Auto-enrollment in a service
I was admittedly in a hurry to purchase a combined three agency credit report since we were thinking about refinancing our mortgage. I never realized I was also enrolling in a trial credit watch program with Trans Union and billed monthly by CreditReport.com. When I called I was told by a person who was very versed at handling this sort of complaint. He immediately went to the fact that when I clicked on "I agree with the terms and conditions" that I was also signing up for a monthly enrollment. I told the guy I didn't think it was ethical to hide the enrollment. He told me it wasn't hidden and was on the Creditreport.com home page. I checked it out after our conversation and it is not explained that I would be automatically signed up for a credit watch program. It just said it was available. Also, I've had changes to my credit report within the past 3 months and was not notified of even one change. I once signed up for a credit watch service for a year, and not once during that year did I ever receive one notification!
My specific complaint: That the enrollment isn't presented as an option. If you just go there to purchase a credit report you're automatically enrolled and you have to do some pro-active canceling, if you realize it at all. Nor is it spelled out in their TV commercial.
Evidently they can't get enough customers based on the value of the service on its own, and has to "fool" people into enrollment. This isn't a good business practice, nor is it ethical.

cancelling
I have tried to go to the site www.creditreport.com/contact_us.asp and have NOT put a period at the end and still I don't get into any web page with 3 questions and a phone number! Can't someone just post the phone #??? This is extremely frustrating!!!
