Ripped off and lied to
Initially, our household was using Cox Communications for our cable services. Then, while calling AT&T on my home phone service, I was addressed by a male customer service person and asked if I would be interested in bundling all of my services and switching to AT&T's Direct TV for cable services. We had been previously frustrated by our inability to record more than 2 programs at any time with Cox. The salesman informed me that with Direct TV, I would be able to record as many channels as I wished. This was an outright lie. The system can record 2 channels at once, exactly like the Cox system I already had. Then, I was given a quote. The quote included charges for the different boxes we ordered. We ended up ordering 5 boxes with all of the channels. Then, I provided the salesman with our checking account information. I first began to realize everything was going horribly wrong when I reviewed my checking account and realized that $300.00 more than the amount I had authorized had been deducted from my account. I am not a person who is forgetful or distracted easily during business conversations, and I am 100% certain that the $300.00 was not stated. I assume that the salesman was afraid his deal wouldn't go through if I had been informed of this charge. I plan on calling the Bank of America to try to appeal the charge. Then, today, I called in after realizing that our "On Demand" system was not functioning. I was on hold for 45 minutes before getting help, and then informed by technical support that there was a receiver that I would need to have them install on my wireless router in order to use any of the on demand or pay per view functions on the Direct TV system. Then, they informed me that this would cost me $150.00 and would require another installation appointment. I asked why I hadn't been informed in the beginning that I would need this receiver in order to utilize the system as it was advertised, and asked how I was to know that this would be needed without someone informing me. They acknowledged that I indeed should have been informed. I asked them to please waive this fee, due to the extent of services we are purchasing from their company. I was placed on hold again and then informed that they would not be willing to waive the fees. I asked them to cancel my account. I am now about to be charged $400.00 in cancellation fees, and will be stuck with their ugly Direct TV satellite on my roof. They refuse to remove it, of course. This company is a huge SCAM, and my husband and I are out almost $1000.00 over this terrible decision. We have truly been swindled. I feel that AT&T / Direct TV has literally stolen from me. Be very careful. I have never had such an outrageous experience in my life.
