Dependable Locks, Inc. Reviews

overpriced, address/license not on receipt
This company is listed in Clearwater Florida but I'm in Southern California. Overpriced, advised it was $149 AFTER unlocking door. Absolutely insensed, got them down to 110 after complaining to supv that girl on the phone whom I originally called DID NOT GIVE ME PRICE!!! Receipt does not have their local address, the florida address or their license number. Found Florida addrss on notepad paper driver gave me and online. got home, called 866 number, recording said it was customer service but I asked the rep. who answered for the local address and he refused to give it to me, said he's just AN ANSWERING SERVICE and they give messages to local locksmith (wouldn't give me number) and man is sent out. They also ASKED FOR CASH which makes me wonder whether they're reporting to the IRS.

FRAUD
I was put in touch with this company after calling A 24 hr Locksmith. They quoted me 75 dollars for a new lock I was seeking for a personal safety threat/issue. I was told someone would call me at 5:30. I had no idea it would be from another company alltogether from A 24 hr Locksmith.

A man named Idan called and said he was there. He seemed very handsome, charming, and professional. We discussed the situtation and the different kinds of locks and he began to change the lock. AFTER he had finished he told me I owed him $275.18.

I was appaled and questioned the whole thing, as I was flabbergasted with the amount but felt i had NO OTHER CHOICE since the man had already done the job/work.

He made a copy of my cards ( I had to use TWO to cover the cost) and left. He also said to call him if I needed anything else.

I recently found 2 charges on my credit card he had copied for $85 and $75, both at gas stations in the Valley area of Los Angeles where he had said he resided.

I had to call my credit card company and file a claim and cancel my card.

I also called Dependable Locks Inc and the man named LESLIE was extremely short with me over the phone and said to fax in the copies of receipts and bank statements for review. When I called back this afternoon he was still rude to me and said the manager would not be back until MONDAY.

Is there anything I can do about this situation?

The irony is that I got the new lock for the purposes of feeling more safe in my home and now I feel even LESS safe, since the guy they sent to change my lock not only STOLE MY IDENTITY but also knows where I live.

I feel rather disgusted, scared, and vulnerable. Please help.

Please email me at [email protected]

THANK YOU.

Another Bait and Switch Story
On Dec 27, 2008 my husband locked his key's in his trunk. He called Dependable Locks, Inc. 866-429-9485 or 253-862-0485 (a nice friendly local number) in which "Al" came out based on the (of course) quoted price of $39 service fee and $15 to unlock door. Sounds reasonable. Except once he takes the 5 minutes to unlock the door, in the process, signaling to the car that it's being stolen and therefore, locking down the rest of the car including the button that unlocks the trunk (professional right?!), he charges the $39 plus $140 to unlock the car. So, my husband still is essentially locked out considering the keys are in the trunk, the car is locked down and we're out $179.

I typed in Dependable Locks, Inc to get an address in order to contact the BBB and local City of Commerce but got this website. I empathize with all of you and am angry that we spent $179 but more angry that this company preys on vulnerable people. I am disputing the credit card charge and maintain that it is a bait and switch scam and my husband signed under duress.

I call the 866 number and after 10 minutes, spoke to a "lady" named Melissa. I explained that I was originally calling to ask that we be reimbursed the $124 we were overcharged or I would dispute the claim with the credit card company, call BBB and Chamber of Commerce but it was clear to me that this was a functioning scam operation and that she would be used to these kinds of calls. While on hold, I realized that this was not a reputable company that would acknowledge the discrepancy and reimburse our money. I also stated that it was clear that she was accustomed to these calls. She stated that was used to people signing the credit card reciept and itemization of charges, then complaining afterwards and that since my husband had done so, there was nothing we could do.

Like I said, bait and switch and signing under duress. "What was I supposed to do?" stated my husband...I'm assuming it's been said by everyone who has made a complaint.

I have to hand it to them, they have a pretty solid scam. I don't know many people who are calling BBB when they are locked out in the middle of nowhere. Vulnerable and without recourse or options, what could be better?

A "I wish you had told me that before" piece of advice. Call AAA and become a member. It's immediate and they will send out somebody right away plus you now have a full year of coverage. I wish I had told my husband this.

Good luck and don't stop fighting. Personally, I've printed out all of the previous complaints to send to the credit card company and if anybody is up for a class action lawsuit, I'm game. If only to protect further victims.

Locksmith Ripp Off
Warning...Do Not Use Dependable Locks, Inc. Little Rock, Arkansas

This past Sunday I contacted this office in the Little Rock, Arkansas area. I spoke with a very polite representative named Dante. I informed Dante that I lived 20 minutes outside of the metro area and wanted a quote before initiating a service call to my home which needed to be unlocked.

Dante told me that the rate was: $39.00 for the service call and an additional $15.00 for the basic unlocking fee. However, he stated that if the lock was more troublesome, the technician may have to try additional unlocking techniques which would result in additional fees. Dante explained that these additional fees would be detailed by the technician BEFORE unlocking the door. I agreed to this and submitted an order.

When the arab-american technician arrived, he never introduced himself nor said anything other than “which door?”. My husband quickly directed him to the door which he prompted unlocked without much hassle, turned back to his vehicle and wrote out an invoice for $149.00. This guy seemed totally aggrevated to be there to perform a service call. Zero personality or sympathy for our unfortunate situation.

Before my husband realized what the charges meant he immediately called the debit card number to the 1-800 payment verification center and drove away... scribbled together a joke of an invoice and asked for a signature (Total time spent at my home was less than 10 minutes). Seemed way too "scam-like" to me. Obviously he had done this deal many times before.

Today, I spoke with Ron in “customer service” about the price difference between the quote and the actual bill. Ron’s response was, “our technicians are able to charge a maximum of $110.00”. When I questioned him about Dante’s explanation of the fee basis, again he said: “our technicians are able to charge a maximum of $110.00”.

I think it is DISGRACEFUL that anyone is doing business this way. Taking advantage of a consumer in distress is totally wrong!

Terrible service!
On March 20, 2008 I called Dependable Locks, Inc. in Little Rock, Arkansas because I was locked out of my home. The man had trouble unlocking one door so he tried another door. He couldn't get that lock opened either. He went back to the original door and tried repeatedly to open the door. After about 15 minutes, he got a screw driver and tore the lock off the door. He didn't inform me that he was about to break a very expensive door lock. After he broke my lock, he told me he would have to put on another lock. It was cheap. He wanted me to pay for the lock he had broken. I told him I would not pay for a lock he broke. He left with the key to the lock and would not give me a key. I called the Little Rock, Arkansas company three times to ask for a key to the lock. Each time he said he left the key. Why would I call them if I had a key...

Scam and cheating!
I called because I lost the keys to my apartment. I was quoted a price of $85.00 to get into my apartment. The locksmith arrived, and the bill suddenly went up to $124.00. I will also now need to have the lock replaced, due to the damage done to it.
