Unauthorized withdrawals!
Down in florida in the boon docks you have no cable so you get direct TV... 2 and half years ago with a 1 year contract np... then first year passes np contract time is done... Then the fancy much wanted direct TV with dvr comes out you really really want it but want no more service contracts. So you go down to your local wallwart and pay nearly 400 bucks for it so you will have no contract. Then you come home and turn it on with direct TV that you already have service with np... year and half goes by you go to move to place that has cable and so you decide to dump direct TV. So you call direct TV and they tell you there will be a 100 dollar fee for a contract termination and you have to send the receiver back... you say no way in hell i don't have a contract and i bought it outright.. they say no no you didn't... and you don't have the receipt from year and half ago to prove it so you say fine you can have the darn thing back but im not paying the penalty. They say yes you are, i say no i am not bill me... Then you find out the next day that they went into your bank account (that you only made one time payments to them with your visa part of your debit card) and deduct the money. So then you call them and say hell no you did not have authorization to do this put it back. When the direct TV replies" we sent out a form letter in april with everyones bill saying we would have authorization to go into bank accounts and do this for termination fee's." I respond "those were one time authorizations not permission for re-occurring withdrawals, and this is fraud. So then sit on hold for 3 hours with my bank filing disputes and fraud against direct TV. Just the stress i need.

Moral of the story any of you use a visa or any other form of online one time payment methods with direct TV take that information off of there now only pay them using billpay and bank issuing a check... even then they might still try to pop you... lol!

Deceptive company, real bad experience
This company is the bottom of the barrel. From the first phone call to disconnection they have been a nightmare. I only wished I had looked at this site before I switched from cable. Direct TV is deceptive in their selling techniques, their web site is deceptive and the customer service is really lacking as well. I say to anyone who is thinking of Direct TV, STAY AWAY,RUN, Do NOT go with them.

I only have had them 6 days and we have canceled. We had a HD DVR and a HD Receiver and both stick. They bragged about how much better their pictures were compared to my cable. That was an all out lie. Plus we have been through 3 HD DVR receivers in the week we have had Direct TV.

I have spent countless hours on the phone with these jokers and would have my calls dropped while I was on hold, then have to call them back and tell the same story all over again. I was to the point of recording my grievance on a recorder just so I did not have to repeat myself each time I was dropped.

To top it off they tried to re-nig on the agreement that if they did not resolve my problem they would void my contract with out penalty. I am waiting on them to send me the boxes to return this sub-par equipment and then I am contacting my credit card company to make sure they refund the $430 bucks I spent for the up-grades they do not mention in their commercials. If they do not I will dispute the charge.

I was never a great fan of my cable company and their deplorable customer service, but they were never like this company. For the last week I feel I have been kidnapped for all the time and effort I put into this, for something that is supposed to be stress free.. I hope if one person reads these comments and does not go with Direct TV, then these complaints will have paid off.

In closing I can say beware of what you are getting into with Direct TV, It is like getting in bed with the mob, you almost have to get whacked to be rid of these people.

Thanks.

Billing dispute!
I canceled my service with Direct TV last week because I got married and moved in with my husband and today I found an unauthorized charge on my bank account, I don't even have direct pay with this company nor was I under a contract although they claim I was because they sent me a replacement for a faulty DVR which they say automatically extended my contract without my knowledge. They closed my complaint without contacting me and then they wrote on my account that I knew about the extension which was completely false. They then charged me an early cancellation fee and took the money out of my bank account without my knowledge or authorization. I believe this should be a criminal offense for them to take money out of my account without my authorization.

Take a hard look at before signing!
In 1991 I became a customer of Direct TV. At that time it was an excellent satellite service provider. A few years ago that all changed. On my bill I had noticed that rates were being increased by $3.00. That doesn't sound like much and I understand from time to time companies have to increase there rates. However, this became a six month practice with Direct TV. In the past two years my satellite bill increased by $15.00. The reason said Direct TV was due to the fact HBO increased their rate. I didn't have HBO. This past April I switched to Dish work and canceled my account with Direct TV. The rude agent informed me I could keep the equipment even tho I had bought the equipment and installed it myself. The agent also said a final bill would be sent. I asked the agent if my service wasn't prepaid a month in advance and he said it was and I had a credit of $14.95 which would be mailed to me in six weeks. That was two months ago. Since that time I have been called no fewer then four times offering me the world if I come back. Fat chance of that. This is a company you really need to take a hard look at before signing. Customer service doesn't exist. They could care less about the customer. With Dish network I have talked to some of the nicest customer service folks. Always had an answer for my questions the few times I have called them. For any considering a satellite service provider consider dish network and see what they offer. They are miles above Direct TV in both service and programming packages.

