Unauth. withdrawel of funds
Monsters! Thats the word that comes to mind when discussing the business practices of Direct TV. Two days before Christmas, Direct TV decides to withdraw over $500 from a co-workers account, without notification. She had discontinued service with Direct TV back in June, and now without warning, in December, they take over $500 out of her account. She hadnt even received a bill from them since June either. There is something sooooo wrong about this. My question is who can she contact to dispute this? The local rep from Direct TV refused to give her the corporate number to complain, which makes this situation even more questionable.

CROOKS!!!!!
WANTED THE NFL TICKET BECAUSE CABLE DIDN'T OFFER IT. PAID 70.00 A MONTH FOR IT THE FIRST SEASON. SUSPENDED SERVICE AFTER FOOTBALL SEASON UNTIL THE FOLLOWING YEAR. WHEN WE ASKED TO HAVE OUR SVC. REINSTATED, WE ASKED FOR THE SAME PACKAGE AS THE PREVIOUS YEAR. DIRECT TV FAILED TO INFORM US THAT THE SERVICE WAS NOW 182.00 PER MONTH. DIRECT TV HAD MY CREDIT CARD # ON FILE AND AUTOMATICALLY CHARGED ME FOR 6 MONTHS!!! wHEN I COMPLAINED, THEY REFUSED TO GIVE ME A CREDIT FOR THE EXTRA CHARGES. i ASKED TO CANCEL, THEY CHARGED ME 160.00. THEY ALSO SAID THEY WILL CHARGE ME FOR ANY EQUIPMENT THAT IS NOT RETURNED. i AM RETURNING ALL EQUIPMENT, BUT THIS COMPANY IS NOT TO BE TRUSTED!!! i AM AFRAID THEY WILL CHARGE MY CREDIT CARD WHATEVER THEY WANT, JUST AS THEY HAVE BEEN DOING. pLEASE DONT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM, THEY ARE CROOKS!!!

Rotten Company
Direct TV is about the worst company I can think of right now. Their customer service department is a joke. They have no idea what they are talking about so they make up an answer. Everytime you call about your bill you get a different answer and the price is usually different also even when you have the bill in front of you.
The service department is the WORST. He came to install the new equipment, he was 3 hours late, got a personal phone call and left his garbage in my yard.
The equipment does not work properly so he was suppose to come back, and again he was more than an hour late
AND TO TOP IT ALL OFF IT STILL DOESN'T WORK PROPERLY. THERE ARE PIXELS IN ABOUT EVERY SHOW AND WHAT EVER YOU PUT ON THE DVR.
AND FOR ALL OF THIS THEY CHARGE AN ARM AND A LEG!!! AND THE REBATE I WAS SUPPOSE TO GET HAS (OF COURSE) NEVER ARRIVED.
THE GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO REGULATE LIARS LIKE THESE SOMEONE NEEDS TO MAKE SURE THEY AREN'T SCREWING THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

Terrible experience
Just a consumer aware with Direct TV.

I was a loyal customer for over 5 years and always paid online. This was until our dvr box decided to stop working the morning after they had sent one of their usual automatic updates to it.

I called the rep to be told I would have to pay $70 for a tech to come and look at the box, then pay an additional $300 if it had to be replaced. I had no time limited contract with them from being a customer for so long and thus I also found out that I owned the DVR box, so it was my responsibility that it broke.

You could imagine my surprise and I requested to speak to a supervisor, which after being on hold for ever, I was hung up on. I called back and was then told by a different rep that I also had the option to sign up for their monthly service plan which would eliminate the tech fee, but would be an addition $5+ a month. I explained my frustration that they were the ones in control of the box, I had done nothing to it, yet I have to pay for it. So why would I have to pay for a service when they could just send a signal and kill your cable box whenever they wanted too ... sounded like a scam to get you to sign up to their service plan ...

It took me 5 minutes to cancel my service with Direct TV and sign up on a much cheaper bundle package with Comcast. A few days past and I regularly check my bank account. I found that Direct TV had taken my last payment of $64 which was not even due yet, straight out of my account. I was not on any form of automatic payment with them, and had chose the option to pay 1 time only via credit card each time I paid my bill online. I called them to ask them why they had done this as it was not authorized, their answer was ... Oh we updated our contract agreement recently and you would have gotten a copy with your statement in the mail. If you cancel your account, we are allowed to take the remaining balance immediately out of whatever account you have saved with us online that you have been making payments with in the past.!!!.

So BEWARE of making any payment online to them through the direct TV web site. Stick to making them directly through your own banking system or send a check when you get your statement. If not you will get an unpleasant surprise with probably a lot of NSF fees to follow.

Funny thing is that they now call and send me junk mail trying to get my business back, not in a million years Direct TV, you lost a very loyal customer and your not the only ones to offer all those channels anymore, DUH!!!

BILLING
I am SOOO sick of these corporations!!! First they terminate my service without my prior knowledge, and I was current, by mistake. Then the deduct almost $500 from my account for the early termination fees!! Two weeks later they put the money back but not after I have incurred $300 in bounced check fees thanks to the unauthorized withdrawal. Now a week before Christmas, with my husband laid off, Direct TV is fighting me to pay back the fees and I can't even pay my morgage! But all these big companies cry that they are hurting financially. They have NO idea what that means. Putting food on the table and paying electric and heat, now thats what is important. I will never watch Direct TV again for as long as I live and will proceed to tell EVERYONE about this, including the govenor and attorney generals office. Thank you for letting me vent!

