Adoption CSPCA
When I was looking for my first dog, I knew I wanted to adopt due to over population. I went to the Fresno SPCA and found a small litter of puppies that I fell in love with. I asked about the adoption process and the worker told me that they are not up for adoption for three more days. I asked if it was possible to put a hold on one, a down payment, etc. They said no. I was told that I had to come back every morning to see if the animal was still there until it was available for adoption. They also told me that there were other people who wanted these puppies as well. This is why they told me to come back every morning. For three days, I came to the SPCA right after opening. I was never able to hold the puppies, just interact through the glass. I had even named the pup that I wanted in my head. They were playful and full of energy. On the third day when I came back, the puppies were gone. I asked if they were already adopted together. The workers told me that the puppies were not going to go up for adoption. When I asked why, they said the puppies were anemic. As soon as I heard this, I knew the puppies had been put down. They reused to give any information about the puppies or how long it would take for them to mend. This is why I came to my conclusion. They told me that I should just look around and see if there were any other animals that sparked my interest. I looked a round for a while and I did find a sweet pup that needed a home. I didn't want to go through a long process like I had with the other pup, so I decided to proceed with the adoption of the new pup I found. Before I even made it out of the room I found the pup in, the worker noticed a snotting from the pup. The worker took the pup form my arms and told me that I couldn't adopt the dog because it was sick and walked away. I left the SPCA after coming everyday for a week without a pet. I was heartbroken. Three animals that I wanted to adopt were most likely killed off. The anemic puppies were an easy fix. I don't know about the other. Regardless, the staff could have been more understanding to a young person looking to find a pet. If questions are asked, they should take the time to actually answer. If an animal is sick, they should have disclosure or some type of agreement that protects themselves. I am quite sure that if something was wrong wit my original pup, my vet could have alleviated the issue promptly, but I was never given the opportunity. Again, is breaks my heart that most likely, those pups were all simply killed off since it would have been easier and cheaper to do so verses trying to heal them.
