HD DVR
I am not happy at all with Direct TV, My son moved out of my home, into his first home. I was helping so I called Direct TV and Charter to see who had the best deal, I told them that my son has already purchased 2 HD DVR while living with me, they looked at me account and told me that he could take the DVRs with him to his new home, All we had to do was Purchase's 2 New Cards @ $20.00 each to take them out of my service to his, So after he got moved and Direct TV Install I called for him to buy the new cards for the HD DVRs, He got the HD DVRs on a special they were having for $99.00 when I got them they told me they were reg, $199.00
So what a deal Right. WRONG when I called to get the new cards they told me that the DVRs were leased we did not buy them that if we had purchased them they were $499.00, Know one never told me that was a lease, I was unstanding that I got a special deal and was buying the DVRs for $99.00 Reg $199.00 So people if you got a DVR and didn't not pay $499.00 for them the DVR is not yours, you are only leasing them plus paying $4.99 a Month each on your bill for the Service, SO this is what I see is I paid $99.00 for each HD DVR plus $4.99 each a month to used them for 3 years so far that $359.28 plus that is a total of $557.28 Now I am told my Son will have to lease 2 new ones at $199.00 each Down then the monthly fee, In the 3 years I have been a Direct TV Customer I was never told that the HD DVRs were just a lease, Now I did call and talk with someone on the phone and after talking with 3 people Finally a really nice guys was trying to help me out did agree to send me one DVR but not a HD DVR out for free but get this I got to buy the other one for $99.00 and pay some fee of $69.00 but they will take off the $69.00 on my bill. Ok so now I have to turn in the 2 HD DVRs that we have had that I have already invested $557.28 so I have lost money on this deal and now I wish I would have told my son to go with Charter they really have a better deal. if any one knows a Atty, they has a case with Direct TV I would really like to get in with it, I think it is time that big companys stop screwing with people and a law suit is the only way so maybe they will open ther eyes, My e-mail is [email protected], So I look at it this way The girl knew I was shopping for the best deal for my son and she just lied to get the sale, I try to see if I could Cancel now so I could go with Charter and was told I only had 24 hours after install to do that so now my son is under a 2 year agreement with them and I am very upset, I will NEVER IN MY LIFE REFER ANY ONE TO DIRECT TV Thanks for your time. Unethical Billing
When I moved, I signed up with Verizon to for a 3 package deal, which included satellite through Direct TV. After a year or so of spotty service due to poor reception, I called Verizon to end my contract and go to a internet/cable deal. We made a 3 way call to Direct TV to tell them I was unhappy with my service and was going to end my business with them. After hours of phone calls to switch my service, I received a bill a few months later for hundreds of dollars of Direct TV fees. I called Verizon, who I was also paying for cable now, and they made a 3 way call to Direct TV to inquire about the charges. A very rude and apathetic employee argued with me that I was still signed up and had never officially ended my service, despite my telling the operator for Direct TV (with a Verizon operator listening in on the conversation) that I wanted to end my business. I demanded to speak to the manager of Direct TV, who was even ruder and less accommodating. The Verizon representative intercepted and also argued with the manager that what they were doing was unethical, and yet the manager would not relent. After at least an hour of angrily arguing with this person, we finally ended the conversation. For months now I have been trying to pay off this massive illegitimate bill and now have collection agencies calling me, which is definitely ruining my credit. I have no idea how to argue against this cooperate bully and am also frustrated that Verizon could do nothing to fix the situation, even though they included Direct TV in their 3 package plan. There seems to be no victory for me, the poor, lowly consumer against a bully corporation. I would not recommend Direct TV to anyone who demands quality consumer service and ethical practices. If anyone knows of a lawsuit against Direct TV for unethical billing like my situation, I would appreciate any information. This type of uncontrolled corporate thievery is completely unacceptable.

racial discrimination
A Direct TV commercial showing a black wealthy boxer, black entourage, black family, and white butler demonstrates racial tension and degredation toward the white butler from the young black child. The child turns and punches the elderly white man in the stomach with a tone of celebration. The commercial is inflammatory and offensive for that reason alone. I will never consider subscribing to Direct TV until that form of commercial is removed.

Billing for Services not ordered or received
Cancelled service June 2, 2011 - was told that a refund was due as I just paid my bill. Refund would be processed once the cards from the satellite receivers were returned to Direct TV. On June 28th a statement from Direct TV indicated a credit balance of approx. $ 74.00 and there were no additional charges shown for movies or other items ordered, as indeed non had. On July 3, 2011 I received an email indicating that my Direct TV account was past due and that I owed approx. $ 258.00. I called and talked to three different reps and learned that these charges were for adult movies supposedly ordered on May 16, 2011 through the satellite receiver in my living room. I explained to the supervisor (badge # 62) that it was not possible for this to happens as no phone lines are connected to any of our receivers and that we only order via the Internet. I was told this did not make any difference and that the charge was valid. I asked to speak to the supervisors supervisor and was told to file a written complaint with the President of Direct TV in Colorado.
If these folks would have taken the time to review our ordering profile for movies and or other services they would have seen that we only order over the Internet - we never order adult/porn items - we typically order 2-4 movies in a month and they are primarily on weekends. Their assertions about us ordering a bunch of adult films doesn't match up to us - I think they have got our account confused with someone else.
The other interesting thing is that the statement on 6-28-2011 did not show these charges - Direct TV NEVER takes nearly 6 weeks to sort out extra charges for movies and get them on our account? Something is wrong here and it not me!!

