lies about contract
I signed up with direct tv 11/7/09.They told me it would be $29.99 a month and my bill is $55.99. They wont fix it or make it right. They told me I had to send in a rebate form I wasn't aware of and I had to pay the 55 until they recieved the form. Very very poor customer service. I would never get service with them again. And to cancel is 480 some odd dollars! That is only one of the problems with them.

Bad customer satisfaction
I got satelite service because I saw the commercials and I thought I could save some money but I was wrong from the begining everything was wrong.

I ask for a DVR box i did not get it plus I got the same channels that I got with Comcast and I was paying $ 80.91 dollars a month with Comcast I was paying the same but with INTERNET, I called Direct TV to see how they can help me in times like this people is trying to save money not spent more money well they could not help me thanks to the poor CUSTOMER SERVICE and they told me if I cancel the contract I have to pay $ 565.00 dollars just for trying to get the service I wanted in other words I end up paying more when I was trying to save money.

If I have something good about DIRECT TV will be that they are good taking people's money.

Fraudulent charges
In November of 2008 my husband called Direct Tv and asked questions regarding a flier we received stated 34.99 per month free installation, dvr and four rooms. We had Dishnetwork for 7 years and wanted to the four room upgrade with dvr. With dishnetork we had a bundle package with our phone and we asked if it was available and they said yes. We gave our phone information and it was told to us yes it would be set up and it would give us a discount for the bundle. They took credit card info to secure the order and was told that we would not be billed on the credit card. We asked out total with fees and all it would come to around 56.00. They set up date for install in December. They came installed and 4 days later we got a charge on the credit card (not givin premission) for almost 80.00. When called very angry I asked 1. why it wasn't bundled with phone they asked me my phone info and we were told that they don't do business with our company. funny we were quoted that they do. (lie one) Than asked why it wasn't 56.00 they said that was with the 4 rooms price. When we were quoted with the 4 rooms. But we can't arue with them. I asked if could cancel and they a number to call in our area to find out the laws. I did and they said we had 7 days. Ok so i called to cancel they said we had to pay 500 dollars there is no cancelling allowed. Angry talked to supervisor he decided to give us one more free dvr with free installation. They came put it in charged our credit card again with 200.00. Called complained they said nothing was in writing(lie number i think now 3.) Talked to cancelation department they said you could cancel in 7 days from the day you ordered it. Funny you don't realize you are being screwed till it is installed 25 days after you order and after first bill. Nice company to deal with. Anyways they did credit account but today i found out that 56.00 bill is now 98.26. Granted we did get the extra reciever but im a little confused as to how one receiver adds 42.00. Anyone thinking of joining direct tv DONT Dishnetwork is much better. Even now the quality of the tv sucks. It skips all the time. If i could cancel and not be billed I would.

Unsatifactory service
I decided to switch form cable to Direct TV because of a "better deal". Big mistake. Although cable is a pain, Direct TV is worse. The contract requires a 2 year commitment or a $20 per month cancellation fee for every month short of the 2 year contract. You are billed 1 month in advance. Every TV must have a receiver (@ $5 a tv). The DVR is not nearly as convienent as the cables. The cable DVR would buffer the last 2 channels automatically while the Direct TV will record 2 but only if you tell it. Sure there are a lot of channels but a great majority are infomercials. With cable I was receiving 6-8 HD channnels out of Cleveland. With Direct TV only a few HD are included in the basic package. Long story short when my contract is up I will switch back to cable & accept what I ahve.

Wrong Information
I called several times to get information about Direct TV. First I was told there was no cable in my area (then later found out there is). I was told it would be installed within 1-3 days (when I actually scheduled, I was told the earliest appointment was in 7 days). It took the installer 7 hours to set up 5 TVs and all of the lines were already in the house and outlets were on the walls. I was told that local channels would be included. When we began using the service that evening, we couldn't find ABC, CBS, NBC or FOX. When I called to ask how to find them, I was told that you have to ask to have local channels included. They looked up my zip code and said there were no local channels in my area, and the only option was to request a waiver and if approved I could get them in 45 days. It would be an additional charge of $2.50 per month per channel. I told them I'd discuss with my husband. When I called back to cancel, I was then told that you can get local channels through an antenna and converter box (an option not previously given to me). I cancelled the service and was told how to mail the equipment back. When I asked about the dish I was told that I owned it and that they wouldn't remove it. I asked how I could own it when I hadn't paid anything for it. They just kept repeating the same thing, "It's Direct TV's policy that we don't remove the dish." I spoke to a supervisor who told me they would come out and remove it for a service charge of $50. Beware when you talk with their representatives--they will tell you whatever they think you want to hear!

Rip off
I am a disabled senior citizen and I moved to an area that Direct tv does not service.so a week after I moved they took $313.94 from my checking acct.saying I would still have to pay the mo.charge for 18 mos.even though I will not be using the service.I never signed anything agreeing to this, and they sent a form in the bill explaining this and I did not sign to agree.I called them and talked to a supervisor named John employee #1002 and he tried to tell me why they charged for something I cannot use. This is against the law!!! Some how this is illegal and how can this company make you pay for a service you can't use??? I will dispute this and sue them.Meanwhile do not sign up with Direct tv, they will rip you off.

Appointment
I called on Thusday 11/5/09 and set up an appointment to have the system checked. Friday 11/6/09 the technician called about 6:00pm to confiirm appointment for Satuday 11/7. 20 minutes later a computer calls confirming an appointment for Sunday. Somehow in 20 minutes the company just arbitraily decided to move my appointment 24 hours later without notifying me in any way, shape or form. Then when I talk to a supervisor she gave some ass-in-nine excuse that that was the date that was originally set up. So in actuality she was calling me a liar as well. This company cannot be trusted and their customer service attitude sucks. I DO NOT recommend them for anything. Further when we have lightning in the area we can loose satellite TV for up to an hour and they bloame it on mother nature and refuse to credit my account for lack of service. Now is this piss poor attitude or what?

Buyer beware
I signed up on one of their promotional letters of Order Direct TV & get all this: $34.99 mo. for 12 months (The Choice Extra Package), FREE Professional installation -yea holes in your roof after being explicitly told to install in a specific location-front on the house-the installation includedin up to 4 rooms-at an additional charge of $4.99 ea. per month-3 receivers an addit'l $14.97 per month-Free HDR receiver upgrade-notice the small print "with activation of the Choice XTRA progamming or higher" which I had no problem with since I like those channels-but always read their small print!!!

Where my problem began is with the fact that you have to file a rebate to get this pricing-which I did online & called evey month to find out why I was over billed & the list goes on & on-never to get the rebate after hours of calling & passed from one computer to the next-I have quit my service as of this date & will see what will happen next. They are well known even by my bank for over billing problems!!! BUYER BEWARE!!!
