plumbing
I called Direct Energy plumbing division to have a leak in my bathroom repaired-the first plumber came said he didnt do crawl spaces, i called back the second time the plumber never even showed but told me we dont do crawl spaces-If you dont do crawl spaces Direct Energy then why waste my time booking these jobs

Use of Children in radio commercial
On Thursday morning June 2, 2011 on CHED Radio there was a commercial for Energy Direct using young children. Do not use children in advertising as it is exploitive and degrading to children. My son and daughter were also offended by the commercial.

Overbilling
I will not go into detail with all of the countless calls that I have made to Direct Energy and Atco.
I cannot believe the downright theft that has occurred from me ever since I moved out of a property in the wintertime.
My furnace was broken 6 MONTHS ago, and they still think it is fair to charge $150-200 per month for services not even used!! My furnace is not working, so I have not used ANY energy! I keep asking how it is fair to charge for something not used, but I never EVER get an answer. I would not even mind paying a measley $30-40 per month just to keep it hooked up, but we are talking ridiculous charges here. I even drove all the way out there to meet an Atco worker so that they could SEE I have not used ANY energy. Guess what Direct Energy says they owe me? $100 dollars when they have realistically overcharged me by over $1000. I am so angry about being taken advantage of like this, they just think people will keep paying it. There have been so many 'screwups', such as not 'cancelling' when I called months ago.
They just say they have no record of it?! How many times I have gotten the run around from them, it is like one big joke.
Regulated, my ass! They do whatever the hell they want!
I finally called and said, "Right, we are broken up, if this were a relationship, I would have a restraining order on you, I don't want anything to do with you, do NOT send me anymore bills, I want nothing to do with you!!"
I guarantee you all they know is sending out bills to people.
DO NOT USE DIRECT ENERGY IF YOU CAN HELP IT!!!
ABSOLUTE JOKE!!!
WE ARE ALL IN THE WRONG BUSINESS, IF YOU CAN CHARGE SUCKERS FOR NOTHING, NO WONDER ALL THOSE PROFITS COME IN FOR THEM!! SHAME ON THEM!

Billing
We moved out of our home in December, phoned direct energy to give our forwarding address to mail the final bill to. When we never received a bill from Direct energy in the month of December, I phoned about the bill to the customer relations department the agent on the other and of the phone declared that I did not have an account with them, and the account that we had previously held with them was paid in full. I stupidly assumed that the agent had her information correct and assumed the bill was taken care of. WAS I EVER WRONG!! As we are finding out now there was a 63 dollar balance remaining on our bill that has now been sent to a collection agency to collect payment. When I spoke with a direct energy agent I was at first told that we indeed DID not have an account with them!!! I phoned back and spoke to a second agent who told me we DID have and account, was owing the 63 dollars that the collection agency was asking for, that they has sent us 2 bills and called 2 times... Ummm never recieved a bill, there were no calls. Asked to speak with a supervisor who then told me there were 3 bills sent out within 2 weeks, (according to the dates she listed), and we were phoned 2 times and the phone was busy. They told me to call canada post about not recieveing the bills and that we should contact our phone service provider to see why the calls had rang busy when we have CALL WAITING that goes directly to voice mail when on the other line. Why is it that this company will not take responsibility for the mistakes of SEVERAL of their employees... and admit that this is not entirely our fault?? Yes, I shouldn't have believed the first agent I spoke to, but I assumed they were doing their job!! I will never use direct energy again if I can avoid it in any way!!!

door to door sales
I had yet another door to door sales man come to my home trying to rook me into switching to Direct Energy.
This time he came to my home at 9:00pm. That's right - night time. I told him to go away. Then I E-mailed a complaint to Direct Energy about the constant Harassment. The response I just recived said - we don't have door to door salesmen? Excuse me? I am going to call and talk to a human being - this should be a great stress reliever.
I also have been a victum of the "Direct Energy Contract Scam." 4 years ago I had to pay $3000.00 to Stop paying 11.99/kwhr. The rest of the world was paying 7/kwhr. I wish I had a lawyer back then.

Consumer HARASSMENT
I live in the Baltimore Maryland area U.S and I recieve calls daily up to 2 times a day from direct energy asking me if im saving on my current electrical bill and requesting I make the switch.. they have even called at 9pm a few times. If that's not enough they have door to door 'representatives' coming around at 8:30pm - 9pm every few weeks. If this isn't harassment I don't know what is... How do you make it STOP!

Direct Energy comes to your door and asked to see your currant bill with London Hydro They offer you a fixed price on your hydro, but don't tell you that you will be paying the Provincial Benefit over and on top of the rate that they give you. The Provincial Benefit was always and still is included in the London Hydro Rates. The Price they fixed me at was 8.49 cents per kwh and now with the Provincial benefit billed separately the cost is 12.398 cents per kwh not what they quoted me. This amounts to quite a bit of money and when I asked to cancel the contract they want to charge me a very large cancellation fee. Crooks

Year's increase to be billed on December bill
Just got a letter stating that Direct Energy just dicovered a processing error in our monthly water heater rental rate. So our December bill will include the difference between 2009 and 2010 rental rates. BUT I should be happy because they are taking steps to make sure it does not happen again.!! Also no indication of the amount they will be billing.
Evidently 25000 people are affected. They should suck it up it is their mistake
Plus the notice came after the billing went into effect.

Collections
I too was promised lower rates and signed a contract for my previous house. Low and behold the rates from Hydro One were much cheaper actually HALF THE COST! We recently moved houses and I decided to go back to Hydro One. No where was I told that the contract followed me. As far as I was concerned it is null and void when I changed homes. I was hit with a $700 fee for apparently "breaking the contract". They never had cheaper rates from the very beginning so the sales people lied from the very start. Do not get mixed up with this company. They are the ultimate rip off artists.

Fraud
My wife and I have been put through the ringer by Direct Energy. A few months ago we noticed on our Enbridge Bill that we had charges from Direct Energy for a Water Heater. We have never signed a contract with Direct Energy and already have a water heater from another company. We decided to contact Enbridge to rectify the problem but were redirected to Direct Energy. What ensued was a series of phone calls in which we were kept on hold for hours or were told that we would receive a call back but none came. Finally after 5 hours of wasted time we agreed to have one of their ‘techs’ come in to actually see that we don’t have one of their water heaters. He came to our house and verified this. We thought that it would be over after this but the next month we got another bill from Enbridge with charges from Direct Energy. We contacted Direct Energy again and after several calls and after being put on hold for several hours we were told that since the original tech forgot to put in notes that the water heater was not from Direct Energy we would have to have yet another tech come into our home (wait 4 hours for this) to verify again. At this point I realized that they were giving us the run-around. I decided to contact the Police and they told me that there have been a lot of complaints but that there was nothing they could do since this was a Civil matter. They basically said to ignore the Bills from Direct Energy and if they go into collections and they start harassing us then we could call the Police. The problem is that Enbridge has the power to turn off our gas if we don’t pay ... Could you please help?
There seems to be something very wrong if a company like this is allowed to continue doing ‘business’. I think what is needed is a class action lawsuit large enough to put them completely out of business. If there are any lawyers out there that would like to get involved I can set up a website and we can start signing people up for a class action lawsuit. Please contact me at [email protected].
