Diamonds International Reviews

Rip off
I AM SO DISAPPONTED IN THE SCAM CARNIVAL HAS WITH DIAMONDS INT'L AND WILL GET MY MONEY BACK IF IT IS THE LAST THING I DO. I was pressured to buy an item with Diamonds International and the response I got was that they could not give me my money back because of buyer's remorse. WHAT???? I took this item to my jeweler and he also is willing to place into writing that this item had a clasp that was defective, which I did not know until I paid for another appraisal for this piece. He advised me NEVER to wear this bracelet until I have it fixed (this item is 4 days old, mind you) because it will fall off of my wrist. This item IS NOT AS IT WAS STATED TO ME- the color & clarity are not as good as DI has stated-in other words, they are not accurate. The appraisal that we received from DI was given higher marks than it should have been given. I was taken for a ride, so they say in the USA. My jeweler is a highly trained professional (Master Benchmark Jeweler), so I know that I have been misrepresented by Carnival and Diamonds International and will persue this to the fullest extent of the law. I will not accept your response and will take this to a higher level. We will be in dispute with DI through PPI Group, (like everyone else after I have read the FRAUD reports about Diamonds International) which is about useless because after looking on the back of my receipt, I see that they will only take merchandise back for store credit and I have also read that if they do agree to this that somehow diamonds have been "lost" in the mail even though they have been insured and sent via Certified Mail. How is this so? (I can trust them to not "lose" my diamond to give me what I am paying for??). I am willing to drive to New York to get my money back. DI is trying to wear people down so we'll just give up and accept their store credit offer. I'm in for the long-haul. I will NOT give up fighting. I will contact the States Attorneys General, the Better Business Bureau, and post their names all over the internet if they do not give me my money back. I will also open up a claim with my credit card company. I was told that 'buyer's remorse' was not an excuse for a return? Are they kidding me? If you buy a dress and then decide to take it back a month later you are perfectly within your rights to do that. Now if that dress is DEFECTIVE and MISREPRESENTED to the buyer I think you have a case for a lawsuit if they do not honor that return. We as cruise ship passengers should be protected under the laws of the United Staes, but it seems as though we were at the mercy of the unfair laws of wherever you buy the merchandise. We were also assured by the Carnival "expert jemologist" that DI was based out of New York and that we were indeed protected by US laws. Not true. He warned us of the dangers of buying overseas from unscrupulous shopowners. Little did we know that we were being scammed by Carnival and Diamonds International.

Will I sail with Carnival again? Probably not. Will I ever purchase anything of value overseas again? NO! Diamonds International? ABSOLUTLEY NOT and I will tell everyone I know! Read all of the threads! BUYER BEWARE!

Fraud
In May 2009, while on a cruise visiting Antigua, I went to Diamonds International. They came highly recommended by the cruise line. I had always wanted a 5 stone anniversary ring, and we were celebrating out 30th wedding anniversary. The salesman showed me a few rings in the $1500 range. I asked him what the color of the stones were and he said (H-I). I asked if he had anything in an E or F color. I wanted to stay close to the color of my engagement ring, which is an E. He brought me over to a case that had Hearts on Fire diamonds and he showed me a beautiful ring that cost $4400. I asked him the color and he said "F". I told him that it was nice, but it was too much money. He said that they don't discount HOF but he would see what he could do. He came back saying that he could take $400. off. I told him I would think about it and left the store. About an hour later my husband went back and looked at the ring. He decided that he would try to get it a little lower in price. He was able to get it down to $3600. He again asked the salesman the color and was told again that it was an "F". He purchased the ring. When we went back to the store to pick it up after having it sized, the salesman gave us the bill of sale we read it and it said "F" color. The salesman handed me the bag with the box and told me that the HOF appraisal was in the bag. We left the store and went back to the ship. The following day, as we were packing I looked at the appraisal for HOF and it clearly stated "H-I" color. When we got home we took the ring to an independent GIA appraiser and found that the HOF appraisal was correct. The worst part was that the ring was only appraised for $3200.
The salesman sold us a ring, knowing full well that the quality was not what we wanted. He put the appraisal in the bag so that we didn't see it knowing that our ship was sailing soon and did not have time to look it over. Fortunately, the insurance company that was listed on the cruise lines paperwork helped us get back a full refund. I will never shop at Diamonds International, whether it be on an island or on-line. Buyer Beware!

