Dell Computer Corporation Reviews

They never do as promised
I ordered a computer December 17 2009, and I still waiting. Dell sent a mouse and computer case two days after I placed my order. And started billing me right away. I called dell and told them I don't need the case and mouse until I receive the computer. Now I am trying to return the case and mouse, I can't get to respond. Who knows when or if ever, I will receive the computer. When I talk to someone at Dell they never do as promised. My advice to anyone who wants to order a dell is don't.

Overcharged
Got a letter from Dell finance this week informing me that due to "past negative credit reporting" the new interest rate on my Dell "preferred" acount would now be raised to 29.99%. They also kindly informed me that I had the right to reject the change (in writing)though that would result in the closing of my account. They have joined the rush to wringing every dollar from their customers in advance of new regulations on the credit industry.

I immediately mailed a letter telling them to please DO close my account...I will pay off my balance at their "usual exorbitant interest rate."

I am months ahead on the payments on my most recent of THREE computers I have purchased from Dell. I have spent thousands of $$ at Dell on printers, software, routers, ink... Some of this is personal and some is for the company I own.

Neither I, nor anyone in my company or family will ever again purchase a Dell product.

Scam!
I purchased a 2yr warranty from Dell when I bought my laptop, my battery died 2 weeks before the warranty runs out, this Feb. 16/09.They say the warranty does not cover it for the term of my warranty, ONLY 1yr on battery!!.They say no way, some of the 1505 computers are being recalled!! for battery problems, I sure have one, they even offer For An EXTRA charge I could talk to some one in the USA not some other foreign country, Plus they switch you from one operator to another one, YESSSS I'm Pissed, wouldn't you be !! Is this the case with All pc laptops!!

illegal charges to credit card
Dell sales representative Daniel Parker promised me that my shipment would go out FEDEX next day air. He was advised that he did not have authorization to charge my account and place the order unless it would arrive in two days. He sent the order UPS ground and did not have authorization to place the order. He did this fraudulently. After spending 10 hours on the phone with Dell Financial and Dell customer care they would not take any action on this. Several times I was hung up on, was on very extended hold times and Dell Financial refused to file fraud charges against Daniel Parker who illegally charged my account. I asked to speak with the executives at Dell and was refused. A Dell Financial Manager Jose at the Texas office refused to speak with me and advised his representative not to file fraud charges. They would not expedite shipping of my order, cancel it, and would not refund my money. It is illegal for any person to place charges on my credit card without my authorization. Dell also, committed fraud by not notifying me via email that an order had been placed, would be shipped UPS ground without my authorization to hide the fact that an illegal order and charges to my credit card had been placed. I will not get these items in time for Christmas and had clearly not authorized this order. My billable rate with IBM as a software engineer would be $200.00 per hour if I had not become disabled and on IBM disability. They also, committed fraud against a disabled person and violated federal disability laws, have caused me additional medical problems and have mistreated me.

Sales Rep: On 10 Oct 2008, I ordered a "Studio 1535" laptop from Dell.
Sales Rep: Ronald C. DeCastro [email protected] [They refuse to respond to emails]
1-800-289-3355 [Routed To El Salvador!]

Having found it locally two days later for a cheaper price, I called to cancel the order [since Dell stated that it could take up to 30 days [!] for delivery. Point: Dell's return policy requires that customers return items within 3 weeks [down from 4 weeks as previously required]

BUT the 3 week clock BEGINS AT THE MOMENT DELL RECEIVES THE ORDER, NOT FROM WHEN THE CUSTOMER SIGNS FOR IT AT THEIR DOOR. Therefore, it could easily take longer to deliver the item and negate the return period before the customer is allowed to return the item!

When I called to cancel the order, I was told that I must wait until delivery to arrive and then call to request an RMA number for a return. Once again, I am in jeopardy of missing the 3 week deadline! Luckily, the box arrived on the 16th of October.

When I called Dell for the RMA number, I was informed that there would be a "Restocking Fee" of $135.00 [15% of the $900.80 purchase price].! Even though the box had NOT been opened or damaged the "Return Specialist" [Oh, brother!] stated that the laptop could not then be resold as "new".

