Bill
My husband was deployed so I put the account on hold so that they wouldn't charge us when it wasn't being used. Six months later I paid the bill twice and then put it back on hold because thats what they told me that I had to do. They never put it on hold and six months after that they were taking money out of my account for it. When I called they told me that it was never put on hold and I said fine but I was sending the stuff back and that they weren't to take anymore money of of my account and sent them the mailing info not even two days after I sent the stuff they took out the money for the stuff. So I called them and they said it would take 5 days to return the money after they got the stuff. I called back 2 weeks later and they told me that I had to wait until the statement went out and then after 5 business days they would put it into my account. I called back today and they told me that now it was going to take 6-8 weeks to return the money. So not only have I paid for a service I didn't use but they are keep my money as long as they can.

Cancellation
I signed up for Direct tv starting December 2010. I spoke with the sales representitive expressing that I was interested in a bundle deal (cable & Internet) and wanted to know if they had such a thing. The sales agent went on to describe that AT&T could be bundled with Direct tv and would allow for a better savings by doing so. The sales agent ran a search to check if AT&T Internet was available in my specific area. The sales agent said yes I do show that AT&T Internet is available in your area and as soon as I was through completing my Direct tv cable that I would be sent directly to AT&T to set up my Internet. I agreed to the terms of the contract, bundled Internet and cable and was a happy camper. So I thought! After I had already established a installation date for my cable through Direct tv and AT&T for my Internet I received a call from Direct tv saying there was an issue with my account. It seems that AT&T is not available in my area even though it was clearly stated that it was! The only reason that I agreed to the contract was for AT&T Internet and Direct tv as a bundle. I called several times to express that I felt that the contract had been breached because the AT&T service that was stated to be available was not and I restated that was the underlining reason for my purchase to bundle save and be satisfied. After three days of calling and speaking to supervisors there was not one person that could understand that I wanted to cancel due to being provided with incorrect information from the Direct tv sales agent. The supervisor stated that Direct tv up held their part of the agreement and was a seperate entity that Direct tv. You think! So point being I can not cancel without the cancellation fee being applied. WTF I said the Direct tv sales agent stated it was available AT&T said it was available and when I came to the installation date I received a call saying nope not available. So here I am SOL not even a week with Direct tv and being screwed over. I have no Internet and will not receive the discount for bundling the two services. I can write my complaint to the billing disputes in Colorado and see if the cancellation fee can be waved. Do not go through Direct tv pay the additional $20 a months for anything better or anything at all in your area.

Disconnection Fees
In September of 2008 I called Direct TV for service. They told me on the phone that there was no two-year contract. They said all I had to do was to sign for the equipment that was brought to my house. After a little over a year, I wanted to discontinue thier service because they kept adding fees and more and more money to my bill. I had to call them every month to fix my bill. After a year, they up my bill $40 dollars on top of what I was already paying and said that my contract was only good for a year. They charged me over $200 for discontinueing the service and they took it out of my bank account without my permission. I want my money back and all the fees that they charged me over a year.

DISASTER
WE HAD DIRECT TV FOR A YEAR AND LAST WEEK WE SUDDENLY LOST THE SIGNAL. CALLED DIRECT TV AND THEY SENT A TECHNICIAN FROM MOBILE PRO ON FRIDAY TO CHECK THE SIGNAL AND BRING A NEW HD BOX. THE TECHNICIAN SPENT HOURS IN THE HOUSE AND ON THE ROOF WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO CONNECT ANYTHING AND DRILLED OUR WINDOWS WITHOUT OUR CONSENT. THE IDIOT DID NOT EVEN SEE THE EXISTING FIBEROPTIC LINES AND OUTLETS ON THE WALL THAT WAS ALREADY CONNECTED TO THE OTHER DIRECT TV BOX. ON TOP OF THAT HE LEFT THE ROOF LATCH OPEN AND WITH THE WITH THE RAIN ON SATURDAY THE HALLWAYS FLOODED! WE CALLED THEM THE SAME AFTERNOON AND THE SUPERVISOR PROMISED TO COME IN THE NEXT DAY AND FIX EVERYTHING AND KEPT US IN THE HOUSE ALL DAY AND NEVER SHOWED UP. WHEN WE CALLED DIRECT TV ON MONDAY THEIR COMPUTERS SHOWED THAT THE SYSTEM WAS WORKING AND CASE CLOSED!
NEVER USE DIRECT TV OR ANY OF THEIR TECHNICIANS. COMPLETE RIP-OFF AND UNPROFESSIONALS.

Misleading Contract
Direct Tv contacted me over my cell phone because I called them for a quote. When I got the call they had offered me the channels Dish Network has offered including my FSC (Foc Soccer Channel). Also, the reason I said OK because they offered also to install all of my other rooms at no charge including receivers. When the day of install came, obviously my house took a little more time to hook up the cables. From the minumim of three hours it took him 6hours and I dont blame him. He rushed out my house forgetting his wires, jacket and also mentioned the cable satilite is still uploading some channels. A couple of days later I had time to get to know my channels and found out FSC is not part of my package deal. They call it the Sports channel and it's an extra $10.00 a month. I spoke to three people on the phone till I got to speak to the Supervisor "JIMMY" ans said we are very sorry for the misunderstanding on my part. I said it's your CS who mislead me to buy this package so you own me my channel. The supervisor offered 6 months at half the price and I declined because they put me on a 2 year contract and it would cost me a little over $400.00 to cancel. In one week I'm already DISAPPOINTED with Direct TV. Shame on you Direct TV. You asked for my buisness and I gave it to you so honor your mistake.

Fraud
Direct TV told me if I moved to a place where I was unable to use there service that I would be let out of my contract. I have just reviewed the FCC rules and I have no Common areas at my new address. It is in the middle of downtown, no patios or anyplace to put a dish! Thursday night they fraudulently accessed my bank account for an amount over $300 dollars of which $200 was an early termination fee. I have never given them access to my account but my bank says this is a legal transaction. I can't wait to see the paperwork I supposedly signed for that! I have filed a complaint with the FCC and am waiting to hear. I am also going to complain to AARP as I am a senior on a fixed income and $300 is a lot of money to me. Stay far, far away from this company.

Hidden Charges, Wrong Info, Excuses
DIrect TV entices you at low prices, then on the first bill, you get all the hidden charges. They tell you you can exchnage your digital to HD, was told that by the installer as well, 2 months after I get subscribe I get a HD tv now they want $99, for the box $49 install, $49 for being a new customer, finally got them to give me the box for free but they wanted 3 months of bill up front and they will credit me for 3 months, told me cant do it any other way. Well I gave the the 3 months, I got the credit for three months got a an appointment for the install, waited all day, no call no show, called C.S, told me no order was placed, and my credit card was not billed, I had to show proof, i went on line ans sure enough my card was billed. Now They say they could redo it but I need to pay 3 months up front again. I SPENT 2 DAYS AND ALMOST 4 HRS ON THE PHONE FIGHTING WITH THEM, I HATE DIRECT TV, I WANT THEM OUT OF MY HOUSE, AND I WILL NEVER REFER THIS WORLESS COMPANY TO ANYONE, THE UNDERCOVER BOSS NEEDS TO GO BACK AGAIN...

Automatic Withdrawl from Account
Please be aware that once you sign up for Direct TV and pay your bill through their website that they have your account information on file. Therefore, if at any time you decide to cancel your service they will automatically withdraw the amount from your account without any notice at all. They do not allow time for payment arrangements and once the money is taken from your account there is no possible way to get it back even if you do not agree with the charges. I suggest you choose a cable company that does not require a contract.