Fraud and cheating
I am really mad at Direct tv's customer service. I referred Pauline a couple months ago to Direct tv. I gave her my acc. # and the # to refer a friend, 866-443-8869. She hooked up with Direct tv. She Gave them My account name and number and said we would get $10 credit on both our bills for 5 months. When we got our first bill there was no credit, so I emailed direc tv. I was told we didn't call the right number. I know the right # was called because we still have the paper I wrote the # on that Pauline called from. So I called direct tv to tell them their wrong. I talked to a girl named Erica. She said she seen that Pauline did call from the right number and she would fix it and that we would get the $10 off on the next months bill and for 5 months. Well, I see the next months bill and there is still NO $10 credit. So I called (10-28-08) The man said that Erica told me wrong and Pauline did not do the proper procedure to get the credit. I was so mad I could of spit nails through the phone. WE DID DO EVERYTHING RIGHT !!! SHE CALLED FROM THE RIGHT NUMBER, SHE GAVE THEM MY ACCOUNT INFORMATION AND GOT THE RIGHT PACKAGES ETC. I don't think this man (was so mad 4got to get his name) ever told me what she didn't do right just that Pauline didn't go through the right process. Like I told him, 'Just because you guys didn't enter something on your end right, is not our fault and we DID do our part right !!! ' He refuse to fix it, and I told him it was a scam !!! So I went to Pauline's house to let her know we wasn't going to get the credit. She said that its a bunch of baloney. So she called and talked to Mathew and he said that WE WERE ENTITLED TO IT. He fixed it and says we will get the credit in 6-8 weeks. Another Wait...

Now tell me, is this a run around over a scam. OR Do people just not know what they are doing in your customer service area!!!

I use to have a very high opinion of Direct tv, and now I am embarrassed over this ordeal. I will be very pleased If I do receive the credit Pauline and I are entitled to, my faith and opinion will be mostly restored in Direct tv's customer service. Other wise I will let every one know what I think. Business are still in business like this because of Scams, thats how they have been in business so long. They get people to think they are legitamate, with promostions, promises, and too good to be true type things. Customers call on their promotion told all the right things, then after they have signed for 12-24 month contract then they pull the rug out from under then, then they are stuck in a contract they can't affordable get out of but yet direct tv's are not liable for their promotion ad's and are able to scam people. I will never refer anyone to Direct tv; I don't care if they promise me a million, because I know their promises are as empty as their heads are. Every call is suppose to be recorded, therefore all should be able to be verified. They don't care to satisfy customers, why, they have us by our yinyang in a contract. I personally think these contracts should be changed. If we want out of a contract where we know we have been done wrong especially in the first 3 months, we should be able to with out paying a penalty. I think these contracts are a way for companies to run scams, mislead consumers, and just plainly RIP OFF folks. I will see if they honor their last promise from Mathew. mean while, I have sent Direct tv another email explaining they whole ordeal similar to this report, and will see what they email me back. Who knows. Probably another run around. For anyone reading this, I wouldn't tell you what to do, but please BEWARE and AWARE. I do not recommend Direct tv persay their promotions. My mistake is I didn't check into 'rip offs' and similar sites before referring someone. I don't always believe everything I read, but when I read more bad than good, it probably means they are BAD. If I can, I will let you know how this turns out.

VERY Poor Service
I purchased Direct TV and only after I was committed, was told that it would not be installed for what came out to 30 days later. I would have told them to cancel but was already bound by the $480 cancellation fee. So I bit the bullet and waited. The install went great, the techs (sub contractors) were very good.
Well, 10 days later (today) my HD Receiver bit the dust. I called for service and now have to wait till January 1st - that's two weeks without the use of the system.

Avoid Direct TV - they take your money and provide you with NOTHING!

I am hoping some lawyer reads all these negative posts about Direct TV and starts a class action against Direct TV!

over charged
After cancelling service with Direct TV on Nov. 13 because of moving to a condominium and not being allowed satellite service, paid the balance of the account in order to cancel service, asked if they needed the equipment back and was told, no they did not want the equipment back. Today one month later on Dec. 15 we receive a new statement of service for 63.69. Called customer service, got transferred 3 times and finally connected to a representative which kept insisting that we never cancelled the service. It was a vicious service. Asked to talk to the manager and was told it was not possible, he could resolve it, but he kept insisting we never called to cancel. Well they are never going to get the 63.69 from us, they are thieves!

Unauthorized billing
Direct tv stole $891.87 from our checking account without authorization. We called them and they claimed we authorized this theft when we signed a contract with them.

We canceled our service with them because of the crappy service we were getting. Could not watch the tv most of the time due to no signal and when we would call it would take weeks to get it fixed.

We were 2 months short of our contract and when we signed up for their service we paid a 300 dollar deposit. They claim that was connection fees. We paid connection fees also. The $300 was specifically called a deposit!

Direct tv told us they would refund part of the money they stole when they receive their equipment back but not all of it. The deposit we paid is just theirs according to them so in all these charlatains stole 1191.87 from us.

Wow for some tv we couldn't watch for about 2 months out of the 10 we had their crap service!!!

false advertising
i ended up getting direct tv, mostly for the kids channels since cox didnt haven them all where we live. direct tv told me my first bill was going to be the normal fee of around $64.99, but after that it would go down to the $34.99 per month that they had been advertising. so, i went to go check my second bill and i was surprised to see that it still had the normal fee on my second bill! i called to speak with a representative and he told me that i had not submitted my redemption forms...whatever those were. no one had said a word to me about those!! apparently they had come with my first bill - i do not remember getting any paperwork with my first bill that needed to be signed and sent back. of course i complained, but that accomplished nothing and he said there is nothing he can do other than electronically submit the forms...which he did in 5 seconds. so now im still being billed twice the advertised amount because i had not submitted these "redemption forms" that no one had told me about. im wondering if this is just a gimmick for them to collect more money. im not happy about this one bit!