Be serious! We all know that they WILL resell it as new. He said that it couldn't be resold as new because the computer had been "personalize" for me.

WRONG!

I ordered NO additional software or optional equipment.

Obviously, Dell is losing money and is trying feverishly to recoup any money possible. Clearly their lost revenue is due, in part, to their UNBELIEVABLY lousy customer service.

Awful service
Computer shoppers interested in customer service and support and expecting it to be good should be wary of Dell systems. This is an example of a company whose outsourcing for services in the global marketplace has in my opinion ruined its serviceability to it's customer in North America. Their response to my technical issues and a problem with sales were not completed in what I would expect to be a timely manner. Expect greater than one hour waiting times on the phone, shuffling of your call through numerous people and sheer frustration on your end! Case in point, Dell laptop crashes, needs several technical advisers to assist in reinstalling all software from start; advisor recommends expensive $249 anti virus software which is sold over the phone and sent via mail for installation. After realizing during install that it was sent for the incorrect windows operating system, Dell customer support refuses to take software back and send correct version (never mind the advisor had to know what system was being used during the reinstall during technical support). Despite calls back and forth at this point because we've been working this issue for almost a month now I'm starting to get quoted a 21 day rule for returns (ironic how we tried to resolve it way before then). This was the 5th computer from Dell and it will be the last. Such a shame to see what was once a once good company for me to deal with appear to be run into the ground. My faith is completely lost in the ability of this company to resolve my issue. I don't expect any response from one of their customer service reps other than something to the effect of "We're sorry and understand your problem, unfortunately there seems to be nothing we can do to help resolve your issue at this time". Save the lip service, I'll do my talking on my next purchase which won't be a Dell Dude! RE order number 984340789.

Fraud and scam
What a disappointment. My dell battery now needs to be completely replaced after a mere 13 months of service. Even worse, the battery stopped providing reliable power without being plugged in only a couple months in to owning my computer. It'll now cost me about $150 to replace this piece of crap with another one just like it. If actually want a halfway DECENT batter, it's going to run me $300.

To anyone thinking about purchasing a middle-of-the-road model Dell laptop, I'd advise you to do your research on what batter you're getting and insist it come with a proven performer that won't crap out after a year like mine did.

Terrible experience
Dell has ruined my twin granddaughters 10th birthday. Ordered 2 computers on 8/24 with anticipated 9/8 delivery date. One computer arrived on 9/6 and the second is on terminal backorder. Meanwhile they have collected the monies for both!

My daughter's entire household are MACs and now I know why. It would be nice if customer care/service understood why they are called that. Perhaps they should rename themselves to Dell Care!

Do Not Purchase Dell Computers.

gray-market sales
Buyer beware of Dell’s unscrupulous sales on the “gray market” of computers with no serial numbers!! I bought a Dell NL-25 laptop (for $1799) from a reputable store-- the then-Price Club-- in 1992, in good faith, believing it to be backed by Dell. When the laptop needed repair (on of the lid hinges and attached wiring began to disintegrate), I contacted Dell, and was willing to pay for the repairs myself. It was then that I found out that the laptop had no factory serial number and Dell informed me that, yes, Dell does sell some products without serial numbers, etc. In a Catch-22 situation, they said that they could no nothing to help without a serial number, suggesting that I seek redress from the seller instead. By then, unfortunately, Price Club had merged with Costco, and the latter felt no obligation whatsoever either. I was surprised by Dell’s lack of responsibility and indifference to customer problems caused by Dell business practices. I know the statute of limitations is long past, but I wonder if Dell still engages in the same deceptive practices. I have certainly never again bought a Dell product and have advised others not to do so.

I bought a camera that dont work
I bought a Sony Cyber-shot camera from Dell on 6-3-2008. I got the camera on 6-5-2008 and it will not work. I called Sony and talked with them and the man talked me through everything to try to get it to work but then he said it was the camera and not the memory stick card. I called Dell back and he told me they could not help me. I ask if they could replace the camera but he said no that it don’t come with that option. So now I am stuck with a camera that cost $117.67 and it will not work.
