Via the USPS I received a notification letter from Green Pacific Securities Inc., International Claims Department, that I had won in a lottery, the sum of $125, 000, and enclosed was a check drawn on JPMORGAN CHASE BANK, N.A., Grand Rapids, MI in the amount of $3, 980.00. The check looks authentic in every way. The letter's instuctions are to call a number in Canada for further instruction before depositing the check. The catch: You've deposited the check or cashed it, wired the money via Western Union to pay the taxes on the winnings, the check bounces and the money wired is long gone. Consequently, you are out the $3980.00 and who knows what kind of legal mess for having passed a counterfeit check. Not good.
