Cancellation Fee
I received a call from a direct TV sales rep, asking me to return to Direct TV, and she could save me money from the plan that I had. She offered me a bundled plan quoting me an amount of $97.97 not including taxes.
I accepted the offer. Once the service was connected I found out that I did not have a bundled service from your company. Only cable service. I would still be billed by Verizon for my internet and telephone, and no-one at Direct TV could quote these charges to me. I called the Direct TV office to get a quote and was told I had to call Verizon to get the phone and internet quote. I asked Amy the rep. that I was speaking with if I had 30 days to cancel and she confirmed yes. At this point I had only had the service for one week. I called Verizon and got a quote on what they would be billing me for their portion . The total came up to more then what I was paying
before to Verizon for the bundle. I immediately signed again with Verizon for the bundle. My experience with
direct TV was misleading and a lie. I found the representatives did not know what they were doing and really screwed me up. They went as far as ordering me a new telephone line in my home and no-one ever informed
me of this, nor ask me if I needed a new line. I found all of this once I was talking with the Verizon representative. Now I'm dealing with trying to get this line disconnected and not be billed for two lines.
I've been in my home for over 20 years with the same phone number, I just do not know what direct TV was doing, but I have to suffer all of this inconvenience. I do not feel that I should be charged the $454.10 that Direct TV is trying to collect from me. I do need some assistance on this.

Poor Customer Service and Equipment
Direct TV installed a defective receiver at my mother's house. We have called THREE times to request repair. Each time, they don't show, or even acknowledge they were suppose to show. Each time I call, they claim they have no record of our calling. Now, on the THIRD call, they claim they won't come to the home to fix it (as already diagnosed by AT&T), but instead require we go through some process of resetting it (of course we thought of that first, idiots), before they will come out. Please, do not ever use this company; they are completely worthless.

Fraud
This is a last ditch effort to get some kind of customer service. I am so disappointed and disallusioned with Direct TV, and I don't know what else to do. I have been being jerked around by Direct from the moment I switched.
To begin with I was a customer of DISH, and I was some what happy with them, but I had inquired about about Direct after seeing a flyer that advertised better service and lower rates. I called and talked with a representative and asked 2 questions that made my decision to switch to Direct. I asked if I could bundle my services like I was doing with DISH, and I told them I was already a customer of Windstream, they said "No problem, we bundle with Windstream." The next question was could I continue to have internet service, but do away with my landline phone. They said, "Absolutely, that is not a problem." I was very surprised to hear this because DISH, (honestly) told me it could not be done with their service. Well, thinking I could do away with a bill, this sounded good to me, so I decided based upon the answers that I received from Direct TV employees that I would switch. I did not know these people were lying to me.
Windstream does not bundle with Direct, and I can not do away with my landline phone. I was lied to twice and now after having argued with many Direct reps., no one is willing to help me. I don't know what qualifications are needed to work for Direct, but I'm thinking they are not very high. The only answers I get from these people are, "I'm sorry", "I understand your frustration", "I don't understand", "But, we do bundle with Windstream", this is the type answers I'm getting.
To put the icing on the cake, I never gave my permission for autopay, but the first month of billing, the money was taken out of my account. Upon calling I find out that Direct took it upon themselves to take my money, without my permission. I told the lady I spoke with that I don't do business that way, that Direct is to bill me and I will send a check, that this is to never happen again. This month I received the bill sent the check, and on the same day that Direct cashed the check, they also deducted the same amount again out of my account. Now, I will probably bounce a check, (thank you very much), which will cost another $35.00 that I don't have.
I wanted out of this contract from the first month, when I realized I had been HAD. I signed based on lies that I had been told. I have talked with numerous people in your organization and have been treated rudely, and basically told that this is not their problem. They are so sorry that there was miscommuinication but tough lady, your stuck.
Please help me, I am so frustrated and aggravated with this company. I want out of this contract, I am very dissatisfied, and I don't feel that the contract is valid when it was based on lies.
Thank You for any help I can get,
Pam Hester

