Bad service
Very dissatisfied.

On February 6, 2009, I placed an on-line order for a Canon SD 790 IS digital camera. I paid sales tax, as well as $16.00 for "Next Business Day" shipping because, as I previously explained to a telephone sales representative, I needed the camera to arrive in Greater Boston no later than today, February 11, 2009.

Shortly after completing the transaction, Dell sent me an e-mail entitled "Dell Order Has Been Confirmed for Dell Purchase ID: 2001614590079."

When the camera did not arrive today, I checked on line -- undoubtedly I should have done this earlier, but I relied on the Dell e-mail -- and discovered that the order not only had not shipped, it is still in "Order Processing."

I called Dell customer service. The first level support person told me there was a problem with verifying my credit card. (Odd!! Three related items I ordered that same day from Amazon.com all arrived yesterday.) I was told that I had received an e-mail to that effect. I assured the Dell representative that the last e-mail I had from Dell was the order confirmation. He suggested it may have gone into my spam filter. I checked my spam folder (gmail), but did not find anything from Dell.

I asked whether, in addition to correcting matters, Dell would expedite shipping at no cost to me in compensation for Dell's error. No, I was told. I then asked to speak with a supervisor.

I rehearsed these events with Shekhar (first name), Dell employee # 161031, who also insisted I must have received e-mail notice of the problem and who repeated Dell's unwillingness to compensate me through free, expedited shipping.

I only ordered from Dell because Amazon.com is much more expensive and B&H Photo is out of stock. Never again.

Fraud and lies
I bought a 42' Dell Plasma TV. It worked less than 2 years. Dell's authorize service company 'offered' $1100 shipping plus $276 for fault isolation --- that's not even starting the repair! No service. No support. Don't buy a Dell - they don't stand behind their products.

Third Harddrive
What a Nightmare! I bought a Dell XPS 710 about a year and a half ago. I've had this computer for 6 months. Had some problems with windows loading, would freeze up or just stay at the window logo, trying to load. Called Dell...or should I say India. After being on the phone for hours upon hours, first of all trying to understand what the heck they are saying to not getting anywhere. To make a long story short, they send me a new harddrive...lost everything I had on the comp. Put the new drive in, now 2 months later...they are sending another harddrive. Whats up with this???? How frustrating. All I can say is NEVER AGAIN. I'm getting this today, installing it, and getting rid of this piece of crap! Never, will I purchase or recommend a Dell to anyone. Stay away from them. They love throwing parts at you hoping to satisfy their customer. Well, I've had enough! Good riddens Dell!!!

Being in debt thanks to Dell
I was married and we decided to buy us a new Dell desktop (in 2001) and my husband agreed that if we put it in my name due to him having shotty credit and mine being good then he would pay it off. Well when we separated he quit paying the bill AND he got the computer, I eventually got the computer back into my possession but now I had a bill that had not been being paid for months, so trying to keep my credit in good condition b/c I was young and still building it up, I started making monthly payments in an amount of $40, an amount that I could handle at the time, no big deal right? Well then Dell Financial Services sent me a letter stating that the amount that I was paying wasn't enough and they wanted more! I tried to explain that this was all I could pay. Eventually I became so fed up that I quit making payments to them, I know this was wrong on my part but then the HIGH interest rate took me over, they threatened to send it to collection, I made numerous calls telling them I would give them a considerable amount from my tax return to just resolve the debt and make it go away, they refused, so I tried to send them a dispute letter explaining my financial situation as a young woman, also having been basically screwed by an ex, and still no resolve not even a reply. Now it has been many years now, close to 8! I still receive calls on a very regular basis and I owe Dell Financial Services more than the computer could EVER be worth!! and I have NO idea how to fix this debt or my credit. Thanks to dell my credit is now shot! and I am newly married and want so badly to resolve this huge amount. Please help if you have ANY suggestions!

Hell
I have fallen into Dell Hell. I recently bought two, expensive, Studio 17 Dell laptops. I have had problems with both but what really makes me furious is the horrific customer service response to my problems. I have probably spent over 50 hours on the phone with Dell and spent a couple of hundred extra dollars with Dell paying for support for the software installed on the computer. I didn't realize that even with the first 90 days Dell does not provide free software support and you can't go back to the software company because the software was bought and installed by Dell.

