Technical and Customer Support
This company's technical support employs the use of cheap foriegn labor that operate out of a manual. I had for different techs work on my computer and it ended up being worse that when they started. The company's customer service and billing departments are a joke as the phones are answered by a recording that sends you to a message que which is always full..This company is a definite loser.

Free anti-virus protetion scam
CyberDefender's free software protection is definately a scam. Don't download it. After it scanned my computer it said I had 43 spyware infetcions. and then wanted to charge me to remove them. It probably put them on. I think I made this same mistake a long time ago and ended up with spyware. I think it was a free offer to check for spyware, and after the so-called spyware scan I had problems that were being caused by spyware. I got Spybot, a reputabale company, to remove them.

I had been having technical problems with my security and wanted backup security, at least until I could get the problem solved. But instead I got spyware that I don't think I had. Of course, I can't prove it absolutely; So if you have been caught in the CyberDefenders trap, be sure to scan for spyware and removal.

I did not realize that this was the same company with a slightly different approach. But once I hit the "Remove " button and saw what they were up to, I recognized them and their tricky offer. I had no problem uninstalling it by going to my Control Panel and checking Add or Remove Programs to remove it. When their survey came up asking why, I checked, "I wanted it free". Anything else will get you into more trouble.

CyberDefender is a disreputable, unscrpulous company. I wonder if BBB doesn't have major compaints about them.

spyware can't uninstall
Now I'm getting nervous. I posted a comment and it's not here. Someone said they managed to get the program off their machine. I was stupid enough to buy the program hoping to keep my computer safe. I see my original complaint now so I'll cut to the chase as best I can. The program quits after 1-2 days. They offer a 30-day "no questions asked" guaranty. After 5 days, I called to cancel. I spent 1 1/2 hours trying to get a refund saying that I wasn't satisfied and that should be enough. No way. I told them the program had quit twice and they repaired it twice. That was all they were willing to do--repair it again--no refund. I had used the tech support part of the program to ask them to repair it twice. Their records show they helped me with viruses--nonsense---they put them on my machine. They kept me on the phone for 3 hours with nonsense technobabble while they did who-knows what to my computer during those supposed repairs. They finally agreed to a refund if they could do a system restore back to the point of purchase. All I know is the most blatant damge is repaired, that now I can download only occasionally, can't install plugins or anything else, can't listen to music, and they gave me back the Trojans they supposedly removed. Mainly I can visit websites and email. That's all.

They left a file on my computer. One day, I clicked uninstall and let the computer work on it for 3 hours. Then the Cyberdefender wizard popped up and unistalled the program.

A couple of days later, after cancelling, they claimed my account was still active and sent me instructions on how to repair it. Worse, they reinstalled not only the original file I spent 3 hours ridding myself of, but also a toolbar, without my authorization. I try every day to uninstall both, but the Cyberdefender Wizard arrives immediately and tells me the programs are uninstalled. The're still there. I got a new firewall and found that info about me was going through the firewall to cyberdefender. I call that spyware. I'm now waiting for the 3d promised refund.

My bank has always been good about helping me with this sort of problem, but they closed this case so fast it made my head spin. I posted a comment here because someone actually succeeded at uninstalling the program and I left my email address hoping he could tell me how, but it's gone. If he or anyone can help, my email address is [email protected]. Make sure I see cyberdefender complaint board or I won't open the email. This company advertises everywhere, but Mozilla Firefox rates them yellow--caution. I say RUN! Don't even think about trying even their trial version. Read the posts of those who did. For the record, this is a sugar-coated version of what they put me through and it's not over yet.

cannot uninstall, installed a toolbar without asking
I heard Cyberdefender advertised on the radio so I thought I'd atleast check it out. I'm always looking at possible ways to keep up with the computer hackers, etc. It was go to freepcdiagnosis.com and so I go there and hit the free download and scan button. Should be download and "scam" button. Anyway, it came up that there were several things on my computer. I do have Norton Antivirus and Spybot on my computer and do checks 1-3 times a week usually. Anyway, I did some checking and found that Spybot didn't like them because they installed a toolbar without permission. I checked and sure enough, here's this Cyberdefender toolbar up there. I tried to uninstall Cyberdefender but have not been able to do so. I'm worried that they are doing more harm than good. They should at the very least let you know they are installing a toolbar and let you decide if you want it and also give clear instructions on how to get Cyberdefender uninstalled on your computer. This is the kind of stuff I'm trying to battle. Please someone let me know how to get this off.

scam
I had the same problem as the other complaint here. DO NOT DOWNLOAD! Once you download it and run the scan, you have to pay for it before it will remove the threats. When I used control panel to uninstall, I got a dialog box asking me why I want to uninstall. One of the checkboxes was "I wanted it for FREE" so I tried that just to see what happened. The rest was a bunch of BS and it took time to finally get the whole thing off of my computer (I hope/think). It's a scam that locks you into a lot of time to get rid of.

Don't use
I downloaded cyberdefender from a freeware site (yea- I know, you get what you pay for). I ran it and it found LOTS of problems that Windows LiveCare didn't. HOWEVER, this freeware only identifies "problems". You have to register and pay to remove these mysterious problems. Here's where it gets fun. If you decline to pay, it becomes a "virus warning" popup. I tried to uninstall but it didn't work. But boy that popup sure was working! I tried to remove it in control panel add/remove programs and THAT wouldn't work. Finally I went into program files and removed all files and folders that it would let me remove. I was able to disable the program so that it's not *** me off every 30 seconds, but it took an hour of diligent folder searching, etc. to get rid of it. It seems to me that CyberDefender antivirus is just plain vindictive when you decline to buy the software.