Beware of this company!
On april 5 2007 i had direct tv installed, came in great for about 4 weeks then the tree in my front yard got its leaves in full and my local service along with some hd channels wouldn't come in anymore... So the nightmare began!!calling direct tv and finding out they really could care less about customer service, they wanted me to get an antenna for locals ha and waive the disconnect fee never... The tech who installed should have warned me before the install that there would more than likely be a problem according to a couple of direct tv reps ive talked to but that didn't happen and they aren't going to do anything about it. They use a contracted company to do the installs in my area, maz tech inc, anyway everyone is passing the buck... May 10 2007 i disconnected this mess to date has in all cost me about 600.00 with the early disconnect. I have made many calls and you never speak with the same person ever, what a joke... Also i signed up with the bundle package from verizon... Think they can get the fees waived?think again !! Im not happy with them either right now to let its customers get screwed like that !! Thought they were a better company than that too... Ive called cussing and ive called crying. Time for me to learn a lesson and spread the word - beware!

Lack of customer service!
It took me over a month to get Direct TV installed due to the inept installers that would show up, wasting four hours of my time at each visit. To try to lure me into connecting, a "customer service" rep. offered me a credit at activation. The day the activation call came in, even thought we had the agent's employee number, Direct Tv claimed the call never happened and refused to give us any credit. And since they took a couple of days of deactivate the system, now they claim we owe them the early activation fee. Direct TV sucks!!! Don't even try to fool with them because their agents are rude and will not help you!!!

I would love to have Charter Cable back
How do I get out of this contract??? My granddaughters can't get a cartoon channel to watch because I have not paid for that package. I do not cart for HBO. The package I have is P F V or sports... Music is another one I don't need. What I thought I was getting is totally different than what I expected. HELP... I would like to put together my own channels that we like that is not P F V sports or music. Will BE waiting on an answer. Sincerely Alice Bittle -205-674-3485. It is ok to talk to my daughter Liz Taylor. If I have to keep something I don't want I want a cheaper package and two rooms took out to save money. I would love to have Charter Cable back.

Did not stick to the agreement
Our service in Nov. 06. Prior to the installers leaving my home I called to confirm the monthly payments. The monthly payment was to remain the same for 1yr. It was to increase the second year by $10.00. Because the first bill was wrong, I called the 800 number. The bill has been wrong every month, we have called every month. Each agent, has apologized and swore that we would not have this problem again. Of course we have. My husband has also written them a letter. Now, we are told that Direct tv has never said that and that the previous agents were wrong. We have consistently paid the agreed upon amount. My package has not changed from the day of installation. Today, we were told that if we choose to cancel then we would have to pay a cancellation fee. Why? They broke agreement.

False advertisement, wrong billing, poor customer service
I had a similar experience with the Dish Network. The salesman for Dish told me we had 60 days to cancel with no fees, after we mailed the equipment back we got a bill for $400. Several years later and supposedly a little wiser we hesitantly decided to try Direct Tv. This time i made sure to ask all the right questions about billing and cancellation. I was promised a 30 day trial period no strings attached, the salesman even told me they knock off another $10 from the bill if you pass a credit check.

Direct tv was installed on a friday in march-07. We signed up for the plus package- 185 channels/hbo & cinemax free for 3 months for $44.99, no dvr included. The following monday we received a bill from them for $59.99. I called to question and correct the amount. I had to speak with several people getting different answers and reasons about the bill amount. When i mentioned cancelling the service i was told i would be fined because i exceeded their 7 day cancel policy its not 30, then i was "accidentally" disconnected.

When i called back after jumping through several hoops, the next person tells me its not 7 days, you only have 3 days to cancel from activation, then i was "accidentally" disconnected again.

Several weeks later we get a second bill for $59. Now we owe them for 2 months and we've only had service for a little over 5 weeks. Several days later they shut off our service.

During this experience with direct tv i've learned several facts:

1- customer service is lousy, they are either all stupid or they are all lying about everything.

2- direct tv will terminate your service within a 40 day period or sooner if a single bill is not paid, even a new customer.

3- in order to get the advertised package prices, you need to mail in a rebate form that takes 6-8 weeks and no interuption of service to qualify. This redemption can be ended at the discretion of direct tv at any time which can send your bill back up.

4- the installer doesnt have you sign anything. Your first bill is considered your contract with the terms of agreement and is also your redemption form to get the rebate for a lower bill.

5- direct tv's billing is pro-rated, this fancy word means your actually paying ahead for the service before you use it instead of after.

6-after your service is shut off, they will obviously call and try to collect the money, but they will also try to get you to cancel so they can add another $300 to your bill.

My best advice to anyone thinking about ordering directv is not to do it. They smack of false advertising and hidden details and poor customer service. If you already have directtv, do not cancel the service because they will bill you $300 or more on top of the monthly bill you owe. Your actually better off just not paying the bill... this way if they shut your service off, and you dont cancel, they cant even ask for the box back.

If your service is shut off, make sure you unplug the box right away because they can actually keep billing you month to month. This is because they dont actually kill the signal to the box, you still get a couple channels, but the only thing you can really watch are pay per view and the 24 hour ad channels.
