Cricket broadband Reviews

NOT unlimited
i got cricket wireless service about 4 months ago. near the end of march 2010 i noticed my download speed was EXTREMELY SLOW!!!. i called cricket and was told i went over my usage limit on my UNLIMITED plan. They told me i was only allowed 5 gigabytes on my UNLIMITED plan, they said i used 19 gigabytes and could not get back my download speed until i paid back those gigabytes (they said i have to wait 4 months without using the internet, and pay my bill every month for 4 months to give them back their 5 gigabytes/month that was included in my UNLIMITED plan). The person i talked to kept pushing their $60/month plan(like i am going to fall for that "give us more money, u can have your internet back")HOW IS CRICKET STILL IN BUSINESS!!!

What rebate??
In December, as a Christmas gift, my husband purchased a new laptop, and Cricket Broadband for me. With the understanding, that a $50 rebate would follow, as long as the proper paperwok was filed, the bill was paid, and the proper amount of time (45 days) was waited. Here we are looking at the beginning of April, and still no rebate. To get ahold of anyone in person is crazy...they don't answer...and then when they do answer, all I hear is it is in the mail...On feb 25th, I recieved an email stating that the time had been done with and that the rebate was being mailed out...more that a month later, and still nothing...HOW DO THEY GET AWAY WITH THIS???

Defective Product
Bought Cricket on a Tuesday at 5pm. By 8pm we realized that the modem would not download the cricket program. Called technical support and after an hr we realize that the modem was defective. Called Luiz back at the Herndon Store and he said he could not help us and to go to the corporate store. Then next morning after driving 40 min and standing 30 min in line. We were told that they could help activate the warranty for a fee. We were not going to pay a fee for a product that came to us defective. So we said we would like to cancel. She said that we would have to go back to the store that we bought it from to cancel the service. We told her that Luiz would not take it back. She called him and she told us it was taken care of and he would take it back. So we drove all the way back to Herndon. After taking the bar code sticker back off the rebate form, it ripped. Luiz now said that he could not take the modem back because it was defective, and not like-new. We argued that the receipt said that the PHONE (modem) was to be in like-new status, not the bar code sticker. And that we just needed to return it with the receipt, it does not say anything about the bar code sticker. We called the female back at the corporate store and she said that she would take care of it by making some calls. Amazingly she did not call is back the next day (day 2). Finally we call her Friday and she said we could not cancel the service for the full return because we were past the 3 day rule. WHAT!!! We have been trying to return the modem before the first 24 hrs past!

So we put in a block payment at the bank, and actually canceled the card. Also once the cricket program was put on our computer (the female did it at the corporate store) we got all these virus' trying to get us to buy a virus protection.

false advertisment/ripoff
Cricket claims to have broadband speeds on their blazing fast 3g network. The speeds are anything but blazing fast. Youtube doesnt even load, page tranfers are not as fast they should be, give their advertisement. I was overcharged on the sales tax and the activation fee. I bought the modem and called the next day to ask if i could bring it back, they said i could but said the activation charges was non-refundable. I am going to bug the crap out of their customer service to try to get it back. If i don't get it back, i am out 30 bucks.

It is time that people take a stand against these types of rip offs. I would encourage everyone on here that has been ripped off by cricket to report them to the federal trade commission, the BBB, and let them know.

bottom line CRICKET BROADBAND SUCKS

they steal your money
I go into the store ask if wireless internet is available in my town (1 town away) the clerk said yes. I bought the droadband card got it home and it did not work. I tried to call the store & the number on the reciept was incorrect! I was on hold for over 1 hr to try to get someone in customer support through the 800# only to be told service is NOT available in my town. By then the store I purchased it from was closed. They close at 6pm I got customer care after 7pm. So promptly after work the next day I go to return it and inform the same clerk service is not available I want my money back, he only gives me $50.00 of the $75.00 I paid yesterday!!! I asked about the other $25 he said the activation fee is non refundable. I asked how can it be activated if I never used it???! So he won't give me my money back. I call customer service and after speaking to four different people no one would do anything to refund my full price.
In my opinion they are very incompetent and nasty on the phone as well as in person.

I would not reccomend doing buisness with Cricket Wireless company unless you like being taken advantage of.

I filed a complaint with my bank because I used my charge to pay & currently the bank is in the proccess of disputing the $25.00 charge.

Defective items and shipping costs
I was solicited online to purchase a modem after recieving a popup while looking for a Cricket store.

The sales agent sold me a modem, overnight shipping and promised no automatic activation.

The modem did not arrive overnight, in spite of me being charged for overnight.
The modem would not activate, continued to show "activation failed" and was never initialized or used.
Automatic bill bay was setup for this defective item, and I was told I'd have to work this out with their escalation department.

In an attempt to return the item I called the number provided. I was told after being on hold I has called the wrong number, and could not be transferred I would need to call another number.

