Countrywide Home Loans Reviews

Slow response!
Countrywide had very bad communication with us. They were given all of our deadlines for our home purchase, yet they continually missed our deadlines even when we called to remind them. Important papers were never mailed or emailed to us, like employees at Countrywide said they would be. We were actually told something was in the mail... we never received it! They took forever to get the appointment for the appraiser, which hurt us in the long run.
They gave us a "pre-qualification" for an FHA loan. That sat on their desk for three weeks before we decided to continue. When they actually tried to qualify us on that loan, we were told that we didn't qualify. Countrywide should have been educated about the qualifications of the loan when we first went in. So, we went with another loan. On the day before closing they had an appraisal done on our house. At noon they called to tell us that everything was going great, the appraisal come back with good numbers and we would be able to make the noon closing time for the next day. An hour later, Countrywide called back saying there were problems with our appraisal and we wouldn't be able to close the next day. We were told that we would now need to put more money down because the appraiser deemed our neighborhood a "soft market". Ultimately, Countrywide's lack of qualification, communication, quick response and truthfulness led us to seek another lender. Hopefully this deal isn't ruined for us!

Late fees
I refinanced my home in California last May and before I could make my first payment my loan was "bundled" and sold to Countrywide.
Everything was fine the first 3 or 4 payments. Then in Oct 2007 I send a payment and it took 12 days to go 300 miles from N. Calif to the Van Nuys PO box. I had sent out several checks that same day and 2 days later one to NY state. The NY check made it there and back to CA before my check to Countrywide. I spent a good deal of time on the phone with the "phony" customer service. The Nov. check was posted at the very last day possible. I paid on line in Dec. They charge about $12 to make an online payment. A real rip off!!
Then this month I sent out my payment on the 11th and they just posted today with another late charge. I postmarked their envelope at my office postage meter and photo copied the check and the letter. I am about to do battle with them again.
I don't know if anyone noitices, but the statement and their website is run by a "debt collector" (read collection agency) who obviously get a cut of each check they post. It is therefore to their advantage to have "late" checks because they also obviously share in this lucrative late fee collection. They probably get more $$ from the late fees than the proper posting of checks. If I could move my loan I would. I was practically called a deadbeat when I called to ask why it takes them about 10 day to post my payment. I notice the 800 number to call customer service is also part of the debt collector's website. Therefore you are still dealing with a collection agency. They treat you like you are an idiot and just keep saying that you need to prove that the check was mailed and postmarked on time. That you should call the PO and have them prove that they did not delay the check and that they have no authority to reverse late charges and to seek repayment from the post office if they can't prove they handled. I caved in this month and paid the late fee but lo and behold I now owe another.
I understand Bank of America is buying them out for 4 billion and the deal should be complete by this summer.
Has anyone else had these problems lately? I had perfect payments for more than 3 years and all of a sudden I can't seem to pay just Countrywide on time

Terrible customer service!
I've never missed a payment with Countrywide Home Loan's Inc until November 2007. I am ultimately responsible for this delinquent bill but there are mitigating circumstances that I guess were never considered by Countrywide.
#1. I had completely paid off my Home Equity Loan in the month of May and wasn't concerned at all about never receiving a bill for November because I believed there was actually no bill to receive.
#2. I had switched over to making my payments electronically and never received any reminder that a bill was due and payable. I was completely clueless about being in arrears with this loan and not one person from Countrywide ever explained to me what the problem was.
What really upsets me is that the bill is for $18.00 and I was never given the benefit of the doubt. Instead of being treated like a good customer and given a courtesy call concerning this huge $18.00 bill that would have been rectified by me immediately, I was treated with total disrespect when Countrywide refused to honor a $500.00 check deposited by me into my checking account with Bank of America.
I've never had overdraft protection with my bank because my checkbook is always balanced and I don't overdraft. Thanks Bank of America for treating me like a customer, they dropped all the overdraft charges against me because it isn't hard to see that I am a responsible person and my payment record is proof of this. Countrywide and the employee directly responsible for this misuse of power can kiss my #%* because the actions taken by Countrywide were in no way warranted. Next time have a little tact Countrywide.

