practices
As a previous customer of Direct TV for more than four years I find appalling the practice of deducting money from our bank account when no one was authorized to do so. We had recently resubscribed to Direct TV and shortly afterward lost my job. We had to suspend our service while we waited for unemployment and to get caught up on our other bills. Now, two weeks before Christmas I find all of the money deducted from my bank account, $500.00. I am going to do everything in my power to get this practice given media attention. Yes, I do owe the company money, and yes I fully intend to pay it. But when faced with job loss and financial obligations cable television does not come before feeding my family.
Thanks Direct TV, for making that decision for me. Now if my kids get hungry they can at least watch pretty images of people eating Christmas dinner!

Refer a friend
DIRECT TV is the WORST company out there when it comes to customer service! Bar none!
So, my mother used my account number to sign up as a new customer and get the refer a friend promo. You've seen the commercials, right? Refer a friend get $100. Well, she was told she needed to make a deposit before anything was even approved. She did. Then when no one had contacted her for weeks she called them to see what was going on. They told her that my account was in collections and that her deposit was being applied to MY bill. They weren't even going to tell her!
First of all, my account was never even disconnected. I may have been a few days late on payment as I am often busy and forget to pay this particular bill. But I always do pay it in the end and have NEVER seen any sort of collections notice or anything like that and at this time I still had uninterrupted service.
Secondly, since when is your mother liable for your bills? Spouse? Okay... but a parent? What the heck??? I am in my thirties and own my own home why would she be responsible for my bill?
Thirdly, what about confidentiality? As a service provider aren't they being held accountable for violating people's rights? Just curious. Guess when you give a friend your account number they get all your personal info over the phone via customer service rep?
They refused to give her deposit back. So my pissed off and panicked mother called me and scolded me. So I paid it right away. Then they finally (after much hassling) gave her the deposit back. How embarrassing and horrible! All this just to get $100 applied to your bill over a ten month period! $10 a month off your bill? What a waste of time! I hate them so much! You should have seen the e-mail I got when I complained!!! AHHHHH!!!
When I first signed up with them years and years ago they were supposed to give me a rebate. It took no less than two years, numerous letters threatening legal action and a few visits to the better business bureau before I finally got it. I searched online and thousands of other people NEVER got it at all. DO NOT give these scam artists your business! They have no respect for their customer's satisfaction or for their privacy.

Deplorable service
I spent THREE AND A HALF HOURS THIS MORNING ON THE PHONE WITH DIRECT TV AND THE RECEIVER PROBLEM I CALLED ABOUT IS STILL NOT RESOLVED! I am on my THIRD receiver in the course of one year the current one received 9/2/10. It spontaneously deletes recorded shows, it does not record scheduled shows, it literally goes biserk and switches from station to station on its own, and last night it shut down. My call was to get a new receiver and considering the problems I've experienced and their new promotions, I asked what they could do for me. If the answer was nothing, I told them would being canceling my service. I talked to Jennifer, Fred (who sold me a big fat lie), Courtney, Ms. Piabla (Courtney's supposed supervisor NOT and that the deal Fred gave me she refused to), Priscilla (who told me Piabla was NOT a supervisor, and that she had to VERIFY the information I told her (in essence I was lying) and finally she told me I would have to wait for Case Management to call me to resolve the receiver issue. Rich called and told me to wipe the memory -- software issue NOT. These receivers are refurished pieces of crap! That's that. THIS COMPANY IS HORRIBLE, DISRESPECTFUL AND LIES -- EVERYTIME TIME I SPOKE WITH SOMEONE I GOT A DIFFERENT STORY. BYE BYE DIRECT TV!

Took money from my account for someone elses bill
This company will use any debit or credit card they have on file if it is yours or anybody elses. This company is as crooked as they come. I have never nor will I EVER get anything from this company. I used my debit card for my son in law to get his service hooked up they took money out of my account for his bill, called and told them they couldnt do that any more and they stopped and sent him the bills in the mail. Then when he had the service turned off 5 months later they decicided to take what he owed them out of my bank...5 MONTHS later without my permission. All I can say is this company is crooked and they rob peoples bank accounts and get away with it. Im sorry but I cant afford for them to rob my account with 706 dollars. Shame on these people. But I believe what comes around goes around, after they rob enough people they wont have many customers left to rob.

Misrepresentation
The contract was changed. They lied about costs, installation, and service. Customer service was a joke. It wasted hours of time to get out of a Sam's Club - Direct TV promotion. It is my hope that Sam's Club was a victim as well and not part of this mess.

