Car repair nightmare
We brought our car for service at Cranberry Auto Center in December for a few things fixed and an inspection. Dan, the owner, agreed that they would do the job 100% on Green Apple barter system. They checked the car and said they needed to order parts from the dealership which would take 3-4 days. I talked to Lou, one of the mechanics who estimated it would be about $1, 100 to fix everything and get the inspection done and they could do it in one day. I called 4 days later to schedule. Dan said he didn't know if the parts had come in and Lou would call me back. After no one called 2 days later, I called again, same story, Lou would call back. Called again 2 days later, same response, have to talk to Lou. After I had left 4 messages for Lou over about 10 days, I didn't call while traveling the next week. When I returned, I called again, and Lou finally came to the phone. He told me that since "they hadn't heard from me, the parts were sent back to the dealership." I was mad, but politely asked when they could get them reordered. Lou apologized and said hed reorder that day and call me when they came in. I didn't hear anything so 3 days later, I called, got Lou on phone and he told me the parts would be in the next day. I tried to reschedule but was told they couldn't until the next week. We dropped the car off the night before, and when I called early afternoon the next day, they hadn't even looked at the car yet, and asked me to call back end of day. When I called they said they didn't finish so we had to leave it another day. At end of the next day, a Candace told me the car was ready and all repairs were made, except they couldn't finish inspection because the car had to be run for 30-40 miles. Then we could bring it back and they would complete the emissions test. She explained that the inspection and emissions were included in the bill, so there would be no charge when we returned. I asked how much, and was put on hold. Then she said "Dan says we can only do 50% on trade because there were so many Dealer parts." I said I was told originally that 100% would be on trade and at no point did anyone say otherwise. I asked what the total was, and she asked, "which barter company is that through?" After I said Green Apple, she again put me on hold, then came back and said the total was approx. $1, 650. I objected, not only that it was $500+ higher than originally quoted but that no one ever said anything about it being only 50% on trade! She said that without payment of $849.21 on credit card, we could not pick up the car. Needless to say I paid and picked up the car. Normally, I would not have returned, but since we were already charged for the emissions, we decided to. Then as soon as we drove away, we saw that the dashboard lights were not working, despite that they had ordered and installed a new dimmer switch, charging us approx $200. When I called to schedule emissions test, I explained dash lights still weren't working. I tried to get the car back the same week, but was told they were too busy and to try the next week. Then they said it took them a week to shovel their road clear from the big February snow storms. Finally, we dropped it off at night and Dan said he'd call the next day but he did not. When we called the next day, they hadn't gotten to the car and said it might be that afternoon or the next day, and they asked for the 3rd time what they were doing with the car. Two days later Candace called and said the check engine light was on so they had to run the car another 40-50 miles so they'd need another day. Then 2 days later we were told that since the car's stickers were expired, they needed to find a certified mechanic to drive the car. We kept calling, and they kept saying they still hadn't driven the car. Finally, 2 WEEKS after we brought the car for an emissions test, they notified us that the test was done. Again, I was speaking to Candace and she said, "now what barter service was that under", and I explained we had already paid for the inspection and emissions. She put me on hold, and then said, "well we have to charge you again for the inspection and emissions because it was more than 5 days since we performed the original inspection." I explained that no one, at ANY point, ever told us that we only had 5 days to reschedule, and that I had tried to reschedule it quickly and they were too busy, then they hadn't cleared the snow. Then Dan got on the phone and repeated that they had to re-do the inspection so it was going to be a charge. I again explained noone told me about the 5 day thing, and so he finally said okay we'll just charge you for the emissions. I explained that I had already paid for the emissions too, and he said to bring a receipt to prove it. During the 2 weeks the car sat there, Lou called to say they couldn't figure out what was wrong with the dash lights, even though he replaced and billed me for a new dimmer switch, but never checked after installing it that it didn't fix it, and so I basically wasted my money! This was not only a case where we were blatantly mislead (100% barter agreement), but the utter incompetency of this business is one of the worst I've experienced in my 50 years. Needless to say, we won't ever return to this horrible business.
