Bad customer service
I moved to a new address and had my service transferred. A friend stayed at my new place while the technician installed the service. The nitwit technician put black cable wires over every door frame in my place. My walls are pastel colored and the door frames are white. Why would any thinking person put black wire in ANY home? I called customer service and complained. I was told that I had two options: buy my own wire and have them install it which will cost $75 or cancel my service and pay a $300 termination fee. I told them they were crooks and deceitful. They just gave me that stupid little spiel that basically adds up to "that's not our problem-sorry you got screwed". They have offered no solution and are the problem in totality. I HATE Direct TV. That stupid mess does not even work if there are too many clouds int he sky or if a drop of rain falls. If you are looking for service, look elsewhere, Direct TV is a JOKE!

Terrible Service
My husband & I have had service with Direct TV for more than 10 yrs. We needed to have our old equipment updated to HD. Which ment that a tech. would have to come out replace dish on house & install new HD DVRs in three rooms. Made Apt. to do so & Contracted co. for Houston area never showed. Made many phone calles, were told that theywould be out at later time in day 2 diffrent times tech. was running behind. then finally were told they were out of equipment needed to up grade. Need to reschedule apt. Did so. Still No one showed for apt. were to come later in day still no show 2 times again. Finally after waiting most of day tech showed. Tech. came in(non english speaking) looked at dish on house & said I can't up grade. We do not install dishes on dewellings. can't change equip. gave me his phone with superviser on other end he told us the same thing plus a few choice words & had his techs leave. No work done. We had Direct TV install orginal dish & they changed it out one other time each time putting it on the roof where it was. Don't know what the major malfunction was this time. other than just didn't want to work. In our neighborhood Due to Deed restrictions that is where the dish has to be placed. Never was an issue before. Called & complained again to Direct TV with no results!! Have a list of many complaints on account with Direct TV they just don't seem to care!!! Will now switch to another Co.

no service false promotion
Direct tv is a company that has absolutely no business ethic. they billed me for a contract i did not sign, over the phone, i was told one year and they will not provide me with documentation that it was two years. they damaged my speakers, and disturbed items in my house and let it that way. when i call there number they state they do not know who came to my house and have no way to find out that information.

Deceiving Rates and Poor Customer Service
What a scam.. Just signed up for some special rate from Direct TV for $34.99.. My bill is no where near this rate.. Told no monthly charge for extra receivers and now Direct TV rep says " Oh no charge to the actual receiver but there is a $5 monthly charge per receiver to get the signal".. Guess what they can have the extra receivers back.. If you sign up with this company make sure you ask specific details about your service or you will be paying extra.. Now I am sorry I didn't use another cable company..

unethical billing practices
My husband and I disconnected service less than two months before our contract ended. A week later on June 26th, we received our final bill with a due date of July 15th. About ten days later, however, I received another bill which showed that the final amount was already paid on July 8th.
When I checked our bank account, it showed Direct TV had charged the final amount on the 8th (a week before their given due date), and in doing so, our bank account was overdrawn.
Needless to say, I was upset. A company should be equally obligated to honor their set due dates. Of course when I called to have the matter resolved, I received no help and was given the excuse that the customer agreement authorized them to charge the final amount five days from cancellation. The customer agreement says nothing about five days or about being authorized to charge the final amount whenver it fancies them regardless of and prior to their own due dates.
Do not use Direct TV. Their advertising about great customer service is one big, fat joke. They are unethical, to say the least, and a poor example of how to conduct business.

horrible customer service
I watch the local channels, AMC and TNT. That's it. I have been a customer of Direct TV since 1995. Like lots of people lately, I am having money troubles. Paying around $70 a month for TV is not an option any more. Expecially 9 channels. I called DTV last weekend to ask if they had a better pkg for me. "NO". I asked them if I could upgrade my old receiver to one that could record TV and payback on 2 TV's. They said the cost to upgrade is $99 or $199. I said thank you for your service, hung up and called Dish. Of course they were as sweet as could be. They had a potential new customer. I am getting all of my channels for 29.99 a month for one year and then it only goes up $10.00. It gets installed this weekend.
Today I called Direct TV back to cancel service. On the phone for 40 minutes trying to get a person. He wouldn't tell me my final bill, he wouldn't quote me anythng and told me all extra charges would come off my credit card I originally listed. My hope (and I don't remember)is that the card I used then is no longer valid.
What absolute jerks. I can't believe I gave them my time, money and loyalty. I will do my very best to make sure NO ONE I know uses Direct TV.

