Direct TV misleads deliberately, website and customer service runaround
Direct TV misleads people with their website etc. I had it installed under the impression that I would receive local channels also, only to find out that if I sign a special waiver and pay more fees I can get New York or LA local programming. I guess when they say "local" they don't mean MY local, only "someones" local. Now they want me to pay $480 in early cancellation fees. I have had the service for two months, have been given the runaround by recordings and endless loops on the website, finally got ahold of a human and told them today I want rid of it. What a farce! They even informed me that I had to "buy" any extra receiver after the fourth one, so I did for $60, today they told me that was just a "lease" fee and I did not actually purchase the receiver. I don't want it, have no use for it, but that is just another example of the thinly veiled lies that I was suckered into believing. Never again.

Fraudulent Withdrawal
We had been in a dispute with DirectTV over the amount owed. We received a bill for $397 which we did not agree to. They gave us an early termination fee although we had been with them 4 years - they said when we went to HD it renewed the contract. Additionally, we had referred a friend and were entitled to the $100 they advertise. They said we were not qualified for that since we terminated our services. On 2/17/10 we received boxes from them to return the equipment, they were picked up by FedEx on 2/19/10. On 2/22/10 they took $628 from our account, which was not authorized. It included $239 for equipment not received. We got ahold of FedEx and after tracking found out the equipment was delivered on 2/24/10. We called DirectTV and they said we were entitled to $239 and we would receive it in 6-8 weeks. They should not be allowed to do this!!

Direct TV Stole $200 - Don't Fall For It
Direct TV is a scam. They will lie and steal from you whenever they can. I signed up for Direct TV in Nov 2008 and had to pay a $200 deposit. Now, after paying on time and in full the last 16 months, the Deposit has changed to a fee. The person that tricked me into signing up said over and over that I would get all of the money back through credits on my monthly bills. This was a total lie and the recording will show it. Who in their right mind would shell out $200 just to PAY these scammers another $900 over 18 months? You're right, it doesn't compute...So they have to lie about to meet their sign-up quotas.
I've filed complaints with the FCC and BBB, but what this company needs is a Class action lawsuit. That is the only way to stop it!!
Read all of the complaints on here - I wish I had and I would have saved myself a bundle. We are real people who have been ripped off by Direct TV - STAY AS FAR AS YOU CAN AWAY FROM THIS AWFUL COMPANY!!

over charge
I was sent a flyer from direct tv, saying(please come back to us)Lock in your price for one year.Pick your package.WE chose the CHOICE EXTRA package, $34.99 for 12 months. After 12 months the price would go to reg price of $57.99 for 6months more for a total of 18 months which the contract called for. We have had two price increases in the first 10 months already. When we call and ask them about there flyer that says LOCK IN YOUR PRICE FOR ONE YEAR we are told if we dont like it than cancel. We know if we cancel we will be billed 3 or 4 hundred dollars. I still have the flyer but don't know where to go from here???

Dishonest billing and record keeping
Whatever you do, don't get direct tv, they are like cell phone companies, as soon as a tech has to come out for something or you make a change, you locked into another 2 years. not to mention any time there is any rain, wind, the dish goes out. i just lost my job and they are making me pay 480.00 to get out of the contract. what kind of company in this economy would do that to someone. it might as well be a million dollars. i am trying to fight this, but it would have been so much better if i stuck with cable. you are not sucked into any contract. really get all the info before you lock in. my husband loves the phillies games and we can't get them on direct tv. they don't tell you a lot. i am going to the better business bureau and reporting them.

Customer service when you call is rude for one and the things they say or tell you is all lies
Direct tv customer service sucks. my only regret is there was no one to warn me about this company. so here is my warning to all that is thinking about joining direct tv. the customer service when you call is rude for one and the things they say or tell you is all lies, because when you recieve the bill it's something different. this company purposely directs your calls out of state so they don't have to deal with you locally. I'm never going to continue with this company ever agian. For all you people that isn't believers try it out. one last advise "I Told You So."

Cancellation Fees
I contacted DirectTV to cancel my services due to a switch to Verizon Fios. DirectTV refuses to waive a $180 cancellation fee after being a loyal customer for 7 years. They also charged me $75 for a month of satellite service I never received. DirectTV states we upgraded to a HD receiver in 12/09 and state that we are obligated for another year's service due to the upgrade, which equals $20/month for the next 9 months. Additionally, we bundled services through Verizon & Direct TV, but neither will take responsibility. Verizon quotes a $179 cancellation fee for their services, no matter how many services you cancel. Customer service at DirectTV and Verizon sucks!

lied to twice by Direct TV

charges
I signed up in sept for a 24.95 special, ( i'm on a fixed income) about 1 month later, I was called about the NFL Sunday sports package, I told her I don't watch sports and she it didn't matter I would save another $2.oo a month if I took the special. I asked her twice my payment is only 24.95 or you sure it will drop to $22.95 for 5 months, she said yes just to cancel it at the end of 5 months, Well instead of going down it went up to 39.95 a month, I called and was told they couldn't do anything because the NFL package could not be canceled, I paid the 39.95 the last four monthes even though it meant less propane and food each month. Today I got a bill for $68.44 I called and was told if I try to cancel now my bill will go up even more, I have to wait and cancel on March 17th, It has to be that day. I think it is terribe the way DIRECT TV gouges it customers, I rarely watch anything for the local chanels, but you can't even get them for free anymore.
