Dell Computer Reviews

Customer service
We need someone to do a Reader's Digest version of "Next Day on Site Service". I have been in the IT industry since 1988 and foolishly believed that it meant that if there was a hardware issue, i would see a tech the next day. This did not prove to be true. First the tech told me that the hard drive was bad. I told them no it was the mother board and asked for a tech with a mother to replace it. No they insisted on sending me a hard to put in and reconfigure myself. (I guess my services fall under "Next Day on Site Service"). When I disagreed with the tech about sending me the hard drive, they offered to transfer me to the legal department to discuss my warranty. Nice. Well the hard drive came in, i put it in and guess what, the motherboard is bad. is a tech going to be on site today to fix it? No. they might be there on Monday. BTW the person on the other line had to get permission from his manager to send a tech out. I guess Dell's definition of "Next Day on Site Service" is the new definition and not the industry standard that I expect.

For three hours I was transfered to different departments
I just finished calling Dell to fix a simple shipping problem. Nine transfers and three hours later they could not figure out how to fix it. The facts are as follows. Son bought Dell laptop about 3 years ago while living in CA. Son now living in UT shipped laptop to Dell for repair and gave Dell his UT address for return shipping. Dell sends laptop to CA anyway. Son calls Dell to get it shipped correctly. Since I am not home during the days for pick-up Dell asks that I leave Laptop box out in front of house for between one to three days and FedEx come by. It is not acceptable to leave a laptop out for up to 3 days unattended so I called Dell to arrange for me to drop off the box at a FedEx Store and have it shipped immediately. FOR THREE HOURS AND NINE CALL TRANSFERS TO DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS, A DELL SUPERVISOR TRIES TO TELL ME IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO TAKE IT TO A FEDEX DEPOT AND SHIP TO MY SON AT THERE EXPENSE - HIS FORM HE MUST FILL OUT REQUIRES HE PUT THE ADDRESS WHERE I AM AT.

I gave up, hung up and paid the shipping myself. Dell Cumstomer service can't figure a way to have me drop of to their shipper, send to where it should have gone in the first place, and for them to pay the shipping bill -makes me wonder how get anything done.

Charges
On Jan 13, 2010 I received some help from Just Answer. We finally got the answer but I received my Visa Charge and I was charged twice. One for $28.00 and one for $35.00.
This is outrageous. This is a scam and I will call my Visa account and refuse to pay the
second charge.
This company should be put out of business.

Nightmare
I received a letter from Dell Computer s to extend my warranty on my XPS 720 3 years for $249. and receive $50. in Dell Dollars back to be used for future purchases from Dell Home $ Home Office. When I placed my order, the person at Dell Computers couldn't understand me and I couldn't understand them. They said the warranty would cost me $300. and I would receive $50. in Dell Dollars. After talking with numerous people, they gave me the warranty for what their letter stated it should be ($249.). I never received an e-mail confirmation that my warranty was extended so I called them back. They told me that my warranty was extended on someone else's computer but it was charged to my credit card. They got the charge right if you know what I mean. After reconnecting me with several people, most of them I could not understand, they extended the warranty on my computer.

A month and a half later I had not received my Dell Dollars, so I called them and after being reconnected to numerous people again, they all concluded that I would not receive my Dell Dollars and they could not do anything about it. So just remember, if you order something from Dell Computers, you probably want get what they offer or what you order.

Simply terrible
In May of this year, I ordered a replacement battery for a Dell Inspiron laptop computer online at www.Dell.com. One of Dell's online sales representatives confirmed that the part ordered was compatible with my laptop before the order was placed. I received an email confirmation of the part I ordered indicating the part would be shipped shortly. The fun begain after receipt of the second email from Dell (confirming part shipment) as I noted that the part number was different from the one originally ordered plus was for a Latitude laptop -not a Dell Inspiron laptop. I called Dell notifying them that they had shipped the wrong part plus contacted DHL Shipping to return the part to the vendor. Dell received and signed for the returned part (never delivered to me) on May 27th. I have not received my refund for the part yet.

Several rounds of phone calls plus emails have been sent to Dell's outsourced customer service division. Each time a representative promises action on the refund plus provides a time frame within which the refund will be received. At the end of the timeframe, guess what? - no refund. Another round of phone calls, another round of promises, new timeframes for an expedited refund and at the end of these "expedited refund timeframes" - no refund. And, by the way, a lot of "dropped" phone calls on the end of Dell's customer service. Their representatives don't like to deviate from their "scripted" replies to provide an answer as to why the previous refund requests were'nt handled correctly. So, beware buyers, when making an online purchase from Dell. If the order is incorrect, don't count on getting a refund back anytime soon. Also, don't count on any real customer service or resolution of issues - only scripted responses from a customer service department with no real action behind the response. Dell must have a serious cash flow problem to be delaying customer refunds for indefinite time periods. I can't recommend Dell anymore.

