rebate referals 50/50 visa cards
I responded to the Direct Tv hook-up through my daughter for a 50 dollar referal for each of us, then I refered my cousin for the same deal. We called and maile in the referal form. They are telling us now that we don't qualify because Direct Star Tv hooked us up and we were suposed to call an 866 number to get our rebates. We were not told that in the begining and it is not our fault that they sub the connecting work out to Direct Star Tv company. WE WANT OUR $50 rebate visa cards.

pay per views
On several occassions we have tried to order pay perview ballgames from Direct TV and in the middle of each game they misteriously go off. For example today I called and ordered Auburn vs. Arkansas game and 15 minutes into the game it goes off. I then call Direct TV not once but twice and both customer service reps. told me two different stories. It appears that NO ONE at Direct TV knows what's going on. Not to mention let it come a rain shower and you can forget about watching the channels you pay for. Are customers ever refunded when these things happen? NO But they want their money each month or your service is disconnected. Poor Service, Poor customer service!! I wouldn't advise anybody to purchase Direct TV, well not if you want acceptable service. I think they should pull their ads about their wonderful service because in the real world it doesn't exist.

TAKING AND NOT REFUNDING WHEN WRONG
TRIED TO APPLY FOR DIRECT TV OVER THE INTERNET, BIG MISTAKE!!! SALESMAN CALLS ME, SAYS HE CAN GET ME HOOKED UP FOR AN ACTIVATION FEE OF $21.99, SO I GIVE HIM MY CREDIT CARD NUMBER, AFTER PUTTING IT THROUGH HIS SYSTEM HE TOLD ME MY CREDIT WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO HOOK UP WITHOUT RIDICULOUS PRICES! SO I HANG UP! SALESMAN CALLS BACK AND SAYS THAT HE CAN GET ME DISH, AND GET A $1.00 ACTIVATION AND SAYS THAT HE CAN GET IT IN COUPLE OF DAYS. COOL SO I GIVE HIM MY CREDIT CARD NUMBER AGAIN. SO THAT NIGHT I CHECK MY CREDIT CARD OVER THR INTERNET AND DIRECT TV TOOK OUT THE $21.99 ACTIVATION FEE OF THE SERVICE THAT I DID NOT GET OR WAS APPROVED FOR. I HAVE CALLED DIRECT TV AND THEY KEEP TRANSFERRING ME ALL OVER AND NO ONE CAN GIVE ME AN ANSWER ON WHY THIS HAPPENED ! OF COURSE ALL THE PEOPLE THAT I TALK TO ARE NOT THE ONES WHO CAN CREDIT MY CREDIT CARD. I WONDER IF A PERSON EXSISTS??

Money
When Direct TV was partnered with AT&T, I ordered all the services, and explicitly asked for the services to be installed at the same time, so the billing would be together!!! Direct TV called me on the phone, told me that they could come on out to my house and put in my D.TV and the billing would be in conjunction with my other services. I told them I would prefer to wait until AT&T put in my phone & internet too. They told me they would need to come on out & install at that time or I would have to wait for at least another month because they were jammed with appointments, but they did have an appointment that day!
They totally pressured me and I repeated that I did NOT want to be charged & they said because they had to come on out early, that I would not be charged until all the services were in! The order for AT&T was messed up & I had been quoted the wrong price for the Direct TV according to the DirectTV representative, so rather than deal with them, after 6 days, I called Direct TV and ask them to UNINSTALL the service because I was going to wait to proceed. They sent me a BILL for $169.+ and have refused to do anything about it WHATSOEVER!!! The charge is erroneous, and a scam in my opinion!!!

False Representation/Bait and Switch
In June, 2008 I went online to find a satellite internet service. At the time, I had Dish TV. I went to WildBlue and filled out an online inquiry form. I got a response from Scott Armstrong ( [email protected]). He told me about a "bundle special" which would get me both WildBlue and DirecTV for 12 months for $70/month (39.95 for WildBlue and 29.99 for DirecTV) versus the "normal charge of $114/month". Since this amounted to savings or $44/month for 12 months I agreed and signed up. I have been on the phone with virtually everyone (mybluedish, DirecTV customer service, DirecTV internet support team) and can only get them to "reduce" my bill to $80/month. NO ONE seems to be able to, or cares to, honor the commitment of $70/month. Additionally, NO ONE who works for DirecTV either knows, or is willing to tell me, the name of their President/CEO (I NOW know, thanks to this website, that it is Chase Carey, who by the way, made over $5 million last year in salary/bonus). I would not have signed up had I not been promised the $70/month for both services. FALSE REPRESENTATION. They tell me I can have a "less expensive package" ... BAIT AND SWITCH. I plan to write more letters (to Carey, General Counsel, etc.) and to file a complaint with the Colorado Attorney General's Consumer Protection Section. Sad to say, I don't hold out much hope for getting what I was promised.

