Poor service falls advertising
First I called Century Link who suggested Direct TV, during the first call Direct said so much a month for 1 year contract. The 3 months later they raised the box lease fee $ 2.00 per box. When I called they said there was no contract just an agreement about the monthly amount. Today I hade no signal on my TV, when I called they tried to fix the problem but said they could not so they would sent a service person and it would cost $ 49.95. Because I did not take the extented warranty. I lease the equipment and not matter how they twist it is there responsibility. I am sure this is not the first complaint. So tell me do you do anything about theses complaints? Not only do they lie about the amount they lie about the contract period. Looking for some help.

Unhappy with installation.
I AM VERY UNHAPPY WITH YOUR INSTALLATION SERVICE AND YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPT.!!! I HAVE TRIED FOR TWO WEEKS TO CONTACT YOUR COMPANY BY EMAIL AND PHONE WITH NO RESPONSE. I WAS ON THE PHONE FOR 1 1/2 HOURS TODAY WITH FOR 4 DIFFERENT SUPERVISORS UNTIL THE LAST SUPERVISOR (SCOTT) TOLD ME THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE I COULD SPEAK WITH AND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE HE COULD DO FOR ME AND HUNG UP ON ME. I REFUSE TO BE TREATED THIS WAY BY YOUR COMPANY AND HAVE REPORTED YOUR COMPANY TO THE BBB. FIRST OF ALL WHEN I HAD MY SERVICE INSTALLED ABOUT A YEAR AGO IT TOOK THEM 3 WEEKS AFTER TAKEN $250 OFF MY CCARD (UPFRONT COST TO INSTALL). YOUR COMPANY CANCELED MY INSTALL TWICE BEFORE A TECH FINALLY CAME OUT AND THEN ONCE THE TECH CAME OUT (WHICH HE WAS 4 HOURS LATE) HE SAID I WOULD HAVE TO RESCHEDULE FOR ANOTHER DAY BECAUSE HE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH EQUIPMENT AND WIRE ON HIS TRUCK TO INSTALL MY HOUSE. NEEDLESS TO SAY AFTER TALKING TO CUSTOMER SERVICE AND HIS SUPERVISOR I WAS PROMISED A $50 CREDIT ON MY FIRST BILL (NEVER RECEIVED THE CREDIT) FOR ALL THE MISSED APPT. AND THE TROUBLE I HAD WITH THE TECH. THE TECH AND TWO OF HIS SUPERVISORS CAME TO MY HOUSE THAT EVENING AND INSTALLED MY SERVICE (MIND YOU THE TECH AND THE FIELD SUPERVISOR WERE VERY RUDE AND TRACKED MUD ALL THROUGH MY HOUSE WHICH I HAD TO PAY TO HAVE THE CARPETS CLEANED THE NEXT DAY.) WHEN THEY INSTALLED MY SERVICE THEY MIRRORED MY KIDS ROOM OFF OF ONE RECEIVER WHICH IS IN MY DAUGHTERS ROOM AND RAN A WIRE ACROSS MY HALLWAY UNDER THE CARPET TO MY BOYS ROOM LEAVING NO EXTRA WIRE TO RUN ALONG THE BASE BOARDS OR IN THE CLOSET (LIKE IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RAN THE FIRST TIME). SINCE THEN MY LANDLORD HAD ALL THE CARPETS PULLED UP (TWO WEEKS AGO) AND PUT HARDWOOD FLOORING IN. HE BROUGHT IT TO OUR ATTENTION THAT DAY THAT THE WIRE HAD BEEN INSTALLED THAT WAY AND THAT HE WANTED US TO HAVE YOUR COMPANY COME BACK OUT TO REWIRE IT THE CORRECT WAY. HE SAID THAT IT SHOULD HAD BEEN WIRED OUTSIDE THE HOUSE INTO THE ROOMS, ARE IN THE CLOSET OR EVEN UNDER THE HOUSE (SINCE IT IS ON PER AND BEAM) IT SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN DONE THAT WAY IN THE FIRST PLACE (SETUP FOR LAW SUIT) AND THAT WE NEED TO HAVE IT DONE BEFORE ONE OF MY KIDS GOT HURT ON THE WIRE. I WAS TOLD BY YOUR CSD AND SUPERVISORS THAT SINCE IT IS OVER 90 DAYS THAT I HAVE TO PAY $49 TO HAVE A TECH COME BACK OUT TO FIX THE LAZY TECH JOB. I REFUSE TO PAY FOR A TECH HALF @#S JOB AND I GUESS IF MY CARPET HAD BEEN TAKEN UP WITHIN THE 90 DAYS I WOULD HAVE NOT BEEN CHARGED (I GUESS I WAS SUPPOSED TO GO BACK BEHIND HIM AND CHECK EVERY WIRE TO SEE HOW HE RAN IT?) ISN'T THAT WHAT HIS SUPERVISORS WHERE SUPPOSED TO BE DOING WHILE THEY WHERE HERE? I GUESS YOUR COMPANY WOULD RATHER BE SUED THEN TO EAT $49 AND HAVE SOMEONE COME DO MY INSTALLATION THE CORRECT WAY BECAUSE THAT IS COMPANY POLICY AND NO ONE CAN AUTHORIZE TO DO A REWIRE FOR NOTHING!! THAT IS BULLS@#T!!! BUT YOU CAN MOVE AND YOUR COMPANY WILL COME OUT A REWIRE A NEW HOUSE FOR NOTHING ON YOUR SAME CONTRACT???? I TALKED TO DISHNET TODAY AND TOLD THEM THE PROBLEM I AM HAVING WITH YOUR SERVICE AND HOW MY ROOMS WERE INSTALLED-THEY LAUGHED AND SAID THAT IS CRAZY WHY DIDN'T THEY JUST PUT ONE RECEIVER IN EACH ROOM AND SIGNAL OFF OF EACH OTHER? GEE I DON'T KNOW? I WONDERED THE SOMETHING!! YOUR COMPANY DON'T HAVE THAT UPDATED TECHNOLOGY TO OFFER A BETTER SOLUTION? I WOULD HAVE PAID LESS TO GO WITH DISHNET AND GOT ALL 5 OF MY ROOMS INSTALLED WITH DVR IN TWO ROOMS FOR WHAT I AM PAYING YOU GUYS TO HAVE STANDARD BOXES IN TWO ROOMS WITH NO DVR AND MY KIDS HAVE TO SHARE THE SAME TV SHOW. THAT IS REALLY SCREWED UP!!! PLUS YOU WANT ME TO PAY FOR YOUR SCREW UP!!! YOU TELL ME WHY I SHOULD STAY WITH YOUR COMPANY-WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO OFFER ME? NOTHING!!! TO ANYONE THAT IS CONSIDERING DIRECTV GO WITH ANOTHER SERVICE (GOOGLE DIRECTV COMPLAINTS AND YOU WILL SEE WHY.) cancallation fees
I called to cancel my service from Direct TV back in Febuary 2011. I was told that the service would suspended and that no bill would be due.
That was a lie to get me to stay longer. The rep applied a credit to my account so no bill was due until the second month, that is when I called to find out more information. If you cancel within the 60 days after a credit was applied they will charge you back the whole amount.
So what you do now is cancel your service and have them give you the credit on your account. Then call back to remove all the services down to the minium services, wait for the 60th day and cancel your service and they will pay you for cancelling.
***I HOPE THIS HELPS WITH ANY PROBLEMS (CREDITS) YOU MAY HAVE WITH DIRECT TV, OR AS I CALL THEM INDIRECT TV. ***

