Unfair termination fee!
When I moved my Direct TV service from one home to another in March, 2006, I was told if I canceled within a year there would be a fee. When I canceled in August, 2007, I was charged that $100 fee. The reason was that one of their receivers quit working in the spring of '07. I called them and they sent out a repairman who offered to replace it. I was told the cancellation fee was based on the fact that the new receiver could not be canceled for one year, and it was not the service but the equipment that mattered. I was never informed of this, but was told it was in an online agreement.

It is ridiculous and questionably legal that a company will not furnish working equipment that is leased, and will tie in that piece of equipment to the original service contract.

Unfair billing practice!
We have had Direct TV since spring of 2006. Last fall we ordered the ESPN game plan so we could watch our college football team. This past week we received our 9/2007 bill and they had renewed the ESPN game plan without our approval. When my wife called she was on hold two separate times for 30-40 minutes before getting a rude supervisor that would not cancel the service." Since the season had begun" We received our bill on Friday 8/31 and the season began that same week. This was the only time we were alerted to the charges. We had also canceled the package on the phone to Direct TV after football season last year. The supervisor told us that we had been notified of the renewal by a small line on the July bill with a 0 balance. HBO, and other premium channels can be dropped any time and fights can be ordered ala carte. They don't auto renew these automatically. We are canceling Direct TV and will short pay the last bill for the service. Don't get duped by Direct TV . This is a scam and they know it. I am reporting them to the Better Business Bureau as well.

Fraud & cheating!
In 2003 we opened an account with Direct TV. We were very dissatisfied and canceled our service. Then we were charged for something we shouldn't of been and refuse to pay. Keep this in mind, a week after we got our account my brother also got an account. When he called and gave his name and social security number their system kicked it out because he had one digit wrong. So it is suppose to be impossible to get an account if the social does not match the name. July of this year my husband was arrested on an old warrant for obtaining something under someone else's social. Come to find out our account had been in my husband's name but another man's social security number. After days and days of trying to contact someone we finally talked to a woman named Rebecca in their fraud department. She cleared the account of fraudulent activity but refuse to give a letter stating that it would be a liability because they cannot say for sure that my husband didn't do this on purpose. Even though their system is suppose to prevent something like this. If we wanted to obtain an account and make someone else liable for it then why in the world would my husband use his real name. Still have not got anywhere with them for a solution. Any suggestions would be great but the only thing we can think of is to hire a lawyer. Also if you ever get a chance to talk to Rebecca in the fraud department, find a really high bridge and jump off.

Unauthorized Debit Card Charges!
I helped a friend out one month and paid his bill online. He cancelled the service probably a year later and out of the blue Direct TV charges my debit card for the amount he owed, which wasn't even past due! To top it off, it overdrew my checking account and overdraft charges were applied. Of course this outraged me. They can't just out of the blue charge someones card especailly if the card isn't the account owner. They should be hit by a huge fine.. becuase were I'm from, America, it's illegal to take someones money without an authorization! I will get my money back from them one way or another. I am in the process of faxing this and that. I asked for the overdraft charges as well as the other money. If I don't get my overdraft charges back, I would love to take them to court. I don't care if it is more than what was ocured.

This is shady! Everyone beware of Direct TV!

Cancellation refund never received

They owe me a refund from cancellation since March of 2007. I have made several attempts to get my money, however I keep being told that the request has been made for me to get my refund. It is now August 8, 2007 and still I have not received anything. These people are absolutely no good, I don't believe anything that they say, not to mention the fact that you can't talk to an American when you do reach someone. If there is anyone out there that can help me find the Corporate Headquarters, please e-mail me with the information.

Beware of their scam and rip off!
My son received a call on his cell phone on the last part of June, this year just showed up on his caller I.D. as Direct TV. The man told him we were getting a upgrade on our services, since we had been a good customer the last 4 yrs. He asked my son for my credit card which I do not have, so he then ask for my S.S.# without thinking he gave it to him, he sat up an appointment,to be here on 7-3-07. When he came I was not home but my son was, The man hooked it up by the time I returned home it was all done. When I saw the van door it said Dish Network, on it. The man had me to sign a paper, which I did without thinking, I then ask if the 2 Companies had merged as 1, he said no. Then said sounded like I was scammed. So when he left I called &cancelled this & told her we were already with a cable co. She said it would be shut off at midnight, which it was not I tried to get hold of someone but did not get this resolved until around around the 27th of July with a balance of $249.00,Payment due this month of $ 196.49. And someone has made a $ 2.00 pmnt. on my account on 7-24-07 with a visa which I do not own. I thought you should know about this scam RIP OFF, ESPECIALLY FOR PEOPLE ON FIXED INCOMES LIKE MYSELF. Over all service and billing!
Don't ever give Direct TV a credit card or checking account number. I just canceled my service and they charged my account without any notice or approval. Their so called Customer Service is non-existent. They have to pay people $50 to subscribe. When I canceled my service, they offered me $150 to stay. I told them I wasn't a whore and to keep their money. I quit for valid reasons and if I wanted to stay I would.

Direct TV lied to me!
I was looking to try HD Programing and had heard Direct tv had a good deal, WRONG! I was unsure if I would like DirectTv service so when I ordered, I asked the Rep. " if I don't like the service, How long will I have to cancel" I was told I had Three (3) days.

So I made a date to have DirectTV installed and the tech showed up late, I had to supply a post and help dig a hole to mount the dish, Tech did a lousy install job, didn't hookup everything, then told me that some items would not work properly, finally 4 hrs later I got to watch tv, I was dissatisfied with quality and sound, so decided I would opt out. I called the next day and canceled my service. I unhooked receiver and put back in original box, hooked up my old system, now it gets bad, I check my banking statement and DirectTV has already taken out $212.43 for receiver, $80.30 for 1st month service. I figured I would get some or all of that back, because I had canceled in the alloted time. Then 10 days later DirectTV takes out another $290.07 for early cancellation, so now I'm out $582.80 for less then 2 days of mediocre service, so I call DirectTV for an explanation and was told that I had canceled before the agreed upon term of service, so I related what I was told when I ordered the service about having 3 days to make up my mind to keep or cancel and then I was told that as soon as you make the order, you're committed. I called again and was told basically that I was out of luck. I'm upset and still looking for a settlement of some sort and searching other avenues of getting some results.

My advice, DO NOT TRUST DIRECTTV,THEY ARE LIARS AND CHEATS!!

Poor product quality!
Is this company in America? Although each representative had names like Nick and Mark each one I talked to seemed to have learned the language in a fast course. I was on hold for a collective 3 hours over 3 days listening to the same song just to be transfered to the cancellation department who put me on hold even longer and when I finally reached a person and was explaining why I wanted to be canceled (customer service was terrible, trying to get someone over to get us connected was a dead end of multiple numbers and reps saying someone would call us after a week of this playing shenanigans, needless to say I gave up... football season is almost here MAN!) the man tried to tell me that I was incorrect, they wanted to tell me how many times I called and that I never called for technical support, I got irritated and told the man that I didn't need him telling me why I wanted to cancel was incorrect, I just wanted to be canceled RIGHT NOW... he hung up on me. You have got to be kidding me!

Poor service!
I was told i would get 140 channels, also 4tvs and 4 working receivers & remotes. I only have 3 working. So i called, and they tried to help me program my 4th remote, it would not program. They said it could not be programed. Now i have to sit right in front of my receiver and push the buttons on it to watch tv. My remote is useless. It should be extended now, i am tired of standing in front of the receiver for a long time to find a channel, especially when i am disabled.
