Lease Contract Violation
After making 48 lease payments on my 2005 Mazda 3, I wanted to purchase the car. Mazda Credit said that they could not accept the Purchase Option Price of $8, 344 but if I wanted to purchase I should go to the Mazda dealership that leased me the car. However, since I no longer lived in Indianapolis, I was told that I should go to the closest Mazda dealer in Las Vegas. I went to Courtesy Imports of Henderson, Nevada on March 28. Rather than charge the "Purchase Option at the End of Lease Term" price - they did some financal hokus-pokus and charged me $9, 995 -- a 20% mark-up!! My brother left a message with the Finance Manager, Kem Lest, who never called him back. Likewise, he also called Courtesy's owner, Jim Mooradian. He never called back, but my brother finally caught him a few days later. During their phone conversation, Jim Mooradian, told him "We have a right to make a decent profit." My brother explained that on a car they owned that may be "reasonable" but NOT on a lease purchase - where the Lease clearly states the Purchase Option Price. Jim Mooradian was very cavalier about the whole thing and said he would call me but never did. We sent a certified letter demanding reimbursement but no calls or correspondence have been made by Courtesy. We contacted Mazda Credit about this issue. They said that since the car was paid in full, they could offer NO help. We also contacted Mazda USA, but the representative said that "Mazda has no control over the individual dealerships and could NOT offer any assistance, that we should take up the matter directly with the Dealership." Conclusion: Be VERY careful of leasing (or even buying from Mazda). Mazda FORCES you to a Dealership but then says "We have NO control over what a Mazda Dealership does." I really like my Mazda 3 but because of this issue, I'll probably look at other brands when buying another car.
