DESERT DUNES ANIMAL HOSPITAL Reviews

Misdiagnosed a terminal illness
My darling little Yorkie kept being bloated and lethargic. I had put him on a calorie reduced diet to help him lose weight. No matter what I did, he stayed bloated. Finally, his lethargy caused me to take him to Desert Dunes. The doc told me he was obese and I needed to stop giving him too many treats. I explained that I did not give him treats, but he did not lose weight anyway. He weight almost 14 pounds that day at the vet. Ultimately, my darling collapsed and I took him to the local emergency vet in the middle of the night. That vet took one look at him and said "congestive heart failure -- he is full of fluid". He died that night. I hate the vet at Desert Dunes for being so obtuse as to assume that my darling was just eating too much, and never tested him for anything else. He was not obese at all; he was full of fluid from congestive heart failure, which could have been treated!!!

A BEAUTIFUL GOLDEN RETRIEVER
Henry Randazzo, DVM, Desert Dunes Animal Hospital, Bermuda Dunes, Ca., kept selling me on deep dental cleaning using anesthesia on my beloved 13 y/o female Golden Retriever.

As a result of using anesthesia on an old dog, she suffered a massive stroke immediately thereafter, but regardless, she was discharged from the animal hospital that same day and in very poor condition. I was told it was just the effects from the anesthesia and it would wear off. It didn't, she suffered tremendously and I paid over $4000 to another veterinarian to help her recover.Incidentally, she had no cavities, no gum disease and her teeth had only slight tarter buildup.

She recently died as a result of a 2nd stroke precipitated by the first stroke, precipitated by the use of the anesthesia. The question becomes, why would a Vet "sell" the owner of a beloved pet on the use an anesthetic on an old dog with no cavities, no dental problems, and no periodontal disease? What would be the advantage and what is the down side?

Wouldn't you think the vet would err on the side of caution and do no harm? It was an unconscionable act which resulted in the death of a very dear and beloved family member, my very best friend and companion of nearly 14 years. I went to tremendous lengths to insure Kona's good health and well-being over the years and spent thousands and thousands of dollars on her medical needs to keep her in the best of health.

Not only did Dr. Henry Randazzo destroyed my baby, he also refused to reimburse for his dastardly deed, nearly $900 and never once said I am sorry for your loss.

The abuse to Kona and the physical and emotional trauma to me and my family has been debilitating and we suffered unimaginable grief. I cry every day and am heartbroken and am suffering more than words could ever describe. I trusted Henry Randazzo and believed him to be the expert and to do the right thing. Surely he knew what's best for my baby, or so I believed.

Clearly he should have erred on the side of caution and should have never talked me into giving an old dog anesthesia except in a life threatening emergency. Clearly I should have known better, but my foolish belief that he is the expert and he knows best changed my life forever.

Never ever have blind faith. My beautiful, sweet, loving Kona was my best friend and companion for 14 years. My life has been shattered and all but destroyed because of Henry Randazzo's greed and my trusting him. He should not be permitted to do this to any other animal lover caregiver and pet owner. PLEASE, everyone, be careful and be cautious and ask plenty of questions. Don't ever take for granted what a vet tells you. Let our misfortunate be a warning to all pet lovers not to have blanket trust and belief that your vet is always doing the right thing. Money and greed are always strong motivating factors for doing the wrong thing.

If you go to Randazzo now, don't ever let him talk you into a procedure that you are not absolutely and totally in agreement with, that you don't feel comfortable with. It will save you unbelievable heartache.

God bless.
