unauthorized charges
I received 3 seperate unauthorized transactions for $147 on my debit card. I did not place them and they won't talk to me becuase I don't have an order number! DUH, didn't place the order! That wanted me to fax my bank statement showing the charge!?! VERY poor customer serivce.
FYI - If anyone else has unauthorized charges check to see if you ordered anything from Easy Bakeware in the last 6 months or so. That seems to be a theme.

fraudulent charges
I checked my bank account and noticed 4 fraudulent charges from Digital River. One for $188.43 and 3 for $2.00 a piece. I searched the internet for this company and found all of these complaints. I couldn't send an e-mail because I didnt have an order number and I didnt know the email address the charges were made from. Dont get me started on the bank!!! They will not help me and I've had to cancel my debit card number. This company should be stopped from doing this. If anybody has an 800 listing for this company, please contact me with it.

Charge to Debit Card
A charge to my debit card of $103.97 was charged to my bank account through my debit card from this company. I am being told by my bank that it may take up to 2 weeks to get my money back. These people need to be stopped and prosecuted.

non delivery - bad customer service
I purchased a downloadable video game through digital river (Company Of Heroes). They charged me for the game and let me download and install it on my computer but the serial number they provided did not work. They have no phone number that I can find and advise that it will take 48 hours to respond to any support emails.
I sent an email and two days later got the following response:
Dear xxxxx xxxxxx,
Thank you for contacting the THQ Store.
I apologize for any inconvenience, however, we are currently unable to
issue an unlock code for your purchase. We are forwarding this issue to
our development team in order to resolve the issue. We will contact you
as soon as we have a valid unlock code for your game.
Sincerely,
Chad H.

I still have no 'unlock code' and they still have my money, and I am still waiting (another two days) for a followup response. I see many complaints against this company - DO NOT PURCHASE THROUGH DIGITAL RIVER - if you are a vendor - DO NOT CONTRACT WITH DIGITAL RIVER TO PROVIDE DRM FOR YOUR PRODUCT - They are a disorganized and incompetent organization and possibly criminal.

Fraudulent Debit Card charges
I bank on line and have for 7 years and buy on line all the time, but when I went on to check my bank account
(which I do daily with my first cup of coffee) and found 2 charges for a little over $500 to Digital River. I have never even heard of this company, but I tried to find a phone number. I still have not found a number that works for them. If anyone has a good number for them I would appreciate getting it. We are on our way to the bank first thinf this morning to file a fraud report and a police report. Thanks so much.