Billing, fraud, damage to roof, and customer service
I intially was going to set up service through the Dish Network but was lied to by several phone salesman. I was taking my time to get the right price so I contacted Direct TV. The saleswoman told me that with all discounts and taxes my total bill would be 34.99. I signed up for the $5.99 insurance in case a technician needed to come out to fix the equipment. The gentleman who came out to set up the service told me that this would be best otherwise we would be charged a fee for them to come out and fix anything. Therefore my total bill would be $40.98. We also had 2 friends and family discounts which would deduct $10 a peice off our bill, making our grand total 20.98. We have yet to receive an accurate bill. Every month we have to call in and argue with a customer service representative to no avail. We submitted the second friends/family discount request several months ago. We have asked about it every month since it was never deducted and have been told it will take up to 90 days. Today we were told they never received the account # for us to receive the discount which is absolutely not true. Today my husband and I both spoke with a manager who acknowledged that we may have been lied to about the initial price quote but would do nothing about it. Come to figure out that the initial saleswoman told me she would give us the 2nd receiver for free but didn't bother to mention that there is a $5.99 charge for service to the reciever. The manager that we spoke with today was acknowledged that but did nothing to resolve the situation. I asked the manager to review the initial call to hear what the representative told me. She refused to do so. She said they were not able to access those calls. I asked why the calls are recorded if they can't access them. She said they can only access those calls for training and quality assurance purposes. I pointed out that this was a quality issue. She still refused to assist. To make all of these matters worse, the gentleman who installed the satellite did so on our roof. He didn't do it correctly so now we have a leak in our roof through our garage. Now we have to go through an arbitration process for that.
I am so displeased with our Direct TV service. This is a racket. There should be some legal repurcussions to this kind of practice. It's sickening.

Fradulant Business Practices
Signed up for Direct TV was not told on install that I was being bound to a two year contract that would require a very hefty cancellation fee. Was not told that any future request to add cable boxes would cost me large fee's and an upgrade in my cable package. Called to canel 3 times. All three times I had to argue for 45 minutes with "reps" and twice they didn't cancel service as requested. Second rep documented I hung up before completeing cancellation process. Total lie, he said cancellation was scheduled. He never gave me nfo on returning equipment so I called back 2 days later to find out that he never scheduled the cancellation. Third call and start all over again with the lets see what ind of deal we can give you. Asked for supervisor was left on hold forever. They will not waive the $300 cancellation fee I was never informed about uopn purchase of Direct TV. They encourage and participate in fraudulant business practice, bait and swithc. FCC needs to get involved with this "business."

Customer Service MANIPULATE???? If not where can I get a simple answer??
My DVR spontaneously stops working. I inquire about a replacement...The only money obligation offered up front, is that they wanted to notify me that I would be expected to pay a $20 shipping fee. I am also told to send in my broken one. I had bought the DVR at BestBuy, I repeated this several times..wondering why my replacement would only require $20? WELL, upon speaking to another agent.. I ASK SPECIFICALLY WHAT WILL IT COST...I am told that they do not GENERALLY require someone to pay for a replacement???? GENERALLY I repeat...SPECIFICALLY I AM NOT PAYING ANYTHING? No, generally not. Also knowing I got it at best buy, she went on to say that the reasons that they would not charge you are that DVRs don't frequently just stop working...Agent 3... Now someone speaks up -once again not clearly nor concisely- that it will cost. What are the objectives of these customer service representatives? Why could I not get an answer 2 out of the 3 times I called?

unsatified with service
I'm really sick of Directv. Clear view of the southern sky is driving me nuts. My tv shuts down if it's cloudy, raining, snowing or sunny. Half the time I'm not allowed to sign in to game lounge because of code GL(6), but when I call I'm told that the volume is high and the wait is long. When I unplug to reboot, it doesn't help AND it take thousands of tokens away. When I do get a hold of someone, they have me re-boot again and it still doesn't work AND again takes thousands of tokens are taken away. I think the wait is so long to speak to a representative because everybodys having problems. My husband wants us to switch to ATT U-VERSE, and I'm begining to agree. I've been with D-TV for a long time, but with snowy weather coming I'm not wanting to be without tv while everyone else I talk to at the time are comfy watching their favorite show. I'm very frustated and I doubt if this e-mail will will be answered, but I have to get my frustrations out, and D TV, soon you will be replaced.

What a horrible company.
i paid over 500 bucks to have their equipment installed...
I had to get a package with them in order to get internet service with EmbarQ.
The internet did not work and was horrible..It went out 183 times in 3 months.
I canceled both services.
Direct tv..said it was going to charge me 400 for canceling.
I told them...they were at fault..It did not matter.
I asked to have them pick up their boxes..I never heard from them.
A month later..they stole 903.00 out of one of my bank accounts..and 305.00 out of another...
and..they insist..I still owe them money.
I have been calling them..they will not give me an address to drive their stuff back.
The customer service is non existent...
Whenever i call..they tell me that the supervisors will call me back...and..that they cannot access my records...
they never..call back
