Yesterday I went into the Dicks Sporting Goods Store on East Washington Street, and talked to a gentelman in a blue shirt about a pair of Nike shoes that I purchased on 7/19/09. I explained to him that I hardly even wore the shoes, for the most part they had just been in my closet. But I went to put them on a couple of days ago and the inside sole felt strange and uncomfortable. The sole rippled up and no matter how I tried to reinsert it, it didn't feel right. I explained that I didn't keep my receipt or the box as I had no intention of bringing them back. I never expected to have trouble with them. I said I didn't want a refund that I just wanted to bring them in and exchange them.
He told me it would be no problem that they would exchange them for me even though I didn't keep the receipt and to just bring them in.
So the next day (today) I took them back for an exchange. I breifly talked to someone in a green shirt and asked to talk to a sales person with a blue shirt as I understand they take care of problems. So as I was waiting for a blue shirt person to take care of me, I noticed him talking to a lady in a blue shirt. So walked over toward them to explain my situation. As it turns out this lady was a manager and refused to exchange my shoes. She immediately wanted to know the name of the person I talked to the day before. Well how the heck would I know. I didn't ask him. It didn't occur to me that there would be an issue. Well needlees to say I was treated like dirt. This lady made me feel like a liar and a theif. It's not in my nature to get angey or insult anyone in anyway. But I got pissed and told the lady so. I mean I have worked in retail management myself for 30 years and I know you do not treat customers the way this lady treated me.
So I ask for her supervisor's name and number. She gives me the customer service number. I come back home and call it but it is closed. I call around a couple of other Dicks Sporting Goods Store and they said that she should have given me in store credit. That I really didn't have to have my receipt. Well I do question the receipt thing. So I look up the receipt on my credit card purchase and take a copy of it back into the store for the exchange. I see this store manager on her way out and told her I copied it. She seemed to ok with that but still had an attitude and gave a discussed smerk. Well I know I was not so nice because they inconvienced me. To top it off I was sick today so I'm sure I had an attitude as well to be perfectly honest. Anyway there was the nicest little young girl who waited on me after that. So I don't want to complain about her. She was kind and professional like.
But when I went up to customer service to do the exchange, they had to call another manager upfront because they didn't know how to do the exchange. Even he started to question me about what the other manager said and ask me what she said how to handle it. And then turns around and says that he was there when I talked to the lady manager. I asked him "what are you saying, you won't exchange it?" He said he would this time, like he was doing me a favor. I wanted to say my spending a lot of money in there store is doing them the favor. Then he started to tell me for future reference, well I stopped him in mid sentence and said "In the future I will never shop at a Dicks again." I will take my good money elsewhere.
Now I don't want to complain about all Dicks, the one in Nobblesville when I called them said they bend over backwards to make their customers happy and would be glad to exchange them.
I and my family have spent a lot of money in Dicks Sporting goods.
But never again. This was the first time I had ever exchanged anything and I'm just not accustomed to being made to feel like dirt.
This whole situation has caused me so much grief even after I showed proof of purchase.
I'm very disappointed in Dicks Sporting Goods Store.