Cheating and Fraud
Everything is Cheating! Refund is a scam and fraud, will not effect for at least the first month after installation.
10/27 and 28, Direct TV told me the total monthly fee is $39.99. I was not told of anything that this would not effect without registering rebate online. I was told there wouldnt be a contract nor commitment.
10/31 installed the direct tv
11/10 I received the first month bill of $79.48 (only 10days from the installation date). I noticed that i had to apply for the rebate for better price . The money after rebate turned out to be $45.48 ( $5 more than they told before).
It is very hard and i am lucky to find from the bill there is automatically a 24months contract with the bill. Early cancel will be charged a fee of $480.
I called and wanted to cancel the service, thinking of it is only 10 days service. I was told that 15 days cancel without charge. I told them ok, i was within it. The customer service checked my place, and changed and told me in California the no charge canceling is within 24 hours after installation.
What a liar! Everything from Direct TV is just cheating, fraud.
I want to sue direct tv to the court. Anybody can help?

Service
Been with DTV since 2003. Had TiVo system, worked great loved it. It went bad and they refused to fix it but offered to replace it with a "superrior" model. Now the problems begin, contacted tech support about the problems with the recordings, times it starts and stops, loud squelching in middle of movies (sometimes PPV), not recording what we set it up to record, recording what we never want recorded... well you get the picture. Contacted "Tech Support" again and they just gave me the run around. Sent email through their system about these issues and they responded with fluff. and told me they would not forward my emails to a supervisor or manager. Someone did try to call me but unfortunately I was working and unable to answer. They sent me an email explaining how sympathetic they were to me and how valuable I was to them as a customer. With all this, they spelled my name wrong. I am not worth double checking my last name. They did also provide me with a number (an 800 number) to call. It was to upgrade or general information number, useless to me.
Now they can not even get the programming right on the guide. Set up to watch Undercover Boss but Amazing Race was on instead. Been like that for past 4 weeks. Programming guide and commercials say when its on but it's been the Amazing race. If anyone knows how to get through to someone who is actually willing to do something please let me know!

Quality of Product
I've been soo lucky to have made the mistake of changing from Dish to Direct TV.
Tis Sunday morning and I've waited 35 minutes to talke to someone about my DVR crashing again.
Finely a guy answers and he has to read the book on how to fix my problem. As always, when they don't know, push the red button on both the main DVR and the bedroom or unplug it from the wall.
After 3 months I hate this damn system and thier service wait times but it will cost me about $300 to change, please don't make the same mistake I did.

Unauthorized Withdrawal, Took 4 Months To Get Refund
I want to start out by saying I did not have an issue with reception, service or equipment. I really enjoyed my DTV experience until I terminated my service. They withdrew $186.99 from my account without any notification. Whether I owed this money or not I should have received some form of notification. By the way I didn't owe them an extra dime. Like most people I live paycheck to paycheck and this really messed with my finances and cost me more than just the 186.99 the removed.
1. I had to call 3 times to get them to send me the return boxes for the equipment. They made it clear that I only had a certain number of days to return the equipment or I would be charged for the equipment. I received the boxes and returned the equipment the next day July, 14 2010. I kept all paperwork to include confirmation from USPS.
2. I did not receive any notice that they did not receive 1 of 2 boxes (funny how one of the 2 boxes arrived and was checked in as received but not the other one that was sent the same time). The first notice I received was August 7, 2010 saying they haven't received my payment of 186.99. WHAT PAYMENT, I FOLLOWED THEIR DIRECTIONS EXACTLY.
3. This part is a bit fuzzy because I didn't think I would need to track who and when I talked to or what was talked about. But I know I called and was told they would look into it and my account would be credited when the equipment was returned.
4. Warning bells started going off when I received a call from their collection department asking about the 186.99. I told them I had set all equipment back in the timeframe allotted but I was not at home to pull any of the information and asked to have them call me back. They said ok NO ONE EVER CALLED ME BACK. Don't say you will call if you don't.
5. I then received a letter dated 9/7/2010 stating my equipment has been found "Please allow 5-7 business days for the credit to apply to your account." By the end of September I still hadn't received my credit.
6. I called and spoke with a CSR, who was nice and helpful, but the only thing he could tell me was it would take 6-8 weeks to return my money. I got a specific date Nov 3 would be the end of 8 weeks and marked it on my calendar.
7. It is now Nov 4 and I still don't have my money. I called DTV and they claim a check was sent Oct 29 and I should get it anytime. ANYTIME, THEY HAVE HAD MY MONEY FOR 4 MONTHS. It took them seconds to take my money but 4 months to return it? How does this make since? They charge me interest and/or late fees when I don't pay them in a timely manner, I should receive interest and/or late fees when they don't receive pay me back in a timely manner.
8. When I called them I told them I wanted to submit an official complaint I was told I could send an email or write a letter, but that my phone call would not submit an official complaint. Kassidy #409984 was very helpful in providing me the address to send a letter and the link to email them and assured me I would get my money soon.
9. I went to the website to email them my complaint. When you get to their "contact us" area there is not really a selection for "Complaint". I had to select a crappy category that did not fit way I was emailing and then they limit you to 1000 characters. Why limit customers? I told them I will never use them again and I will shout it from the tallest mountain I can find or in this day and age from whatever blog, chat room, BBB I can find.
DO NOT USE DIRECT TV. They will screw you one way or another.