Delivery of product
I ordered a computer from Dell through my company before Thanksgiving. The delivery date was to be right after Christmas. When it got close to the time when the computer was due to be shipped, I checked the order status online. It showed that the delivery date had been slipped by an entire month.

A conversation with Dell's customer service reps (in another country than Dell) said that it must be due to parts being back-ordered and that they had sent emails to everyone who had been affected. I spoke with the accounting folks in my company who manage these employee orders and they were unaware any issues up to that point. Dell has not responded to any inquiries about why orders are being delayed and this is from a company that will be replacing 30, 000 computers over the next 3 years. I've cancelled my order because I don't know if Dell will even meet their January delivery date.

Dell used to have a good reputation for customer service and product delivery. If they keep it up, they will find themselves in the same category with the rest of the computer companies that have slowly fallen apart and gone out of business.

Financial Services constant lies
Don't even know where to begin with all the lies I have been told over the past 3 weeks. I purchased a new Studio computer and Laser printer in June, then waited to receive a statement. I told the sales person I had purchase a computer several years ago but that I had sold my home and moved to another state. All the address and billing information were given to her at the time, and I was told I would receive a statement in 30-45 days.

I kept calling the only number I had and never being able to get a person on the line. Even entering my SS# did not help me to get account information because I did not have a current account number.

Finally in September a real person called me and agreed to send me a statement and said they were sorry, but this happens all the time. I was assured that as soon as my account was current any charges they had made to the account would be removed as it was their fault I could not access my account. They had put a "LOCK" on it so I could not pay anything on the account.

Now I am current and the story has changed. It is not Dell's fault but mine and they are not going to remove the additional charges they made and sorry but the promotion I bought the computer under no longer exist and I have to pay the interest rate they decided since my account went deliquent.

I firmly believe Dell does this deliberately to charge interest to customers so they do not get to pay their computer off during the promotion. This is the last time I will ever purchase a computer or any other product from Dell. I will also never recommend them to anyone in the future.

Awful company
I bought a new computer and it had several problems, they sent me a referbished computer and it has had several problems, that they have been unable to fix. The computer has been sent to the depot for repair. They have replaced the hard drive and the mother board, mutliple times and now after I have lost several weeks in wages, they want to send me a refurbished one. I already had someone elses problem child, I Do NOT Want Antoher. i have spent probably 20 hours just in communitcating with dell and trying to get the issue resolved. I could have purchased a new computer and saved myself money.

Horrible Customer Service
GET HELP WITH YOUR DELL PROBLEMS!

I have had nothing but problems dealing with Dell recently. From being flat out called a liar to being hung up on I've seen and heard it all. All I wanted was to spend my $1700.00 plus a sizable amount of interest and get what I paid for, but that just wasn't going to happen. I've been transferred, made to restate all my information over and over again, transferred more, give my information yet again, call drops, start over, repeat again. I've never had so many problems trying to give a company my money - EVER.

First, it may or may not help, but it will definitely make you feel better and it WILL at least send you an automated response which in most cases will be the most you've received since first picking up the phone and making the mistake of dealing with Dell. --> BBB <-- www.bbb.org/

Additionally, I strongly suggest writing an email to the following email addresses. Some may bounce, some have nothing to do with things, but can probably forward your email to someone who can. I was/am at a point where I really don't care who the hell helps me as long as I'm helped. Oh and short and to the point, I ordered my 3rd Dell PC, huge issues... finally made the choice to just say forget it and build my own, the biggest mistake was being limited to my Dell Account and having to order the parts through them, which has been the SAME nightmare Dell Hell.

After emailing the list above I received not just one phone call, but two phone calls from CSRs within literally 10 minutes of hitting the send button. My issues are somewhat resolved, only time will really tell.

Good luck, you'll need it.

After Dell deleted messages I posted on their forums to help other users like myself:

Thanks Dell, if it is possible to sink even further in my views of you, you've just done it. At least you're successful at SOMETHING! Oh you also just sparked me to find every message board possible to copy/paste my original post and this one too.

Additionally I have used the email list above to send the deleted forum message to get an answer on why it was deleted and will do the same with this when you delete it. I'm sorry you don't like what I'm saying, here is some advice - Get your problems fixed with your Customer "Care" Service and every other function of Customer Service and you won't have to deal with trying to keep your unhappy customers silent!