Stealing my Money
I called to cancel services and asked how to send my receivers in. A month later and still no boxes had been sent. DTV drafted $417 from my checking account without warning. Days later I received my shipping boxes to send the equipment back in and I did that. They have had the equipment back for a week and are telling me because the account is closed they can't process a credit for 6-8 weeks!!!

Bill inflation
Over a year ago I began looking into the possibility of changing from my local cable company to satellite tv. I thought Direct TV offered the best price AND service. At first they were fine to deal with and only minor problems arose. I was given the initial 6 month promotional package and then I expected the price to go up, but definitely not 3X's higher. Then when I went to speak to the company I was treated rudely and without any concern for what I was experiencing. This let me know clearly that all they wanted was my money and service or assistance to me the customer is of no value. Then I got another shock. I was told that I actually had a two year contract (which is how they can stick you with these exorbitant raises in prices) and if I cut the service, they would charge me $150.00 cancellation fee!!! I could not believe that I was being robbed in this manner, or treated so badly! These are incredibly hard times for everyone and I am no different. I lost my full time job and cannot afford either the "cancellation fee" or the increased monthly price. This has to be some type of "bait and switch" thing and has to be illegal. What's to say that they couldn't raise the price to $100.00 a month? This is wrong and I am amazed that the company CEO would allow this type of attitude and behavior. Don't be fooled by their advertisement as I was; they will get you in and then lie about things or place them in very small print and cheat you every step of the way!!