The second number I reached the "status order department" they stated they could only refund the cost of the modem. However they could not refund the shipping costs (in spite of it not arriving as paid for) could not refund the activation fee, in spite of it never being activated. And would be "unable to shoulder the costs of return shipping" I was told I could exchange, return the modem for a refund at any Cricket Store. This not being true, I was forced to go to a post office, wait in line, pay for shipping insurance and delivery confirmation.

To resolve this, I was told I would need to call a third number. I called the number given, and it was a different number but ended up at the original department I called at the beginning of this day. They were the "order department" and after being unable to help me, provided me with the number of the "status order department" where I had been after the second phone call.

My time, money and patience are worth something, and that results in my hope that you never do business with Cricket online after reading this.

Dial up grade Broadband
What a joke - aka Cricket broadband. In 1993 I had a 28K dial up that was faster that Cricket Broadband. Lucky if I get 3-8 kb and worse is you get the opportunity to "download" something several times before you get a "clean copy" or don't get disconnected before a complete download. Tried to download a Microsoft update 7 time before "finally" and of course as a retarded Tech told me tonight I was "over the limit". Did anyone hear the Ad 'Unlimited". Read where a Corp Donkey told the press they don't "limit" the speed if you go over the 5Gb...flat out lie - wouldn't be bad but I can used up that much trying to get maybe 200M download before it disconnects...which is OFTEN. If there is a limit, then why is it as slow the 1st of the month when I haven't used it yet? No wonder Cricket almost went bankrupt a few years ago with their cell service? Couldn't keep connected with that either...dropped them finally Seems the FTC or someone would look into their practices or false advertising...Too bad they don't go out of business then I'd pay more for something that worked 24/7 without a hitch...Yeah, I'm going to drop it...and wish everyone else did just to put them out of business.
Oh, the rebate took 9 weeks - AFTER I called almost everyday and heard every excuse why I hadn't received it...oh and on a debit card, not check or something I could put in my pocket...ripoff is the bottom line.

lack of service
i purchased the new cricket broadband modem, the green and black one, for $125.00 total, including activation.
the first month was free, but after the month expired, i had to pay $46.00, six dollars over the $40.00 a month i signed up for.
at first i thought the service was good, but then i noticed that down load speeds had gone from 50-70 kbps down to a measley 9 to 13 kbps. i used every antivirus program available as freeware but still had the problem. i went to my local cricket sales location, and was informed that i was over my limit of 5 gb for the month. which i thought was funny because i signed up for cricket unlimited broadband. the sales rep said and i quote "the service is unlimited, we didn't cut it off when you went over the 5 gigabyte limit, we just slowed you down". "if you want to upgrade to our premium package of $70.00 per month you will have faster downloads and up to 10 gigabytes limit". so i paid the $78.00 and when i got home i truly had faster speed. the file that was down loading at the time at 11-12 kbps started downloading at 150kbps. i thought that was great!! the next day i was down to 35-40 kbps, and the day after that i was back to crickets magic range of 9 to 12 kbps. There is no way on earth that i used up 10 gigabytes in two days. i checked the usage log on the cricket device and it read at 3.27 gigs, after i added up all the bytes. as soon as i can i will be quitting the cricket service. i am thinking about switching to cincinnati bell zoomtown. if anyone has zoomtown please e-mail me your thoughts of that service. thank you. [email protected] put zoomtown-user in subject line. thank you.

restrictive use of rebate
I purchased the broadband from cricket August 17, 2009 with an $50 rebate attached. I figure I will get the broadband with cash and get the rebate back to pay a bill later. First, I was accidentally given the wrong rebate form and had to fix that. Second, after 8 weeks of waiting for the rebate I got in touch with the company via e-mail. Come to find out, the rebate can take up to 10 to 12 weeks to come and you get a visa card. My biggest problem is, why do I have to spend my money on merchandise with the rebate card instead of being able to take the money off of the card and spend it as I want. I actually had a bill due and was trying to pay it, but it didn't work. To get money back in the form of my rebate, I had to buy a friend merchandise off of the card and in return get cash. The rebate was nice, but more of a pain in the ass than it was worth. If I pay cash, can I be able to take cash off of the card or use it as I please. Too many restrictions for a rebate is not worth it sometimes.

payment and rebate fraud
We went into cricket and got a cricket broadband modem which came with a $50 rebate. We recieved a printout of our account number, phone, etc everything we were needing to fill out the rebate form and send it out. That night we filled it out and put it in the mail. A few weeks later we get a letter in the mail saying that our rebate was declined because they had already recieved a rebate request for the esn and account number for another offer. We had never used cricket before and immediately called them. Turns out the printout that we had recieved had partially wrong information on it. The account number on the printout was different from the account number on our bill which was the one they turned up needing to correct the issue. Supposedly our rebate is in the mail. Then the following month I went to pay the bill on line using a check, why did they ask me for my ssn number along with my drivers license. I refuse to put my ssn on there to pay a bill especially when they already have the DL number. They cant ask for your SSN. I got an uneasy feeling and just sent my husband to pay at the store. That's crazy to ask for someones SSN to pay by check. Never will I.
