False Advertising
I signed up for Direct TV. Was told what a wonderful company they are and congraduations for signing up with them. Scheduled my free installation. Installer comes out and informs me that I will have to pay $60.00 for my "FREE" installation!!!

Trickery / Lured-in
I too was tricked... I called ATT for Internet Service who I learned bundles service with Direct TV. My focus is solely on Internet - I rarely watch TV. I am only at this place temporarily as well. And I do not like contracts or commitments so I would never knowingly entered any contract much less with TV which I rarely use. Direct TV is clever about the trick - it's a great [complex psychopath deviant] business plan... They bait you in with a bundled price. After some time the real price comes out (movie channels are no longer free) causing the victim to address it and adjust. So a reduction for the victim is remove some receivers and DVR and "stuff." The victim then finds out a reduced package within reason involves a purple dinosaur but no Blackhawks. So naturally the victim says, "Cancel it all." THEN you find you're in a 24 month commitment.
How would you like to find yourself temporarily in depositions in a hotel conditions under like Winston Churchill pressure - and find yourself tricked by of all companies, Direct TV? It's like roaming to Great America and after 15 minutes learning you can only ride the kiddy cars and you can't leave for 2 years.
Direct TV is special.

Ripping off nursing home
Can't get satisfaction for the poor service Direct TV is giving our nursing home, we have 5 year contract and are stuck with it, have lost 3 channels from our list, one which is USA network, it has just a floating Direct TV icon. I am about to get on Face book and spread the bad news if something isn't done soon, we are tired of getting ripped off! I had to leave my Dish Network at home, no comparison, Dish Network is by far the best choice. Sad you have to rip old people off like this.

Completely mislead me
In November of 2009 I was told that I could cancel at any time. Well my satellite just went out and they told me that I would have to pay $50 to move my dish. I told them that I didn't want Direct TV anymore because they didn't put my dish in the spot from the beginning and I didn't feel I needed to pay for that.
Then I was told that I signed a 2 year commitment. I am about to tell everyone not to use Direct TV because of the customer service and that I was mislead about the 2 year commitment.
From the very beginning, I was given all of these promises and now I am finding out that all of these statements and promises are complete lies. Everyone that I know will find out how horrible Direct TV employees are. I am madder than a hornet!!!

Billing / service
After being a customer for 5 years, I have finally reached the end of my patience. When I call or receive my bills, all I get is "loyal customer", or "valued customer" etc, the same sales crap.
Problem is, my billing keeps increasing. When I complain, I get "oh there was a rate increase" or " oh your discount expired", well I for one am sick of this crap.
I cannot use the on demand feature, despite trying two different routers, oh yes, you need a router to use this. Why was I not told before installation?
Oh with the HD receivers, you don't own them, you lease them...with only a 90 day warranty... If one goes bad, you pay a huge fee for a new one. In my case, I decided to pay for the insurance at 5.99 per month. New customers get all the discounts, old loyal, and valued ones get screwed.
Good thing I did because one receiver just died...and make sure you ship the old one back asap, because if it's not to them within 7 days, you still get charged for a new unit.
Reception problems in the bad weather ? get used to it ! Nothing they can, or will do, but it often occurs to me why my satellite radio never goes out in inclement weather...
So, despite knowing from experience how horrid Comcast is, soon I will have to go back to them.. seems to be the less of the evils..No contract.. I hope !

Being overcharged
On April 27 2010 I telephoned Direct Tv informing them of an address change on May 1 and to increase the number of receivers on my account from 3 to 5. They are now billing me from April 27 for such. I called customer service enquiring as to why this is so since I already know that they run ads on various channels saying this service is free when relocating. They are now telling me that because my bill was overdue at the time I was not qualified for the free service, however I was not told this at the time of my conversation on April 27 or certainly I would have paid my bill to avoid paying $69.00 for this upgrade. They refuse to credit my account saying it is documented that I was informed and I accepted. I really do not remember that but it is standard operating procedure for them to put notes on whenever transactions are done so whether or not they told me they would actually say they did. I asked for them to replay the tape proving I was wrong but it seemed the supervisor was in a rush to go somewhere. I am still without the expected result of that fee waving after being a customer for almost more than 3 years .

I HATE DIRECT TV!!!!!!!!!!!
All I can say is that I hate Direct TV. There is so much wrong with them that it would take me years to describe everything. What I an tell you is that I have been a customer since 2004 and I am constantly getting treated so rudely that I cannot stand to call them with any type of problem. I have heard that Dish Network is just as bad so if you want television you have to put up with bull crap.

Plain and simple they are thieves and awefull service. After they get you to commit to contract they charge for every little thing. It is too long to get into it but TRUST ME I wouldn't ever order DIRECTV again even if I was a millionare. That is why they have to get you to commit for 2 years. PEOPLE BEWARE of DIRECTV

Overall poor service, poor quality, condesending CRS's
We are all lemmings. These companies charge fees for everything: Franchise fees, rental fees for modems, receivers, remotes, fees for protection if something goes wrong, installation fees, disconnection fee, late service fee, fees for the fees, line fee, connection fee, digital fee and so on. None of the TV service providers are up straight about the real cost of receiving this service and yet the bill keeps going up. Once my folks are gone, I'm getting rid of the TV, I don't need anything but the basics to keep me abreast of the news. I believe that Direct TV is certainly not worth it, nor is Comcast. I'm tired of getting nickel and dimed to death and pulled around like a bull with a nose ring.

We are very unhappy with paying $351.03 for nothing
Before ordering Direct TV satellite television, we were assured, upon questioning, that we would be able to use our television using only one remote. After installation we determined that in order to use the television, we had to use 2 remotes. We asked Direct TV to rectify the problem which they attempted but were not able to do. Since this was a breach of contract, we packed up the system and returned it to Direct TV, thinking that this was the end-of-story. Direct TV then sent us a bill for #351.03. We wrote a letter to them explaining the situation. Our next communication with them was a letter from a collection agency demanding payment. Since we value our very high credit rating, we paid the amount, but we are very unhappy with paying $351.03 for nothing!
