This is one company that knows when they're ripping their customers off!
After dealing with Cox for 5 months now I am absolutely ready to tear my hair out. They are the only available cable company in my area and they know that and take full advantage of that.
Since we've moved in, we've had 5 service calls to our house in which they never solved our problem (we finally just gave up). Whenever a program has a white background it gets fuzzy, it cuts out to a black screen for full minutes at a time and sometimes just doesn't record altogether. All of the above renders our television unwatchable. We cannot get through one program without missing a crucial part.
As for our internet, well I'm lucky I caught a break to type this right now! I had to get an iPhone to ensure internet at all times!
After receiving our last bill we felt totally robbed. Over $200 for a month! We don't even subscribe to HBO, Showtime, etc. After reviewing the bill we realized they had the audacity to charge us almost $100 to send someone to our house to try and fix our problems with our television. Essentially that means that they could become millionaires by giving people faulty service and then charging to come "fix" it.
We went right to Cox and told the associate who told us that the only way we could try to have something like this reversed would be to call. So, we can't get this taken care of at the store, but if we wait on hold 20 minutes that's a sure fire way. We wound up calling and after battling for awhile they removed the charge.
It's been 2 days and our bill is just under a week late of being paid. We wanted to ensure that we got our refund before we gave them any more money. I wake up today and our internet and cable are shut off! A few days late on a payment that was in the process of being altered?
These people are thieves and they are well aware of giving poor customer service. The only other option would be to get satellite. Don't ever use Cox! It's a nightmare!

Stoled my phone number from CenturyLink
I had phone service with CenturyLink and paid my bills on time. On May 5, I discovered that some of my friends were not able to call me. On May 6th, I phoned CenturyLink and asked them why my phone was not receiving phone calls and they said someone called in April 28 and requested the phone service be turned over to Cox. I NEVER AUTHORIZED IT. I telephoned Cox, and they said they did not have an order to switch the service over to them.
So, on Monday, May 9th I phoned CenturyLink and asked them why they cannot restore my phone service. They explained they did not know why, however, they told me to call Voice Repair. I went back and forth between Customer Service, Voice Repair and could not get any satisfaction. I must have been on the phone for 3 hours. On Tuesday, I phoned CenturyLink again trying to find out how to get my phone ported back from Cox to
CenturyLink. I was switched back and forth for 4 hours to no avail. On Tuesday afternoon around 3:40, my neighbor tried to help and called CenturyLink, they promised to help, but never restored my service. On Wednesday morning, the phone service was restored. I have been paying for Unlimited Long Distance and cannot use it. I keep calling CenturyLink and they say they have no idea what the problem is. WHY?
I did phone Cox back in February at which time I was thinking of changing over to them. I cancelled that request on March 3. They told me it was cancelled. One week to ten days after that my phone was not working. I phoned CenturyLink at that time and was told I must have requested my phone service be switched to Cox. I told them I did, but I cancelled on March 3. They did restore my phone service and gave me a $25 credit. Now, after two months Cox tried to switch me over without my permission --- this is against the law.
Is there a lawyer who would take this case Pro Bono. Or, what other options to I have?

Worst customer service
We were billed twice for the same transaction (not even billed the same amount).
We had to call them three times to rectify.
We were made to feel like criminals not valued customers (typical of large corporates).
They refused to call us back after us asking them!!!

Poor customer service
My internet has been out for about 5 days now (trouble in the area). I work from home and need the internet to make a living. I have called each day (several times a day) and recieve NO information other than there is a problem in the area. When I ask to speak to someone who knows how long this may last or what the actual problem is I get the same old run-around...we don't know, there is no one to talk to, there is no information...etc.
I cannot believe that no one at Cox can tell me that widget #43 is broken and a new one is coming from Tibet and will be here in 3 days...I wish JD Powers would ask me what I think of Cox's customer service!!!

Billing fraud
So between jan-feb my roommate tries to order pay per view movies 15 total. Each time he tries to watch them it comes up with service unavailable so he tries back at a later time with same results.
The bill comes and I have $152.25 bill for 15 movies 4 different movies in all which we never was able to watch. The bill comes in April for movies which where tried to be ordered in jan-feb?
I contact their customer service and they say it was ordered from the cable box and their records show that the movie was sent to the box, and since I did not call them the moment it happened that we paid for a movie and did not get it the charges would stay. They also threw out a BS comment on why it took 2 months for the charges to show up on my bill. "The receiver can down load the information on purchased movies at any time, though it normally does this nightly". In this case it took 2 months to pull?
So to pretty much cox is charging me 152.25 for 15 pay per view movies i never watched between jan-feb and tried to bill me 2 months later in April for it.

Service refusal
I've tried and tried to get a second DVR from Cox but they refuse saying since I don't subscribe to all their services I'm only entitled to 1. So I purchased one my self, the same make and model as the one I have from Cox. When I went to install it, I received a code saying it had to be registered with my cable provider. I called Cox and after a while the Cox help desk told me that since I didn't get my DVR from them I could not use it.
How in the world do they have the right to refuse me service for something I bought. What's next if you don't buy their TVs you can't watch shows on their network. Maybe next it will be computers on their internet. Thank goodness they haven't figured out how to stop Vonage routers from working.
What's the difference between a DVR and a video recorder?