General business practices
This is my first ever public online complaint. Direct TV is the worst company in the US to do business with. I actualy expect a future class action suit to be filed by customers against this company as I am sure that they are violating contract laws. First off you pay for all equipment up front. A standard receiver box costs $100 dollars & they say that you will receive a $5 dollar refund per month which you will never receive. Secondly I was offered free movie channels for three months which I w5as billed at $45 dollars a month. When I called I was credit for one month only. Secondly I was quoted a price of $35 dollars a month and was billed $80 dollars a month. When I called I was informed that I needed to fill out a online rebate form which apparently they forgot to tell me about when I ordered or was installed. I am still waiting to see this rebate. These people are crooks. When you call they are rude. You will be treated like you are asking for a government run welfare program and that they are giving you free monthly tv service. I told them as much that they needed to treat me like a customer and that I was paying alot of money for a luxury service. For three months of tv service I have paid $500 dollars plus the movies that I odered which I have not stated. The commercials that you see on tv stating free upgrades to HD DVR service do not exist. A HD DVR costs $299 dollars plus a fee of $50 dollars to upgrade plus $19.99 shipping plus a $10 dollar a month charge for HD service. I currently do not owe this company any money. I hate them & I am actualy goin to seek advice to terminate the contract.

Constant unexplainable outages
I continuously have issues with Direct tv service. It goes out for 5 to 6 hours at a time for no reason. Sometimes even days. Too many 771 signals which means problems with satellite. I have had this problem for months on end and it hasn't seemed to change. I pay direct tv but I have to talk to a seperate company (Multiband) about my issues. I live in an apartment so I feel like I don't get outstanding service. This company cannot handle wheather issues either. I chose this company by default because dish I didn't know much about and comcast was not available in my area. It goes out so much and comes back in on its own that sometimes you feel relieved and it forces you to cancel service calls, only to become a tease and go out yet again. The service techs know little to nothing. They use tape on the dish to fix major issues. Can you say lazy? If you are looking for okay customer service, poor service and good con- artist choose Direct Tv. If you are looking for descent customer service, excellent (tv) service choose Comcast. My opinion only.

poor service
I ordered Direct Tv on June 14th 2011. They came to install in a timely manner, June 16, with one issue, one box shorted out on install. The installer said it was a bad electrical outlet. I had an electrician come out and he checked everything and found nothing. I went to hook up the box on Hune 23rd and got shocked by blast and sparks flew.
It did something tothe system and had not TV in the house. I then called them to see when they could get out to fix the HOT electrical coax cable, there response was in 8 days. I was left with a HOT wire in my sons bedroom and was expected to wait for 8 days for someone to show up.
When I called and they said they couldn't be there for over a week she said it was impossible for the equipment to do such a thing. I told her if they couldn't be there for 8 days they could just come and pick-up there equipment and I am not paying a dime for there horrible service, she said she understood.
I called to cancell the service, they are now wanting to charge me $460 for a early termination fee...WOW. I have there service, that potentially could have burnt my huse down, they wont come and fix it in a timely manner, and they want to charge me. WHAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

Faulty Cable
We changed from Dish to Direct TV November 30, 2010 because we had a package deal with AT&T and their personnel kept telling us we could get a big discount if we change to Direct TV which was a joke. When Direct installed their equipment one of the cables was bad and we started having audio problems. Everytime we called and reported our problems they would say it must be out TV. Well after seven months they finally sent a technician that knew what he was doing and he found the bad cable that was causing our problems. So far it seems to be working ok. I think Direct should make restitution for these seven months we have had this problem or let us out of this lease so we can go back to Dish.

Deceptive Businnes Practice
When you sign up for a 1 year promotion, according to them, you are committing to a 2 year service agreement that does not require that you are explicitly informed that you are doing so and does not require your signature. This is at best deceptive, at worst fraudulent.

Horrible Customer Service
In April of 2010 we signed up for Direct TV Extra package with a DVR system. Fast forward to June 2011. Due to no fault of my own (due to a septic problem the home I had been living in was about to be condemned) I found myself having to move. The only place I could find did NOT want any satellites placed on the property or any holes drilled through any exterior walls. So because I can no longer use Direct TV service they are charging me $180 early termination fee.
That is not even the fun part. The day after we cancelled the service I get 3 phone calls (they are not to call my phone only my husbands). Call 1- 9:45AM the idiot representative ask me why we cancelled our service. I proceeded to tell him and he stated and I quote... "Your landlord can not legally tell you that you can not put a satellite dish on the house you are renting. That is against FCC regulations." Being that I am a property owner and have been renting out my house in Iowa for the last 4 years I called him out on his shear stupidity. HE HUNG UP! Call 2- 12:50pm- I didn't answer. Call 3- 3:41pm The gentleman was nice and listened to my reasoning told me how sorry he was to hear of our situation and thanked me for using their service.
Later that night after my husband and myself talked about the phone calls he called Direct TV to complain about my first call. Customer service rep-1 didn't want to get a supervisor or manager for my husband to talk to then said she would, put him on hold. From there he was routed back to the call menu where he was directed to Rep-2 Who continuously was telling my husband to call down and stop using bad language... he never raised his voice or swore once during their conversation. She finally agreed to find a supervisor but he was to busy to deal with the call.
In close I highly recommend that NO ONE SHOULD EVER USE DIRECT TV!