Lack of support
I ordered a dell computer and I had to under go a serious surgery and I am not sure when I can return to work. So I contacted Dell for 5 days finally got a hold of someone and they told me not to refuse the computer. and that under these circumstances should not charge me the 15% restocking fee. When I finally talked to a customer service they said not only would I have to pay the restocking fee but also pay so have it shipped back. If only had refused the package I would not have to pay that back, but worse then that they refused to take the 15% off. It's really nice to know that I'm doing business with a company would really could care less about people and more about the dollar. they even said they would give me a 35.00 discount if I keep the a computer. It's very sad when the dollar means more than anything else. also by the way it was a basic computer no add ons so there was no special things added to the computer just a basic model.

No refund
I bought a new Dell at Staples in August 2008. I left on vacation, and used the new Dell for a total of 10 days. It broke, and can not be rebooted. Neither Dell nor Staples wants to give me a refund. After many hours on the phone, the technician who was supposed to come to fix it, didn't show up. I needed to buy a new computer for my small business. I need a refund. Dell is totally unresponsive.

What to do next?

Bad service
There is no customer service @ dell. save yourself alot of frustration and avoid them like the plague they are. i received a dead computer from them and entered dell hell. once they realized i wouldn't be willing to keep an expensive paperweight around my call was routed to india. this is a black hole but i'd much rather be in a real one. i was put on non-ending hold, sent from person to person and disconnected many times. it took hours and i felt helpless and completely ripped off. it's called the dell run around. i asked for a supervisor and that was refused. finally told one of them i'd be disputing the charge on my ax since they weren't interested in providing any customer service. they said go ahead. i did. funny how there was lots of customer service when they were trying to sell their junk. the agent at ax tried calling for me and she got the same treatment. now i'm going through more time wasted disputing the charge. i'm having to pay out my pocket to ship the piece of junk back. also, the bar code on the bottom of the dead computer had been rubbed off with an eraser. it was pre-owned and sold as new. save yourself some grief and buy from compaq, hp, ibm, or apple. funny but i help people by fixing their screwed up computers. i don't charge them as i feel sorry for them. most people are clueless. when a computer is unsalvagable i help them buy a new one. i use to use dell. ha. not anymore. i have a 90's era cheap little HP laptop that's still working great. i got it for $25 at a thrift store. just needed a little work. guess i'll be recommending them from now on.

waranty
Dell is horrible I bought a home pc and after hooking it up it had a virus. They told me that I didn't have a software warranty and if I wanted to send it back that they were going to charge me 200.00 to put it back on the shelf. About the warranty I did get one just not the right one it seems as if they made sure not to mention there were separate warranty's if I would have known that I would have purchased it. I feel that their products are not efficient and their consumer support does not exsist.

Rebate scam
A dear friend recommended I purchase a dell computer. In December I purchased an inspiron 1721 laptop. I only had dial up service available so a laptop would let me do large downloads with wi fi. There were the usual start up problems with service packs destroying the operating system but the tech support got me through this (and the problem was with Word Perfect and Vista) and it works moderately well. But a perfect storm was brewing.

Fiber optics were finally coming to our road. My phone co chose to discontinue our local phone service unless we purchased a very expensive service. We shopped alternatives and contracted for local service and a high speed connection. These work well but we were under a deadline for changing our local service. No longer is it a flipping of a switch for fiber optics had to be installed. Could they hurry and complete the fiber work before the other company pulled the switch? Fortunately they could, and did with a crew that came from 400 miles away. Dummy here dropped my dial up ISP before they sent me my rebate and gift certificatethis also changed my email address under which I purchased and registered the computer.

I had purchased the laptop with a promised rebate and a gift certificate for registering and when they did not come I called (probably in early February) and was told it was too late to find out about the rebate and gift certificate. My request simply hit a dead end in customer care and I could not speak with a supervisor.

In July 2008 I heard about this web site and wrote to dell that they cheated me and before I make my complaint I felt they should have an opportunity to reply, they did. Same answer, we can do nothing.

I am free at last as the computer is paid for and dell financial cannot play gotcha with a deferred finance charge so I will freely tell one and all that If Dell wants to give you a rebate simply tell them no thanks, just drop the sales price by that much. They cheated me and I will never buy from them again.
