I took my prescription for a controlled substance to a Walgreens Pharmacy, the script was for the generic of Adderall. I have taken this medication for two years for my ADHD. I never run out of this medication before the date of refill, except last month. The reason, the top of the medication bottle came off in my car and the medication spilled onto the floor.
was able to save all but 10 capsules. The reason I am going into such detail about going to this pharmacy 2 days before my script would be filled normally, is that the employee asked me if I had any of the prescription left. I had no reason to be untruthful, so I said no, I ran out because of the medication spill within my vehicle and the 10 capsules beyond saving.
This young man typed for a long time, apparently documenting that I ran out of this controlled substance before it could be refilled. Then advised me my insurance would not refill my perscription for TWO more days .
I returned to the same pharmacy two days later, thinking I would pick-up the already filled presciption. The young woman who took my information, and checked the computer for my file.
Did not say another word to me during the time she was reading my account file. Walked away from the window and was gone for about twenty minutes while I waited at the drive- up window.
She returned with my prescription told me how much the co-pay was, I payed the co-pay and left.
I was in a hurry, it was Friday, I just got my pay check, and had a number of stops to make, pay bills, ect... Never thought to look more carefully at my perscription.
Through the years I have had two roomates, and felt it safer to lock up my medication in the trunk of my car and not to leave even the over the counter medications laying around at home. Today, three days later I took my third dose of medication, and finally looked at the bottle of medication. It looked like it was only half full, the bottle was tall and I thought I must be mistaken. I counted the capsules and found ( 27 ) capsules missing.
I knew no one but myself has been in contact with my presciption since the time it left the pharmacy. I was also aware that now that I had a note in my file at the pharmacy, that I ran out of the script earlier than I was suppose to, things would look very questionable on my part.
But I was so angry that a trusted professional pharmacy employee would do such a thing. I called the pharmacy and asked for the doctor currently working in the pharmacy. I advised her I was not expecting to receive any medication, for I realized it was my mistake for not asking for a count to be performed by the pharmacy staff before I accepted the medication.
The need for a count had never passed through my mind.
Could you please let me know if there is any other contacts that should be made, in order to assure the situation is handled in a the manner in which it should be.