Fraudulent Billing of PPV Movie 6yrs later
I was a Direct TV customer for years until fall 2010 which I terminated my contract with them. Returned the chips as instructed. Yesterday, March 2011, received in the mail a overdue balance $10.68 stating due upon receipt. Called and was told it was a charge for PPV movie back in November 2005. Can you believe this! I was told it was found as a missed charge on one of the returned chips. I was taken back by this and asked how this could be. PPV movies are paid at time of service if not on the monthly statement besides 6 years later after--- what if I was still a customer with them? I asked for proof from them. I definitely disputing--- Now I am finding complaints by thousands on this same issue. I will be contacting my attorney general.

Suzanna - Supervisor
Been with Direct TV over 2 1/2 years and it is terrible when you have to wait on the line for a supervisor for over an hour and not get good customer service nor incentives for being a valued customer, but it's amazing when they want your service they would do anything to get you but nothing to keep you... I was just displease with this supervisor nonchalant attutide ... the customer service rep was more pleasant than the supervisor Suzanna... WOW! I would not recommend Direct Tv...

Direct TV is damaging or endangering people's lives carelessly
//////// Well, by all of us complaining here on this convenient website, we all are just not doing enough to bring the attention to the general public who are customers of DirecTV and those who are considering becoming customers of DirecTV. There has to be major lawsuit against DirecTV which forces them to pay, at least, tens of thousands of dollars for pain and suffering to their customers for breach of contract or for purposefully draining people's checking and savings account after the customers have told him not to do that and even after the service department at DirecTV told the customers that would not happen to them what ended up happening anyway. And these events aren't just happening occasionally are happening many many times more so than people are aware of and we only hear about those who end up coming across this website that allows people to share their experiences they had with asinine companies like DirecTV. Then, the nationwide news networks will pick up and carry the story and broadcast across the country about how DirecTV drains customers checking and savings accounts and causing them financial hardship by not being able to buy food and medicine or even paying their bills which is a serious personal issue that is seriously affecting people whom have been lied to and have the contract processed when customers have not agreed to any contracts!! Then, when thousands of potential new customers of DirecTV hear about this they will not give their business to DirecTV which does affect DirecTV and most importantly the stock values of DirecTV! Now their poor service is catching up to them and causing their stock values to decrease which may cause a panic for smart investors to pull their money out of DirecTV investments they've made in the past. And then when DirecTV stocks start to decline sharply professional investors who don't know the issues regarding the poor asinine service and actual zero management control, obviously, they too will pull their money out automatically causing DirecTV stocks to plummet! Then, one of two things will happen to DirecTV. Either they will go bankrupt and another corporation will buy them out and change the name and keep all equipment or this administration who was allowing this crappy service to continue over and over throughout the years will get fired and replaced with better people and better guidelines and restrictions about what they can and can't do when making contracts with new customers and a safety system to keep any DirecTV service employees from deliberately taking any money out of any customers account without a personal verification of those actions to be taken only when a customer approves of it, somehow. So, if there is a person or a group of people out there whose personal health has been seriously affected by not being able to get medicine because their account balances were zero due to DirecTV's unappropriate and unapproved actions of draining their personal accounts, then a serious lawsuit can be taken and will be taken on contingency by almost any lawyer who sees a large financial gain! And this lawsuit information will end up on TV cable and satellite exposing DirecTV for what they really are and how much real pain and suffering are causing people and in some cases causing near death! Also, can somebody who knows how to get this information out to the public by using iPod or Facebook or whatever type of information giving and gathering systems there are and help expose DirecTV to millions and millions of people?

To the best that I knew how I have tried to explain below what went on with this matter, I am a 62 year old man with a heep of medical problems only receiving ss disability but have enough fight in me to help go after these crooks my wife done all this over the telephone except for the man coming out and installing the service and the only thing she signed was the installing sheet that we received no copy of i am enclosing my statement below please respond back to me.

