do it for me "this time" but it would be the last. I said, fine, next time I need two receipts I will just go through twice.

Tonight when I went to Costco, there was a hold on my account. I had to be taken aside and told about the policy again. Give me a break!! How ridiculous can you be Costco. We have a membership at my work, so it is not like I am using the membership and your not getting the money. I have my executive membership - which is 100.00 and a work Membership - which is another 50.00 - We spend literally 2, 000 - 5, 000.00 per year at your stores, some years more...and your going to stop me and scold me about wanting two receipts occasionally!! How ridiculous can you be...I am not stealing from you, and I don't appreciate being treated like a thief and a child.

Unfortunately, you do have good prices and products, so I will still shop at your store, HOWEVER, I will do my best to get as much as possible from Cash & Carry, and local stores - I am really tired of your "policies"!!

Card fraud
They send you inserts in the bill whereby you pay a nominal shipping fee and you get an item shipped you as a reward.

I got charged for a Food and Wine magazine for $36.00. The way this fraud works is - they charge this amount knowing most people won't detect the charge or ask for a refund. I am suprised that a well known company like Costco is a party to this.

Small print: There may be some small print in the material I got in the m ail that may show that is consumer at fault. This complaint may not pertain to Costco - rather American Express or some third party.

Bad service
Three years in a row, Costco has neglected to send me my executive membership check. Every year I have to call and fight corporate before they send it to me weeks later.

This year again, they supposedly mailed out my check in January and now at the end of August I have received nothing...again. I complain at the store, but they just request a new check form corporate as they tell me that I will receive a new check within the next few weeks.

I am curious, is anybody else going through this, if so I would appreciate knowing the details of your experiences.

Organic whole milk contains fish oil
I have been purchasing Organic milk from Costco from last 3 years. Last week i brought oragnic milk and i also conusmed some of the cartons, without knowing the milk has a fish oil.

How come an Organic milk has ingredients like FISH OIL.

When you say ORGANIC means it is pure and should not contain any additives or preservatives. The product did mentioned omega-3, but there are natural omega-3 found and we dont suspect the milk can have fish oil in it.

The product is called ORGANIC WHOLE MILK, if you add Fish Oil, the name should be something else. This is misguiding the people.

We are a vegetarian and consumed the milk without knowing it has a fish content. I would like to request you and mark these product appropriately and i also want my money back for these products.

Costco should change the name of this product, ORGANIC WHOLE MILK should be just milk and should not contain fish oil.

Rude Manager
I have been using coupons at Costco since they started sending them. The first couple of times I used them I dutifully cut them out like I do at our other grocery store. Each time I tried to hand them over the cashiers waived me off; they didn't need the coupons and would either punch in some unknown code or scan the coupon booklet (bar code near my address). The coupons would then be deducted for all the items I purchased. Great, I thought. Modern technology at work. I continued to use coupons and after the second or third time stopped cutting them out - why bother? I would show them the booklet, tell them I had coupons and they would do the rest. Well, tonight at 8:30 as the store was closing and there were a number of people waiting in line behind me the cashier ("Sharon") tells me I have to tear them out. I asked if she was kidding. No, she was not. I think I asked her 3 or 4 more times. Was she serious? It's 8:30 at night. The store is closing. There are people lined up behind me and she is going to insist I page through the booklet to tear each one out? I protested, told her I had been coming to Costco for years and never had to cut out coupons before. She then essentially accused me of lying saying they have only had coupons for a little more than a year. Note that I said I had come to Costco for years not that I had used coupons for years. We continued the back and forth, openly arguing, me threatening to complain to the manager, her saying she IS the manager. I was angry and told her so but kept my cool even though I was so mad I was shaking. I dutifully paged through the booklet and started to tear out each coupon one at a time - while people continued to wait behind me in line. Then she keeps telling me the amount due and I notice that it's not changing. She registered all the valid coupons even before I gave them to her, just as they always had. In the end I didn't even give her all the coupons. She was essentially making me jump through these hoops just to go on some kind of power trip. She claimed they needed the coupons because vendors are accusing them of registering coupons falsely. There were a number of different ways she could have dealt with the situation including (1) saying please do it next time and taking the whole booklet which would have provided them with the coupons they needed for the vendors. (2) Continued to insist that I provide the teared out versions but offered to help me tear them out thereby minimizing the conflict and saving everyone including all the other customers in line time, (3) registering the booklet and then suggesting I go the the service desk where someone would help me tear the coupons out (4) Still insisted that I tear them out to satisfy the store policy but do so apologetically, recognizing that I had not tore them out because my expectations had been set by multiple previous experiences in the same store. I know they do a lot of business and my money may not mean much to them, but I spend almost $300 that day and I have never been treated so poorly when spending that kind of money as I was this time. I will call corporate tomorrow and demand a refund on my executive membership. If I want to be treated like dirt I'll shop somewhere where I don't pay for the privilege.

Poor treatment
I am very disappointed with the treatment that I received today at your Eugene store. Jiffy Lube informed me that I had a flat tire and sent me to your store to have it patched. Your employee, Ryan, ignored me while he served the two white males who had come in after I had. When he finally helped me, he said that it was dangerous for Jiffy Lube to send me driving on a flat tire. Then he rudely told me that Costco could not assist with tires which were not purchased at this store. He was exceptionally bad mannered and was not even willing to suggest a nearby place to fix my tire. I have never been treated so poorly and was surprised that he speak in such a degrading tone to a confused young college student. I have spoken to several minority friends, and they have had similarly bad experiences at the Eugene Costco. As a result of this day, my friends and family will not renew their memberships next year, and I will take every opportunity to spread the word that Costco is an unfriendly place for people of color.

mean managers
Zade is the meanest person on the face of the earth. Who do you think you are missy to treat everyone so badly. I am going to make it my business in life to have your career at come to an end. I bet you don't treat Jim Senegal like that when he walks your warehouse.
If you where on the side of the road, broke down in a thunderstorm, with your kids, I would not help you. What you spread around is going to come back around, so be waiting. I hope to see it.

pricing
They raised the price $2.00 on days that the $2.00 off coupon is good - What rip-offs - unfair business practice. I think tax is on the full price so you end up paying more when you use the coupon with the higher price.

Never again.

Rude Employees
While shopping at the Edison, NJ branch of Costco today, my 75 year-old mother, who was shopping with me, was yelled at twice by Costco employees. The first time was when she was pushing the cart down the "cart" side of the check-out line. The woman at the cash register pointed to her with her finger and told her to "get on the other side" . The second time was after we had paid and were about to push the cart away from the register. The employee responsible for putting the scanned items into the cart told her "you have to get out of the way" and pushed her forcibly. Both times the tone was extremely hostile and there was not even so much as an "excuse me", "sorry", or "please". I found this type of behavior absolutely unacceptable. Not only is it terrible customer service, it does not even measure up to standards of common courtesy that people normally use in addressing another human being.
