Deceptive Sales os Software
Software downloads on Dell's sebsite. I tried to purchase a download of Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010 from Dell's website. The sales page clearly states, "Usually Ships: via email link within 30 minutes". NOT downloadable "via email link within 30 minutes". After several hours I finally got a "We received your order" confirmation via E-mail. After nearly 24 HOURS, Dell hasn't even charged my credit card yet. If you need the software ASAP don't trust Dell to help you. In my opinion, Dell is engaging in deceitful sales practices. Maybe "within 30 minutes, after several days, as we process your order like it was a computer purchase", would be more accurate. I had to purchase the software elsewhere and canceled my VISA card so Dell wouldn't charge me. Also, Dell’s customer service department has “banker’s” hours in my opinion. Don’t expect Dell's customer service to be there when you finally discover you have to cancel your order.

Software issues
I purchased a Dell computer with preloaded McAfee security software. In the last month, on two occasions, the computer has gone "Blue scree" immediately after an automatic software update. I spend $200 getting it repaired the first time, was able to get it back myself the second time. Obviously I've removed the McAfee and have to get other security software. Despite the fact that this software is incompatable with my computer (windows 7 64 bite) and others have had this problem, Dell says that they don't offer refunds. The software was preloaded, and to me that means Dell is endorsing it. McAfee says its Dell's problem since its preloaded.
Obviously the consumer is the one who loses. BEWARE

has never worked right
A year ago I bought my computer. I specified what I wanted and that I was an information junkie and did a lot of graphics. Having been a computer owner since Comador 64 and CompuServe and later took classes I felt like I could figuare things out. there is actually a thread of logic that runs things. I had to get Vista, which to date I have yet to find anyone who likes it. I even bought a book...step by step did not work. Finally I got some help when they realized that I did not own this computer in 2007 and that they should not keep trying to charge me for stuff that is under warrenty. I have now had the E-drive, motherboard, power source, and a fan replaced and my problems are not over yet. I talked to the tech. the other day and he said he wished I could force them to give me a new computer...THAT'S SAD!!!

Is it true or a scam?
Good day
I have received an email on 22 May 2010 informing me that I have won a million US Dollars in a DELL COMPUTER LOTTERY ONLINE SWEEPSTAKES INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM. When I contact the claim agent he asked for a few personal details Name, surname, Country, adress etc. which I forwarded to him. Then I received an email stating that the only ways that I can claim my winnings is to come to their head office in Indonesia or pay R4500 via wire transfer and they will open an account with their bank and the winnings will be send to my bank in 3 hours(?) in South Africa.
I have also received an certificate to certify that I am a winner from a barrister Chris Bailey from Barclay Chambers, 2a Barclay Road, London, E11 3DG.
Is this a scam or what must I do? There are so many scams on the internet but I don't want to get caught. Can you pse assist me in this.
Thanks for your help
René

Something that I was supposed to have received free with my purchase is now going to cost me more money out of my own pocket
I was waiting for the Free upgrade that I was supposed to receive for Windows 7 when I purchased my new computer. When it never came I contacted the service department and was told that I had to register my software at a site. (Something I was NEVER informed of). They also claimed to have sent out emails informing those eligible about the need to register. (An email I never received). Now, you can no longer register and the offer is no longer available. So, something that I was supposed to have received free with my purchase is now going to cost me MORE money out of my own pocket. Why was I not informed of this? Instead of trying to fix the problem, their response has been basically, "sorry for your luck". Not very good customer service.

Customer service sucks
Dell Computer's customer service is non-existent. My sister had a problem with her computer, she couldn't get on line and Internet Explorer wouldn't open at all. She got no program discs with the computer. After much effort she got Dell to send her discs to re-install Windows. I was helping her to install them, but I use Macs so had trouble getting it to open the discs. We called Dell to see how to do it, but the guy in India refused to answer any questions, he just wanted us to pay him $70.00. Then maybe he'd try helping. Sounds like blackmail to me. What kind of company can't even tell you how to install the system without being paid, after you've bought their product. I won't buy Dell, neither should you.

Technical Service
Terrible Technical Support. My computer had issues so I called and paid for support. The tech guy had me run a disc drive test which came out error free! He immediately said it was the disc and I needed two new discs because both my discs were bad. He then proceeded to try and sell me a host of other hardware and software products.
If I listened to him I would have not only had to purchase new discs but reinstall my operating system, all my programs and data. A total nightmare.
I was very weary of his solution and so I began doing my own testing and found it was a memory board that went bad. I replaced the board and all was well.
I highly recommend NOT purchasing a Dell because of their terrible support.

I'm asked to pay $49.00 for a diagonistic test when the problem has already been identified
My notebook needs to be repaired regardless of an expired warranty because the problem was pre-existing. I feel like a small fish and Dell is the whale. The whale eats me and doesn't feel it, so doesn't care. I can't get a direct extension to anyone...must go through the call process each time, I'm disconnnected. I'm asked to pay $49.00 for a diagonistic test when the problem has already been identified...I'm told to pay for a new motherboard, when the very first tech told me this was the problem orignially (right after we purchased the product and it was under warranty...but reported the problem resolved). Now my son is off to college and he still doesn't have a repaired notebook.
