After signing on with service magic as a new contractor just getting started, I was excited. I started receiving leads right away. Some legit, some the customer didn't realize what they were doing. So that is OK. Then I realized I was being charged by Service Magic for these questionable leads and confused customers. Then I received a call from a woman who said that she was immediately sent me and she did not suggest she be sent to anyone. The woman knew I was being charged for a lead she did not ask for. $50.00 by the way. I realized I was being charged for a number of leads that did not pan out and all for $50 a pop. There were leads that I called and the people had no idea what I was talking about and others where the phone # didn't even exist.
Then I got a lead for a man wanting to remodel an old one bedroom home. He wanted it to be simple and cheap of course. But, when the job got going he then wanted top of the line everything and did not want to pay any more. Then he wouldn't hold up his end of the deal by taking care of simple things like making sure property markers were in place. He didn't want to pay someone to do it. The County inspectors were already annoyed by him. So that held up the work progress. So I ASKED him if he wanted to get another contractor to do the job. His reply was to call service magic and tell them I quit in the middle of the job, when in fact I didn't. They went with it without talking to me first. I actually thought I was on the job still until I went to my supplier to order lumber and the supplier told me. Service Magic was not there for me at all!
In all I was forced to close shop before I even got a chance. They need to interview their clients like they interview us with details!
So I am here to let all contractors beware.