Unethical Practices
I am not sure who will receive this but for Direct TV services I am sure there is enough information provided for them to search my information.Where are the laws that protect consumers from companies do unauthorized credit checks. On the evening of 10/9/08 I presumed to contact Direct TV on behalf of my husband regarding a promo offer in the mail and I actually received very good customer service, the sales person was very knowledgeable. But I repeatedly stated that I was only calling to inquire about the products not order the service. I was asked my name, I said that I didn't have a job and that my husband is responsible for the bills so therefore I would not be placing a order. I was asked yet again, then I was asked if they could do a soft credit check, which the rep preceded to say that it would not be a credit check on me but a check on the address to see if the address qualified. I gave her no other information and then the next thing I know I being transferred to the resolution dept. People listen if I have a bill, yes it has to be paid. But this was not handled very professionally. I was asked 3 times about running my credit and 3 times I said no. Direct TV Rep did a credit check after saying no 3 times. I asked for a supervisor or manager 2 or 3 people got on the phone and refused to give me a supervisor, or a manager, their last name, their location, or even a help line. I was told by one rep she was going to drop the call. I am not a disgruntled old bill customer...I was highly upset the fact that I didnt give a social or anything or any approval and my credit was ran. I guarantee if I pull my credit report their is an inquiry by Direct TV. It is amazing that Direct TV would be quick to search someone information without permission but utterly refused to give any information about their own company. Which leaves to think why should I have given my maiden name when asked. You have already pulled my credit. Yes if there is a dispute it has to be handled. I feel baffled right now anybody could have called up and gave a common name as I have and you mean to tell me that gives you the right to run a credit check. I have just went through a process that just was settled in court for the same reason. Do the companies not know the laws? I am sure I will have enough money to pay any debt that I could possibly owe...If I had the service it would have been several years ago...and what is really going on. I just called in for info on an offer not to go through a hassle such as this. The reps have the sales pitch down pat but they may want to re train on the areas of obtaining consumer information. May the economy is so busted right now that no one cares about the Fair credit laws and such. Sorry I ever called in...

Rip off
When i subscribed to directtv i was told what great service they provide, etc. When i called to find out why my bill was 41.50 more than it should have been i was told NFL ticket was added to my account. I did not order this and hate the NFL. When i called to try and get this taken off and canceled, I was told by the "Phillipine" office that they would not do this. Even though i did not order it. they rip you off. I will see you in court, you scum suckers. I have a perfect 2-0 record looking to make it 3-0 at your expense.

Fraud and scam
I tried to get Direct TV for a year for my mom for her birthday. I scheduled to have it installed on her birthday. I made all the arrangements 3 weeks in advance. We waited and no one showed up. I called and they said there was some sort of fraud protection on the account. NO ONE EVER CALLED ME. I spent hours on the phone trying to get it straightened out.
When they finally came on a new delivery date, they switched out the contract terms and when my mom tried to call about it, they hung up on her!
Direct TV has horrible customer service!!!

Fraud and cheating
Up until my recent move, I have had directv for 7 years. I had two cable boxes in my home, one that I got originally when I signed up for Directv and another one I purchased several years later (Tivo Box). My original box was faulty and last year I called to ask for a replacement box and I asked if I could replace it with a Tivo box. They said no problem and I received it several weeks later and someone came and installed it. Many months later due to unforeseen circumstances, I had to move and since Comcast's bundle deal was a better deal, I switched. A few weeks after I canceled my services I was charged over 200$ which without my permission was taken out of my bank account, which consequently made me bounce a few checks. I called directv in outrage and their response was that I had signed an agreement when I received my new box for another two years of service and that they were allowed to take out that money out of my account. For the whole 7 years that I have had Directv no one ever mentioned that what I was signing was a contract and since when can companies take money out of your account without your permission. They are thieves and I will never again recommend them to anyone!
