I would have put names, addresses and phone numbers if they would provide them but they keep changing. My husband and I are in the process of moving to Ohio from Texas and hired Cross America Movers to do so. We were provided a quote for 2071.00 with a 50 dollar deposit and 50% due at pick up. When they arrived 8 hours late and loaded the truck they then told my husband he would have to pay half, 2100 dollars, at that time, which is more than the original quote for "being over weight". Now, mind you, they were saying our overeages were nearly double what the quote from the itemized list was. But, they had another homes belongings in the truck as well. My husband wrote a check feeling he had to because they already had our belongings on the truck and once I became aware of this I stopped payment on that check because this was not our original agreement. My husband spoke with the contact there and she agreed and we were to pay the original 50% of the original quote. Then, the company ran the 2100 dollars from my check card on file WITHOUT authorization! Then, we made multiple attempts to contact this company and many of the numbers were no longer working.
Once we finally got a hold of the company, the supervisor verbally threatened my husband with physical harm and reported the only way we would get our belongings were to go to a Chase bank and put 60% of the "new" quote in their account. Then, once I made it clear my bank was investigating them for fraud due to an unauthorized use of my check card, they reported they reversed the charge and it would be replaced within 72 hours (which had drained our available funds) but, we had to wire them money within 24 hours or they would place our belongings up for auction.
This company would not provide any names, including the supervisor who threatened my husband, stating they did not have to and when we called back they would state that the person we previously spoke to did not work there. The supervisor would not get back on the phone and the owners were in a "meeting". We plan to file multiple complaints against this company and I hope anyone who reads this certainly will think twice wityh doing "business" with this company if that is what they call it. It is stressful enough to move, especially with a 2 year old and a one year old, who have no belongings at this point. I hope this saves someone the trouble.