Poor Customer Service, Awful Products
I cruised with Royal Caribbean during the week of 11-OCT-08 to 18-OCT-08. While in Phillipsburg, SM, I made a purchase of a diamond engagement ring at Tanzanite International in Wathey Square. Upon returning to the ship, we noticed that the center stone was mounted crookedly, and took the ring to the onboard "Shopping Assistant" to discuss how we could go about getting the problem remedied. Unfortunately, a tropical storm decided to blow us out of Puerto Rico, so nothing could be fixed while on the ship. I filled out a "Merchandise Adjustment Form" and agreed to having Royal Caribbean contact the dealer so that they could get in contact with me.

Upon returning to the states, I went to have the ring appraised at a reputable and trusted jeweler. It came as a bit of a shock when the jeweler took one look at the ring, and informed me that I had "been taken" by Diamonds International (parent company to TI). The jeweler then proceeded to give me a laundry list of problems with the stone/setting/mounting that include the following highlights:

- The original diamond was over-priced and poorly cut.
- The stone was over sized for the setting that it was placed in and had to be forced into the setting.
- As a result of the stone being over sized and a complete mismatch for the setting, the DI jeweler that mounted the stone had to do the following:

* One of the four prongs was broken off and then soldered back onto the ring. This resulted in a visible crack on the broken off prong and a possible weakness in the mount that could result in a lost stone.
* The other three prongs were just as atrocious. As the stone was originally cut funny, it fit into the setting crooked. This caused gaps in the other three sides that had to be filled in with a ridiculous amount of solder. The solder caused visible markings in the 3 remaining prongs and caused the center diamond to be both not square to the setting and caused the diamond to "run downhill.

- In addition to the center stone, the ring has a "Pave" setting. Due to poor polishing and mounting, the DI jeweler polished off the outside prongs on one whole side of the pave-setting. This will, most certainly, cause the outside diamonds to fall out much easier than they would if the prongs remained intact.
- As a result of having to shrink the size of the ring, the whole mounting is crooked and leans to the left. This can also be seen by the naked eye, and could result in an improper fit.

DI took almost 2 hours to mount and size this setting and diamond, and as a result of the store nearing closing hours, I feel that it was a rushed job and they butchered the ring. There's absolutely no way I could have ever proposed with this ring. Our family jeweler was appalled by this ring.

Upon contacting Diamonds International and presenting them with this information, I was put in touch (and would continue for the next 6 months) with Juan. I was informed that i was just having "buyers remorse" and there was nothing that they could do. I then had it professionally appraised by an independent appraiser where it was valued at $1200 less than what I had paid for it. Diamonds International then told me they didn't trust my appraiser, and needed to see it for themselves. For the next 6 months, I fought back and forth with them, reluctantly sending it back to them for appraisal, only to have them tell me that their appraiser found nothing wrong with it and that I was left with little options. Fed up, I finally told the guy on the line that I could no longer deal with him and needed to speak with someone else. I was finally put on with a manager, who told me that I would be able to get store credit. I told him that it was pointless to get store credit for "crap product" if it was just going to go back to more "crap product". Luckily, DI sells loose stones. I purchased a loose diamond from them which I then put into a mount provided by the aforementioned trust-worthy jeweler.

I will never do business with this company again. Their business practices are vicious. They make every attempt to make you feel awful for trying to get your money back. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM! EVER!

credit card information stollen by employee
My boyfriend and I purchased a ring at the Diamonds International in Cozumel, while sailing on the Carnival Legend. After attending a jem seminar on the ship we decided to look at the Diamonds International store. We were assured that we would get a great deal... We decided to buy the ring.
The "port shopping" person that held seminars on the ship, etc. was in the store with us at the time of purchase. So I felt like there was nothing to worry about. When we got home, a week later more than 2, 400 was charged to our card that was used at the store. All charges were for stores in the Mexico area. This was the one and only tijme we used the card the entire trip.
Dont purchase anything from this company. They did not run our card in front of us. There is a small room in the center of the store... They said they were filling out paper work on the ring. We actually had to ask a couple times for the card... We needed to board the ship. The Carnival "shopper" that was with us even had to say they need their card and paperwork. Looking back. I realize they were writing writing down the info on the card, and checking the balance on the account. I've called Carnival and they are doing an investigation.

Scam and cheating
I purchased a white gold sapphire ring at Diamonds International while on a Carnival Legend Cruise in September, 2007, to Belize. It was a gift for my daughter's birthday.

