CURRY'S HAVE LET ME DOWN AGAIN
In September 2009 I spent £1200 in Currys on a gas cooker, a laptop and accessories. The grill on the cooker would not stay lit for more than a few moments and had to be repaired twice in the first year under warranty. The cooker is now 18 months old and exactly the same fault has developed again but Curry's refuse to repair it because I did not buy an extended warranty. The manager at Curry in Cambridge told me that as it was an ongoing problem I would be able to have it fixer an no cost to me, I just needed to call the warranty department, which I did and was told as I had not bought an extended warranty they would not help. I then called customer service and explained the problem to them, I was assured I would be put through to the appropriate department to help me and ended up back in the warranty department who again told me they could not help. I again called customer service and was told that as the warranty had expired no repair would be made. I explained that this fault was an ongoing problem that started within the first year and asked to speak to a manager. This was refused, I was told that a manager would back her up so it would be no use speaking to one. I then asked for Currys head office telephone number and again this was refused for the same reason. I then asked for a member of the Know How team to phone me as I have had reason to complain to them before. I was later phoned by the Know How team who told me they would not help, that I could get an engineers report at my own expense and send it to Currys and see if they would repair it. I just can not afford this. I feel a cooker should last more than 18 months and explained I felt I had rights under the Sale of Goods Act. I was then told "well, Currys has rights too". With the laptop we bought an extended warranty and paid £199 for protection until 2012. The lettering on the keyboard began to wear off within months and it is causing problems when typing. I spoke to a Currys agent instore and was told this was fair wear and tear and not covered by the warranty! Are they allowed to get away with this? It seems like no matter what I do they are trying to find a way out of repairing or even offering a solution. Their customer service representatives were rude and unhelpful and it was a nightmare being passed from one person to the other as each time you are put on hold and back into the queueing system. I have spent thousands of pounds in Currys over the years and I feel I deserve better treatment than this. I will never shop there again. I know I am not alone as I have just seen hundreds similarof complaints about Currys on the intenet. How can they get away with treating their customers like this?