Poor service; privacy violations
Digital River is an omnipresent "third part vendor" that processes online orders for many companies. Think "intermediary" or "middleman". (I call them a parasite. Outsourcing is rarely a good thing . . . and, in my humble opinion, the use of Digital River is outsourcing at its worst.) THREE EXPERIENCES:
(1) When I decided to purchase security software for the used PC that a generous friend bought for me, I sought Trend Micro (based upon its favorable Consumer Reports review). Well into the online ordering process (via TM's site), I learned that I was, in fact, dealing with this entity I'd never heard of before (DR). I had occasion to contact them with a product question. They were, IMHO, characteristically ignorant and untutored about the products they had been enlisted to sell. (Such ignorance and poor training is the rule, not the exception, both online and inside real buildings.)
DR staff also made incorrect (read "false") statements to me regarding sales tax -- insisting that my order would be assessed tax, when in fact it should not have been.
I decided to visit a Best Buy store instead . . . where I gladly paid more for the TM software, and gladly paid state and local sales tax, just to avoid having DR in my life.
(2) I ordered a fancy clock radio from Boston Acoustics, online. At the END of the multi-page ordering process, there's a tiny disclosure, on the bottom, that it's DR we're dealing with. (I didn't see it.) Worse, when one calls a toll-free customer service number provided by Boston Acoustics, one is in fact dealing with DR (even though the calls are answered, "Boston Acoustics" !) The online order form malfunctioned; I would have received two products, and been charged twice, if I hadn't been paying attention. Worse, the product -- packed and shipped by DR staff -- arrived in a plain, unmarked box (the Boston Acoustics box and product were inside), which bore NO "This Side Up" or "Fragile" markings whatsoever. The internal cushioning materials were also insufficient to protect the item adequately.
(3) I learned that DR -- unfortunately, like MANY companies today -- kept (and intends to keep) my credit card number stored in its database, indefinitely. . . this despite what I, an attorney, believe to be vague and inadequate disclosures that DR does so. (WHY does any company need to store such vulnerable info in its non-secure systems, especially if we are not, and don't intend to be, repeat customers?) Like all companies that do this, DR of course says its systems are "safe". However, we all know there's no such thing; in any event, the CHOICE of whether to trust any system to safely store our info -- from outside hackers, or inside thieves and info-peddlers -- should be OURS to make, not theirs.
A close reading of DR's Privacy Policy and Terms of Use led me to conclude that the wording is so open-ended as to grant DR a carte blanche. Legal staff told me that my info "could" be deleted at some point, but neither they nor their "disclosures" indicate when that might be. Furthermore, legal staff, citing those disclosures, assert that certain legal "requirements" mandate this approach. Said staff refused to IDENTIFY those statutes and/or regulations for me. I THEREFORE SUBMITTED AN ETHICS COMPLAINT TO THE STATE BAR OF MINNESOTA, REGARDING DR's LEGAL TEAM.
I urge all readers to tread carefully in dealing with DR, and to avoid them if at all possible. (Consider telephone orders, or visiting a brick-'n-mortar retailer instead.) I also urge you to start pressuring your state and federal legislators to outlaw the practice of storing our sensitive info without our consent, and without clear and conspicuous notice. (FYI, Target does this. Best Buy does it. ABE Books does it. One prominent car rental company even takes your date of birth off your driver's license, and stores IT!)

Incompetence, fraud, theft
On 24 March 2009 I ordered IMSI/Design Turbo CAD 16 and Design Tools in response to a promotional email from IMSI. The first thing that went wrong was that the Design Tools, available only by download, would not download. When I reported this, the instuctions I got from Christie O. resulted in "Web Screen Error" after several attempts. I reported this and received the same instructions again from Amber R. Note that there was no problem charging my credit card $99.95 - that process worked flawlessly. More later...
About this time Digital River advised that Turbo CAD 16 was backordered. Is copying software to a DVD really that complicated? In any event, frustrated by the download and now the backorder, I reconsidered and cancelled the order. Just so there is no confusion, the Digital River - IMSI Design site reported "This order has been successfully concelled. Your credit card will not be charged." (http://www.shopimsi.com/dr/v2/ec_MAIN.Master) When I requested confirmation (just call me skeptical!)of the cancellation and credit for my undownloadable download, Tony C. advised that the backordered, cancelled Turbo CAD 16 had shipped. He advised that I would have to refuse the package which entailed a special trip to UPS and that instructions to get credit for my undownloadable download would arrive in another email.
So, several days later when no additional emails or credits had arrived, I wrote the angry email. Subsequently, Ashley R. did credit me for the cost of the software. However, in a final flip of the universal unidigit salute to how much we care, they kept $10.75 for shipping of the backordered/confirmed concelled/shipped/refused TurboCAD 16. I have filed complaints with the FTC, the Minnesota AG and the Oregon AG just on principle.
When you shop for software, be careful who you are dealing with. Digital River does not actually make or market anything - they are just a fulfillment house. As such, their name is not displayed prominently. This is the site for IMSI Design shopping: https://www.shopimsi.com/dr/v2/ec_Main.entry. The tip off you are actually dealing with Digital River seems to be the "dr" in the url. Their billing is similarly obscured using only the initials "DR*" attached to some other name.
Caveat emptor.