I called direct tv in Feb. to have m y service disconnected due to poor service, and my finances and they did not cut it off at that time but today I got this bill that said I was past due showed my prevs. Balance of $137.05 –showed a disconnect fee for $15.00- showed an early cancellation fee for $300.00 for a total of $477.21.
Well I called the local office and explained to them I was never told there would be a early cancellation fee they said that it was in my contract well I don’t even remember getting a contract as this was done over the phone well they could not help me, So I looked up who the pres/ceo was got his phone # as 1-800-347-3288 called and some lady answer the phone I first asked for the ceo she said what could I do for you he is not in but if you have a problem that is my job.
Well I begin to explain to her what had happen that they had cleaned my bank acct out plus cost me a nsf fee as there was not enough money in bank for what they got I had already asked them several months ago not to take any more money out of my debit card and they agreed not too but they did, she said I am so sorry to hear that but let me see what I can do for you said can you hold, I said yes after a few minutes she came back to the phone and said sir I done some research on your acct and everything is on the up and up but I did notice where you called in feb to have it disconnected and they did not do it so I am going to refund $11.00 for that and I am going to refund the $15.00 disconnect fee since you did call in but as far as the $300.00 I cannot help you there as that is our company policy well some more things where said and she finally said that the only way we could refund the early cancellation fee would be if you reconnected back to direct tv I was happy about that I said could I go to a cheaper rate like the $29.95 rate and she said sure you could I saod ok let’s do that, she then said ok can you hold for a moment I said sure, so she came back a little later said that for them to do this that I would have to pay what is past due then this is where she started doing what they are trained to do: she said that since they have got the money that I will not have to pay anything to get reconnected and there would be a little money left over for future bills, then I said ok but the $300.00 plus would go back into my acct at the bank so my bills would get paid right she said no sir you will not be getting any money it will go into your direct tv acct then I got upset I said lady that does not help me one bit on what I am trying to do and I told her you know that I said I needed the money to go back into my acct for bills I had coming through she said sir I am sorry you misunderstood me, but, I said but nothing lady I did not misunderstand one single word then I told her you are playing the same games with me that all the direct tv complaint sites say about you guy’s then I told her lady my past due bill is only $137.05 if you take away that amount from the $396.00 you took out of my bank acct that would leave $259.00 that would be refunded back into my bank acct. then she said sir you not understanding me you have a early cancellation fee, I said wait a minute lady you said you would waive that if I came back to direct tv, she said sorry sir you are so right but you also have a disconnect fee, I said wait a minute lady you said you would also waive that, she again you are right so I need to do some refiguring so she can back and said sir after refiguring everything you will have $86.00 credit on your direct acct. listen to what she is saying here she is still trying to confuse me but I am hanging in there with her she then tries to say the last time she came back to the phone sir you are forgetting about the return of the equipment as soon as we get that you will then get about $180.00 back once we get that at our warehouse I then got very upset and I said lady will you please just take a breath and listen to what you just told me, I said you just told me that I owed for the equipment, well how would I owe for equipment if I was not going to return it as we both agreed that I was going to get reconnected she tried to get out of that but just got herself deeper in a hold, I said lady it is time for me to go I have been on this phone for over two hours with you and to break this thing down, I told you what I needed from you----- you said the only way I could get it would be to come back and get reconnected---I agreed to do that, then you started putting me on hold while you spoke with your boss and or tried to figure out what to tell me next----- each time it was something different---- but to top it all off lady your finally attempt to screw me you tell me that I am owing you for equipment lady that blows my mind why would I owe you for something that we have agreed to reconnect she just said nothing then I just told her lady I tell you what I am going to give you my e-mail address and give you a chance to go to your boss man or who ever makes the finally decisions and get them to refund my money that you guy’s cleaned out my bank acct and now has me in very very deep crap or I can promise you that if I do not hear from you by this afternoon I will see an attorney tomorrow this is not a treat this is a promise. She said ok but we are not allowed to e-mail so I need a number to call you if we make a differ decision so I gave her my son’s number.

Direct TV is the most unreasonable company that I have ever dealt with. I signed up for Direct TV a few months ago. When I called I asked for HD and the works which was all free with a new customer. When the man came to install the system, I was informed that the order did not request HD and I told him that I had requested it. I would be purchasing a new Hd tv within the next few months and I wanted to get it now. He told me no problem I will go ahead and install this and when you want to change just give us a call and all I will have to do is change the dish outside. You won't even have to be home. I called today and found out that the cost will be $3oo for a new receiver. When I complained I was told that the person that installed did not know what he was talking about and I should have called and had it changed at the time it was installed. I was spoken to very rude by 3 different people. I informed the rep that I will be cancelling my service.