BILLING
I called Direct TV to cancell my account they told me they would pay my bill because I no longer had a contract with them I said ok but I will cancell when at the end of that. At the end they told me they would pay my bill again I agreed and then at the end called to cancell. This time they said we will pay your bill and give you a free HD DVR. I asked if this would put me under contract they told me no. I asked them three times if this would put me under contract they said it would not. So I said ok lets do it. I asked the intaller if this put me under contract with them and was told no it did not. I called to cancell and was told I am under a 2 year contract and it would be 440 dollars to cancell they charged my card and completly screwed me.

Misrepresentation by the salesman for Direct Star TV and Direct TV
On May 5, 2010 I called Direct TV to compare their Satellite package plan to the plans offered by Dish Satellite and Comcast. I was described a package by the representative that I agreed to, so I provided him my credit card information for a 24 month contract. There were rebates offered and these rebates would of course modify the usual price for the services by Direct TV. What I didn't know when calling Direct TV was I was being directed to an independent retailer, namely "Direct Star TV." Later, this became an excuse for Direct TV not to look further into the shady business dealings by Direct Star TV.
When I received my first bill I realized there was a disparity between what the salesman on the telephone offered, even with the rebates involved, so I called Direct TV on May 26, 2010, explaining my grievances. Though the 24 month agreement is with Direct TV, I was being informed Direct Star TV is the one who provided the misinformation and I should take the matter up with them. I did so on my next phone call and contacted the customer service for Direct Star TV. Try getting through to the customer service at Direct Star TV, the two numbers provided were 866 320-2546 and 866 443-4732. You may find as you make the phone call you would feel you've a better chance contacting an alien on another planet in the universe than their customer service. There are plenty of ways of redirecting you instead, some of which take you back to Direct TV, who referred me back to Direct Star TV in the first place.
I spoke to someone in customer service for Direct Star TV named "Lorraina" who said she would defer the entire matter to the research department for Direct Star TV. They would listen to listen to the entire conversation between their sales representative and myself on the day I agreed to the terms of the agreement. If the research dept confirmed I was misinformed there would be adjustment made accordingly.
I called back and learned in speaking to another sales representative their research dept confirmed I was misinformed. After this I received no adjustment to the charges in my agreement and it appeared there was no intention from Direct Star TV to do so by the various phone calls I made attempting to get through to Lorraina in customer service. I never spoke to Lorraina again, I couldn't get through to her nor did she ever call me back when I left messages for her to do so.
I looked carefully at the agreement and noted I had to submit a "claim in writing" to take my grievances anywhere at all. This was the first step in the arbitration process I will now have to go through to protect my rights as a consumer. I subitted my letter on June 4, 2010 to Customer Service for Direct TV located in Greenwood Village, CO. I am required to wait a sixty day period when Direct TV has the opportunity to resolve my issues in what is described as an informal level. I recieved a call from someone named "Greg" who indicated he was the Account Manager for Direct TV. He told me the email they send out after the initial agreement is made by telephone is the method of confirming what the agreement consists of, so this should have cleared up any confusion
I looked again at this emailing Greg spoke of. No where in the email does it clarify what the rebates consist of and what the consumer is responsible for once the rebates are included. Greg declared Direct TV would continue holding me responsible for a 24 month agreement and would offer no adjustments in return. I asked Greg if his response is considered the informal response to satisfy the Claim in Writing process and he indicated an affirmative.
During this interim period of sixty days, awaiting to satisfy the period Direct TV has to respond in an informal manner I've recieved a notice indicating they were going to add on a protection plan without my permission. I called and inquired where and how did I agree to this added protection plan and got no explanation. I also got an email asking if I was enjoying the three free months of Showtime and Starz premium channels. Of course, further down in that same email, in much smaller print, there is a notice these premium channels will continue for an additional $24 dollars a month unless I call to cancel. Apparently, the method to capture more profit for Direct TV is not to actually obtain your permission for something but require you to notify them you don't want it.
Is there any doubt in anyone's mind this satellite company puts the customer at the very end of their priority list? In my opinion, Direct TV's efforts to rectify an injustice is very poor and every dealing requires the customer to carefully look at an email from them, looking for the small print below that will serve as your notice.
In early August I will need to file a lawsuit and defer this entire matter to an arbitrator. It seems, unless I wish to be intimidated and bow to the decisions and dealings of their personnel, I have no other choice in the matter. That will be my next step in the process and it will be a step I intend to take.

Additional Fee Scams
I had been a loyal customer for Direct TV for four years. Yet the past year with them has been a nightmare. They wouldnt even replace a remote control. Therefore, I cancelled services. On 7/11/2010 I was sent yet another bill for their services in the amount of 341.00. The PPV charges were actually dated 07/29/2010 which happened to be after the date of the bill. When calling the company, we were told these could not be removed from our bill. Amazingly, we were also charged 220.00 for a non return fee. Of which we have a signed confirmation they in fact received the units.
I was told all complaints were to be directed to the President