Within the first couple weeks of wearing, a stone came out and that is when the fun began. After numerous calls to Diamonds International, I finally received return shipping information to send the ring back to their NY location for repair/replacement. This was November 13, 2007.

After numerous calls, which were either not returned or being told that the person I dealt with no longer worked for the company, I received the ring back (after 4 months) on March 10th, 2008. My daughter wore the ring to work one day and the stone fell out again. The stone obviously was not a sapphire as it had clear spots in it and the glue job was evident.

I am thoroughly disgusted and it is not worth my blood pressure to go through sending this ring back again. The ring is inferior and my only satisfaction at this point would be a complete refund of my money. Carnival should not promote this business if they are not going to follow up on problems that their guests have. I work too hard for $600. to be thrown down the drain. My advice to anyone is to not use Diamonds International for your jewelry purchases.

Horrible company
We cruised on Carnival Elation on 3/17-3/23/07 to the Bahamas. We attended the shopping presentation onboard with the Elation's super shopper Mark. Mark touted Diamond International as one of only two diamond merchants in Nassau that could be trusted.

We were shopping for a .50 carat loose diamond. We selected a round cut diamond price around $1700, but they would give us a deal on it for $1375. Per the salesperson and the appraisal we received from DI it was valued at $1730, is .51 carat white diamond that was g color and I1 clarity.

When we returned to the states we had the diamond re-appraised. I assure you that this appraiser had NO interest in purchasing our diamond or selling us another diamond. He is an independent appraiser, not a jeweler, who does appraisals in several of the jewelry stores in our area. We have used him before and he was right on the money with our previous loose diamond appraisal. He neither tried to purchase our diamond or steer us to a jeweler to trade it in or sell it. My problem is not the newly appraised value of $1800, it is that that the .51 round cut, g color, I1 clarity diamond was now appraised as .48 carat, k color and I1 clarity. Not even close. My dispute is that the diamond was misrepresented. It is not what I purchased.

We are in dispute with DI through PTI, which is about useless because they appear to be working for Diamonds International. They only offer to take my diamond back and give store credit (I can trust them to not 'lose' my diamond to give me what I am paying for??). DI is trying to wear us down so we'll just give up and accept their store-credit offer. They don't know I'm in for the long-haul.

Will I sail with Carnival again? I don't know. Will I ever purchase anything of value overseas again? NO! Diamonds International? ABSOLUTELY NOT and I will tell everyone I know! Read all of the threads, they are EXACTLY what we are going through now. BUYER BEWARE!

Fraud and scam
I purchased a loose stone while on a Carnvial cruise. While on the cruise, these stores are heavily promoted and you are assured that these are guaranteed stores. Once I got home, I had the ring appraised as it looked like there was a problem with the corner (princess cut 0.70 H SI3). I was shocked to find out that the stone was neither the size or clarity that I thought 0.55 H I2). I called PPI and registered a claim, that was 7 mths ago.

DI refuses to offer a refund and after many many calls I received a replacement. Cautious I had the stone looked at and once again as it looked chipped it was not an SI3 but an I2. I have been now working to get a refund. Carnvial takes no responsibility and advised that I had to deal with PPI. If anyone has contact info for someone at DI to expedite this issue, please let me know. They do not return calls or emails.

Selling junk jewelry!
BEWARE OF DIAMONDS INTERNATIONAL!!! On a cruise we made the mistake of believing the "super shopper" when listening to his "great buys in the ports" presentation on board. After purchasing a diamond ring in Cozumel, Mexico, we got home to have another appraisal done and found it was graded lower than it was represented. Further more, it was advised that I not wear the ring as the imperfections were such that if hit, it could be broken. This is suppose to be a diamond, a hard stone! Because our appraisal was the two grades below what DI said it was, they had to agree to a full refund. We bought it in Feb. and it is now the middle of May. They now have both the ring and our money. They have said our credit card would be credited and it has not. After all this time of unanswered messages and phone calls, they seem to think I am going away. Wrong! This is not a message from one dissatisfied customer. You can find many places and blogs to tell you of this misleading company. Two other members of our party were ripped off also. This was not an isolated case. I blame the cruise lines as well for promoting these deceptive practices. The fraudulent practices of Diamonds International are to be avoided at all costs. They hope you will go away, but they have sold their junk to the wrong people. Many people are hearing about their fleecing of the public.
