Debt Collection Reviews

Fraudulent debt collection
My husband received a letter from CRB with an account balance from First Charge Financial, CRB is collecting on their behalf. My husband spoke with either a Ms Owens or Mrs Cline, (I was hung up on 2 times) he told her that he does not have a VISA card or credit card in his name. She kept asking questions if this could be a debit card (NO), if he has a son living with us and could have used this (NO) so she eventually said she'd have to get the voice approval recording and would call back in 1 week. Hmmm, this should be interesting. Where are they coming up with these charges and how did they get my husband's name on this? It is in no way legitimate and how can they continue to harass people? Please advise what steps I can take to protect our credit and what rights do we have against scammers like this.

Deceptive Collection Practices and Spoofing
Received numerous calls from this company over the past few months. They deceptively use alternating area codes and phone numbers to disguise their identity on caller ID. They sometimes use a prerecord voice message via an IVR asking for you to "retrieve this message" by calling 949-812-4680, not supplying an 800 # as FDCPA requires. They leave voice messages and call with no messages multiple times on the same day, also an FDCPA violation. They do not identify themselves on the recordings or even when you call them, which again is another FDCPA violation. They also block their number when calling as unknown, and a feminine sounding man requests a call back referencing your property address, saying he (or she) has a question about the property address, deceptively alluding to other reasons for the call to prompt you to return the call. I called this company back and spoke with a man who had a heavy Hispanic accent, who was very rude and over talked me. He refused to identify the company or the reason for the calls, laughed and hung up on me. Not even an hour after my contact with this man my wife and I started receiving calls as if we were calling each other. I called our phone company and they confirmed we were victims of "Spoofing". It is a terrible coincidence that right after I called and spoke with this company my wife and I started receiving such calls; especially when this company calls us repeatedly using fictitious numbers that they program into their software in an effort to misrepresent themselves to get you to answer the phone. I also mailed them a certified letter demanding that they Cease and Desist to the address listed and it came back rejected. I called and spoke with the post office in that city zip code and the carrier confirmed that the company in question "refuses to accept certified mail". This is just another example of their deceptive practices. I have filed a complaint with the FTC, Attorney General, and other regulatory agencies. I URGE all of you to file such complaints with regulatory agencies so they will investigate this entity and bring them to justice. There is strength in numbers and we ALL need to fight back! I am not done with them, my attorney is looking into a class action suit as I have already had over 100 people provide my attorney with their contact information to join the class action. FIGHT BACK!!!

bad business practices
My husband and I have twice tried to get a loan modification or "loan retention" for almost 2 years! Each time I've provided the requested paperwork they send us a letter asking for the same thing! And when I contact them I get a different person each time. Someone from India and then a black woman who argued me down about the paperwork and kept asking when they were going to get their payment! We didn't know they were a collection debt company. Being from California and a state employee on 3 day a month furloughs I've tried to explain our situation and had documentation to back it up! They want us to get tired and frustrated so we'd give in and keep making payments that have created an even worse financial hardship than we've ever had. Please help us! I want to contact someone or some organization that I can make a complaint to ASAP!

Phone Harrassment
Continuous phone harrassment from representative trying to collect debt. The individual they are trying to contact does not live at my #. I asked that they stop calling and remove me from their contact list and the representative continued to aggressively question me in an offensive manager. I have no business connections to the company or its clients.

harassment
This company has repeatedly called my home trying to collect a debt I'm not sure I owe. They have threatened to call my supervisor and disclose personal information to her - Have threatened legal action such as a warrant for my arrest etc. They refuse to give me their first and last names of the name of the company, just the initals MRSI. The only way they will accept payment is a bank draft over the phone which I will not do. Tthey make all kinds of personal insults and degrade you and your family. HELP!

Harassment
20 years ago my identity was stolen and used to obtain a credit card from Citi Bank. $2000.00 was charged on this card. About 2 years ago I started getting threatening phone calls from Portfolio. I explained to them the situation and made it clear that the debt occurred almost 20 years ago. They have continued to leave messages several times a week on my phone and have left messages on my son's phone. They don't care that I was a victim 20 years ago. Nor do they seem to know that that the statute of limitations for debt recovery in UT is 4 years.

granishment and unfair debt collection process
Wolpoff and Abramson were given my debt by Grent Senca, and even thought I was very low income and proved it in front of the judge. They contiuned to pursue me taking from my checking account without notice and then granish my wages. I had been paying them regularly when I got a noticed that they had appeared to have been sold and I stop receiving any collection notices or payment coupons from them for 2 years then out of the blue the began granishing my wages.

Threatening and harassment
This firm called me and frightened me into sending them $1500 that they debited from my checking account. I found out later that this firm is questionable. I stopped further payments at my bank. They called me yesterday and threatened me. I asked that they send me a letter stating why they want further money from and they would not consent to do this. I feel that they have bilked me out of $1500 and I do not know if I will ever get this back. Is there any recourse that I can take against this firm?