bait and switch
DO NOT ORDER THE DVR (for only $7) a month!!! They talk fast, and don't mention the fine print. If you order the $7 a month DVR, you can't cancel the service (minimum of 29.95 a month for 60 or less channels) unless you pay a "cancelation fee of $20 per month for the duration of your contract. Confused yet? We ordered the DVR in August. It is now November 3rd. I was just told by Desiree that it would cost us $420 to cancel our account!!!
Also, when I downgraded to the "Family Package" of 29.95 a month, I was told that I could see what channels I would get for $29.95. Not true, there are 3 different packages that you can't see online, but, as Desiree so patiently explained to me, it is not fraud because she was willing to read to me all of the channels that I could watch (she really was patient, and she waited for me to write down the names of all the channels, mistakes in spelling are mine) So since you can't get it anywhere else here is the list of what you're paying for with Direct TV's " Family Package" :
1. BYU TV (Mormon channel)
2. Bloomberg
3. Bloomberg (2)
4. C-span
5. C-span 2
(don’t get CC TV 9, but she gave me the name anyway)
6. Christian TV
7. Church Channel
8. Direct TV Customer Information Channel
9. DYI (Do It Yourself Home Improvement)
10. Day Star
11. Disney Channel East
12. Disney Channel West
13. Disney XD
14. EWTN (Another religious channel)
15. In Life (Christian)
16. Food
17. Free Speech TV (Channel 348)
(GEM Net (don’t get))
18. God TV
19. Golden Eagle
20. GMC
21. HITN (Spanish PBS)
22. Hallmark
23. Headline News (CNN)
24. Home and Garden
25. Home Shopping
26. Hope
27. Inspiration
28. Investigation
29. Jewish Life
30. LINK
(MHZ – don’t get)
31. NASA
32. NRB
33. Nat Geo
34. Nick Jr.
35. Nick @ Nite East
36. Nick @ Nite West
37. Nick Toons
38. Once (Spanish)
(PBS channel 379 – don’t get)
39. QVC 1
40. QVC 2
41. RFT TV
42. Science
43. Shop NBC
44. Music – Between
45. Music - Gospel Glory
46. Music – Standards
47. Music – Playground
48. Music – Spirit
49. TNT Net
50. The Hub (channel 294)
51. V-Mi (Spanish)
52. TWC (The Weather Channel)
53. Word Network
54. World Harvest
Doesn't look like 66 or even 60 channels to me.
More confusion, The "Basic Package" is the same price as the "Family Package" but if you are already a customer, you can't get the Basic Package, that is just an "introductory package" so the longer you are with Direct TV, the more screwed over you are.

NFL Package
I have been scammed by the NFL package like several other people. I did not order the package, did not nor do not view NFL. I had a credit balance on my bill, so I had not been scrutinizing it as carefully. This is how a customer of 10years is treated. I have called and been told there is nothing that can be done.

Service, deleting channels, programing deficient
Direct TV told me they were the top satelite provider. I asked specificly about specific channels and they said they had them. Today the dropped one of my favorite channels G4. DTV is not the best provide, Dish Network is! I had Dish Network for 5 years. I won't ever use Direct TV again. False advertising, misleading sales pitches.