Not good to do business with!
It started a few months ago, when my 3yr. ARM adjusted and I looked to them because they were my current lender to do a Refinance. I worked with someone who kept telling me that everything looked o.k. and that the deal would be no problem. They asked me what the home would appraise for and I gave them a figure. Paid for an appraisal, and was told it came in right where I said it would.
After being told it would close by months end, then the next I started to get nervous. One day I emailed my rep, only to have my email be returned undeliverable. Called and got some other person on the line and was informed my Rep was no longer there. When I asked about my loan, they said it had been denied as the appraisal came in too low. I again asked what it came in at and they gave me the SAME figure I had told them in the beginning. After some research, they told me that the Rep I was working with had submitted it to Underwriting saying the value was $30,000.00 higher than what I told them.
Now I am scrambling to find another lender... DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE!!!

Poor service!
I pray no one else is having the problems we are with countrywide home loans. They are saying we are 2 months behind and that we owe 1,300.00 by november 7th or they will take action to foreclose on us. We are current and have been. When you call them you get a different person and each one tells something different or they transfer you until you get tired and hang up. I have already wrote our attorney general for our state and i would advise everyone to go online find the address for your own state attorney general office and write them the consumer protection agency is now involved trying to help us please write them. So far they have been very nice and constantly keep us informed by mail. Just give them time to reply to you. Don't let countrywide get by with this. they are crooked we are even thinking of filing a lawsuit don't get frustrated and give in. Good luck to everyone and if you write your attorney general tell them in detail everything i did it was about 3 pages long and somebody read it!
Beware!

Fraud and cheating!
Due to a promised Bonus, that never came through, we had to file chapter 13, from falling behind on our payments. We made regular payments, and were on a payment schedule with them. Then our house caught on fire. The insurance company issued us a check, to pay the contractor. The check had our name on it, and Countrywide too. We were told by Countrywide to sign the check, and they would pay the contractor directly, when the check cleared. The check cleared, and they kept our insurance money. We now are owners of a house, that is UNBELIEVABLE. Its completely gutted inside, and now have no money to do the repairs. I have 3 kids that no longer have a roof over their heads, and have to live with my mother. Thanks Countrywide... Christmas is going to be fun!!!

Transaction killers
Beware of this company. They ruined my real estate transaction with a bait and switch method.
BEWARE OF THE CON ARTISTS TOM O DONOHUE AND HIS MANAGER AT THE SAN FERNANDO, CA BRANCH, EDWARD BANUELOS, BOTH ARE SNAKES.
They informed me that all was well until the day before escrow closed, and then they changed my loan completely. They then lied and said that they had informed of the changes all along. Thank goodness I found a lender to close the deal, but it was by a slim margin as my seller was pissed off. It cost me money.
RUN DON'T WALK TO ANOTHER LENDER. THESE GUYS WILL LIE, STALL, AND WASTE YOUR TIME. THEY WILL KILL YOUR HOME PURCHASE.

Fraud and deceptive business practices!
Countrywide had my credit card info on a Master Card that was to be paid off. They used that information to bill me $300.00 for an upfront processing fee without my knowledge or consent. I had given the credit card information to Tony Kwong for a payoff. When I called that office in Roseville,California Mr. Shores said he would have it credited unless I wanted to go forward with the loan,in which case they would credit it on the loan itself. So, here I am paying interest for a couple of weeks on $300.00 that should have never been charged on my Master card in the first place. My paperwork did reflect the $300.0 discount as Mr Shores stated that they would do. That was only after I told him I was reporting fraud on the part of Countrywide. Then when the notary arrived with my paperwork there was a pre payment penalty attached to the loan, one that lasts for 5 years.I was never told about this pre payment penalty even though I was in contact with 3 different people at Countrywide in Roseville.J.D.Powers and Associates may rate Countrywide aS #1 in Customer Satisfaction but I personally don't see how. I have dealt with numerous Mortgage companies and banks when seeking a real estate loan and Countrywide has been the only one to be deceitful and to try and get away with an act of fraud.

Late fee rip-off!
This complaint is against Countrywide Home Loans. Countrywide posts there payments late to intentionally charge customers a large late fee. This has been done to me numerous times. I would warn anyone against taking a loan with Countryside Home Loans. There practices are deceptive and rip off the customer. Anyone taking a home loan - Stay far away from Countrywide Home loans. They will not post their payments timely even when provided with bank information.
The company address is:
Countrywide Home Loans

This consumer complaint will save other customers from having the same problems.
